🥎🔥 MATCH DAY RESULT 🔥🥎
Phoenix welcomed the Aces to an overcast Roughfort for the Newtownabbey side's last league game of the year. After witnessing Neptunes win over the Barracudas at 1pm on the home field - Phoenix were fired up for 3pm kick off.
It looked like Phoenix were off to an epic start as first to bat Robert, walloped in a mighty home run! Despite Robert beginning the game like a bat out of hell the Aces decided to turn up the volume, clearly determined to reverse the result of the last meeting!
The Aces defence was impressive on Sunday, with some great catches and a well executed double play. Pitcher Brendan kept the batters guessing and accurate catches in the outfield unfortunately meant the usual power hitters of Phoenix were on the back foot.
Phoenix managed to add to the score board again in the 4th inning including a big boost from shortstop James, with a 2 RBI home run!👏
Despite the home team being put through its paces, in true Phoenix style no one gave up and the team kept battling right through to the final out - exactly the attitude you’d expect from the home team 🔥
The Aces had one of those days where pretty much everything seemed to fall their way. Big hits, aggressive running and impressive communication kept the pressure on Phoenix. Eventually the Aces lead became too much to overcome and the game finished in the 5th with a 22-4 win to the Belfast side.
Credit where it’s due, the Aces played some excellent softball on Sunday and earned their win.
Even though it wasn’t the way Phoenix wanted to end their season, there are still so many amazing achievements secured by the NSC powerhouse this year. It is the first time in a very long time that a promoted team has managed to stay in the top division for longer than one season. The team was only formed in October 2022 and officially joined Softball Ulster for the 2023 season. Since their inception Phoenix have come up through the ranks, including a clean sweep in div B last season. Phoenix had one goal this season and that was to win at least one division A match. They have absolutely smashed their goal and some, by winning 4 games, securing another season in division A- Congratulations team! 🔥🎉🧡🖤
Phoenix end this season reflecting on their achievements, nursing their battered and bruised bodies and look forward to playing in the NSC combo team at the EOS blitz. To everyone who's supported the team this year, the game umpires (volunteers we see you!), the Softball Ulster committee (up the volunteers! woop woop!) and to our fellow SU clubs and teams - Thank You - We have had an absolute BLAST!! 🥳❤️🔥
