“From Your Front Door” is new series of posts where we’ll look at the joys of walking from the humbler landscapes accessible from our front door. The mountains and moorlands link us to nature in the wildest places but connecting through the ‘unremarkable’ can be equally enlivening when we remove the assumption that one is spectacular and other isn’t.
Writer and Explorer, Francis Sanzaro, puts it like this: “My strolls taught me that walking truly is a discipline and an art. The discipline of removing assumption — thinking that something is going to be beautiful does as much damage to a place as thinking it will be ugly”
We should leverage the gift of walking to stop thinking and pay attention to the stuff of the place, in other words, the place itself.
