General Election
On behalf of the Parish Council, I wish to congratulate Richard Foord on becoming our new local Member of Parliament. We look forward to working with him on matters that affect the Parish.

MUGA ( Multi Use Games Area)
This wonderful Community facility has been put to good use by Parishioners & visitors as well as by football teams and children from the local primary school. Volunteers of the MUGA working party oversee the opening/closing of the MUGA as well as to the cleaning of the pitch.
They would welcome more volunteers to help. For further information please contact Mark Burdus on 07533776698
A Fundraising Family all day event is being planned for Saturday 21st September to provide funds to buy floodlights which will be free to use by Parishioners in the winter. More details will follow.

Fireworks
This very popular local is scheduled for Friday 8th November. The Parish Council giving, for this year only, free tickets for children wishing to attend the event.
Further details to follow over the coming months, but again, volunteers will be needed nearer the time to help make this a successful & enjoyable evening.

Travellers
Unfortunately, we had another attempted incursion within the village by Travellers, which, with the aid of the Police and Clinton Devon Estates was thwarted.
The preventative measures and signage which were erected throughout Newton Poppleford deterred them from attempting to enter Parish Council property, but they did try to enter adjoining privately owned land through a field gate which was subsequently blocked by large hay bales!

Newton Poppleford Playing Field Foundation (NPPFF)
As Lady Chair of the NPPFF Trustee Board I nominated it for the Devon Football Association’s “Community Facility of the Year” Award in respect of the Pavilion, which, in conjunction with the Community Café, provides facilities and support to footballers, families, and visitors alike.

The NPPFF were shortlisted, and I was invited to attend their award evening and took along as my guest, Cllr Makala Tillotson whose brainchild was to start the Community Café - and we won!

Many congratulations to everyone involved in the running of the Pavilion and especially to the volunteers of the Community Café who have donated over £8,500 to local projects, including repairs to the War Memorial, 2 new doors for the Pavilion, the rebuild of Venn Ottery Bridge, Barbara’s bench and the purchase of 2 full sets of kits for some of the girl football teams.
Yet again, I would ask if there is anyone in the Parish who would like to help this small band of volunteers that they contact Makala on 07900780656 or just go along on a Saturday morning.

Finally, on the subject of football may I, on behalf of us all, congratulate the English Squad on their achievements in the UEFA Europe 2024 – I know that that it will inspire may local children.

The Community Cafe will be open too!
