This is Yuki.

Yuki has been part of The Lodge for a few years now, regularly seen at Skate Night and Ladies Night, and she’s one of those people who seems to be killing it every time we see her.

She’s also become a brilliant part of the community. She’s been helping out with coaching as part of her DofE, encouraging other riders and giving back to the place she spends so much time riding.

And she’s been having a pretty rad year on the board too.

She recently got hooked up with New Balance, she smashed all the local skatepark jams, then travelled further afield and had a great time at Escapism, held at Flo Skatepark over the bank holiday weekend. She then went on to conquer the realm as she was crowned Queen of the Dean. Ain't nothing meaner than the Deaner, IYKYK.

And then this last weekend, she took 3rd place at the UK National Championships.

Not bad at all, while the results and achievments are awesome, that’s not really why Yuki is our Community Spotlight.

It’s the progression, the commitment, the encouragement she gives others and the fact that she’s a proper part of The Lodge community.

We’re super stoked to see how far she’s come and we can’t wait to see what comes next.

Congratulations Yuki!

Know someone who deserves a future Community Spotlight? Drop us a message and tell us why.

Today is World Su***de Prevention Day.

It's a subject that matters to us, and one that matters to skateboarding.

The Ben Raemers Foundation does some brilliant work supporting mental health and su***de prevention within the skateboarding community. If you don't know their work, they're well worth a look. https://thebenraemersfoundation.com

This one is a little personal too.

There was a time in my own life when things got pretty dark. Before I understood myself properly, I reached a point where I genuinely thought that not being here anymore might be easier than continuing to deal with everything.

Volunteering at The Lodge became one of the things that helped change that.

Not because skateboarding magically fixes everything. It doesn't.

But having somewhere to go. People to talk to. Something to focus on. Somewhere you can be yourself, have a laugh, learn something, fall off a skateboard and get back up again.

That stuff matters.

So if you're having a difficult time, whether you're a regular at The Lodge or you've never been through our doors before, please know that you're welcome here.
You can come and skate.
You can hang out.
You can chat.
You can sit quietly.
You can laugh at your mates falling over.
You can just be around people.
You don't have to explain yourself, and you don't have to have everything figured out.
You are not alone.

We're not mental health professionals, and The Lodge isn't a replacement for professional support. But we are a community, and sometimes having somewhere you feel accepted can be a pretty important place to start.

If you or someone you know is struggling, please reach out to someone. Samaritans are available free, 24 hours a day, on 116 123. If you're in immediate danger, call 999 or go to A&E.

And we'll have more to say about this.

We're working towards a regular monthly session focused on mental wellbeing, a place to skate, talk, listen and connect. More on that when we're ready.
For today, though, just check in on someone.
A message. A coffee. A skate. A conversation.

Sometimes it's the little things that matter.

We get asked this quite a lot, so here's the answer.

Booking online helps us plan sessions, manage attendance and make sure everyone has a space to ride.

It also means less time spent on admin and more time spent running the skatepark.

As a charity, booking figures also help us understand which sessions are needed most, plan volunteer cover and demonstrate the impact of the skatepark when applying for funding.

The booking system is always up to date, so if a session is available online, there is space available.

No need to message us and ask if we're open.
No need to check if there's room.
No need to reserve a place.

If you can book it, you can come.

Well… that summer went quickly.

After weeks of sunshine, we're finally getting a bit of proper September weather, just in time for everyone to get back into their usual routines.

The good news? The ramps don't care what the weather's doing outside.

Dry, ready to ride, and waiting for you whether you're getting back on your board after the summer or keeping the momentum going.

See you at The Lodge this week?
