π Men's Club Championship β Round One
With the sun shining and the course presented in superb condition by the greenkeeping team, the stage was perfectly set for the opening round of the 2026 Stover Men's Club Championship.
Among the early starters, Gary Lynch set the initial targets in both competitions, posting an excellent gross 77 and nett 69 to take the early clubhouse lead.
Hayden Priscott soon moved to the top of the scratch leaderboard with a fine gross 76, before young Toby Wotton produced a superb round of gross 82, nett 66, highlighted by a huge birdie putt on the 18th green to set the pace in the nett competition.
The afternoon saw further movement at the top as Craig Lamble carded a superb level-par 72 to take command of the gross event, while Toby retained the clubhouse nett lead on countback.
Devon County Champion Archie Christophers, despite battling some health issues, demonstrated his class with a solid gross 74 to keep himself firmly in contention heading into the final round.
However, the performance of the day belonged to the penultimate group. In-form Mike Copperwhite produced a truly remarkable gross 68, four under par, setting a new Black Tee Course Record in the process. An outstanding achievement in championship conditions and against such a strong field.
Mike's exceptional round gives him a four-shot overnight lead in the Gross Championship, while Toby Wotton heads the Nett Championship after Round One.
Congratulations to both players on leading their respective competitions, and best of luck to all competitors for tomorrow's final round. β³
