👏👏👏👏 great sportsmanship
⚫️⚪️ Bronte Barbarians 8 - Normanton Knight 22🔴⚫️
The local derby attracted a fantastic crowd as both teams battled through a fiercely contested semi-final. Neither side gave an inch, with big tackles and powerful carries throughout.
Bronte struck first through an excellent kick chase from Mckenzie Grayson, whose determination earned the opening try. Unfortunately, Mckenzie suffered a serious injury while scoring and was unable to continue. Mckenzie is proudly sponsored by The Big Paws Little Paws Co.
Errors and penalties then allowed Normanton back into the contest, and they eventually levelled the scores. Despite Bronte’s efforts, handling mistakes and repeated penalties handed Normanton valuable field position. Just before half-time, Normanton crossed again, while Bronte also lost their co-captain to a yellow card for dissent.
Bronte started the second half positively despite being down to 12 men. Normanton were soon reduced to 12 following a yellow card for a dangerous lift, before Normanton also received a yellow card for dangerous contact. Emotions ran high, with several players sent to the sin bin during the derby.
Bronte gained momentum through the middle, led by outstanding carries from the forward pack. Thomas Mist impressed throughout and was well supported by Rylee Wilks and Harrison Tonks, with all three working tirelessly.
Harrison Tonks crossed on the left edge to cut the deficit to two scores and keep Bronte in the contest.
However, Normanton, leaders of Division 2, showed why they sit top of the table. They regrouped, controlled the closing stages, and secured a 22-8 victory to book their place in the final.
Coaches Tony and Jack were full of praise for their players after the game.
"Many of these lads are mates off the field, and games like these create memories, rivalries and bragging rights that will last for years. Credit to Normanton – they did the basics better than us and took their opportunities when they came."
Our thoughts are with Macka following his fractured hip injury. Everyone at the club wishes him a full and speedy recovery.
A huge thank you to all the supporters who turned out and created a fantastic atmosphere.
Finally, we wish Normanton the very best of luck in the final.
