🏏 Aside from the Junior Cricket night on Friday, it was a Bank Holiday Weekend to forget for the All Connected Plumbing North Cave Coal Exporters. Some would think it's sour grapes waiting until Friday to post our recap from the weekend given our results, but our social media has only just recovered from running 14 hours in a race on Saturday, a time which was longer than all 3 Coalies matches combined over the weekend!
Things started terribly a couple of weeks ago with Hull City reaching the play-off final, a travesty for all involved meaning sadly our 2nd XI fixture was conceded due to unavailability.
But our firsts piled into the fun bus over to Osbaldwick, taking on their 1st XI. After being put into bat only Jaison Mathew and Ted Burrell made any kind of contribution, with 8 of the 11 players falling for 0 or 1. Not ideal as Osbaldwick chased the target of 87 for victory with little fuss for the loss of no wicket. It was time for pints and play-off final action.
On the Bank Holiday Monday we hosted nearby Drax who also won the toss and put us into bat. Our batting line-up was just as fragile this time around, with Dave Barker being the only batter to make double-figures as we were skittled for 67. A nice classy cameo from Alex Chapple is always a delight to witness, as was the Ethan Steel first-baller that he inexplicably slapped to cover. This time we did manage to get a couple of breakthrough's in response but lost out by 8 wickets to remain winless.
It wasn't a lovely day out at the seaside for our 2nd XI either, who elected to bat on a good scoring ground and quick outfield. 6 batters got into double-figures, or what could be classed as starts but all failed to kick on as we were all out for 95. The Hornsea lads fancied catching the last of the rays down at the beach it seemed, as they knocked off the runs needed for victory in 17.1 overs without loss.
A Eurovision nil points out of 4 fixtures last weekend and just 2 wickets for our bowlers. We go again this weekend!
