πŸŒ… Championship Sunday at Stover

These photos were taken early this morning as Head Greenkeeper Jason Brooks and the greenkeeping team made the final preparations for the second round of the 2026 Men's Club Championship.

The course is looking magnificent and provides a fitting stage for the club's premier Men’s event.

A huge thank you to Jason and the team for all their hard work throughout the year.

Best of luck to all competitors today. We look forward to finding out who will be crowned Club Champions later this evening. πŸ†β›³

πŸ† Men's Club Championship – Round One

With the sun shining and the course presented in superb condition by the greenkeeping team, the stage was perfectly set for the opening round of the 2026 Stover Men's Club Championship.

Among the early starters, Gary Lynch set the initial targets in both competitions, posting an excellent gross 77 and nett 69 to take the early clubhouse lead.

Hayden Priscott soon moved to the top of the scratch leaderboard with a fine gross 76, before young Toby Wotton produced a superb round of gross 82, nett 66, highlighted by a huge birdie putt on the 18th green to set the pace in the nett competition.

The afternoon saw further movement at the top as Craig Lamble carded a superb level-par 72 to take command of the gross event, while Toby retained the clubhouse nett lead on countback.

Devon County Champion Archie Christophers, despite battling some health issues, demonstrated his class with a solid gross 74 to keep himself firmly in contention heading into the final round.

However, the performance of the day belonged to the penultimate group. In-form Mike Copperwhite produced a truly remarkable gross 68, four under par, setting a new Black Tee Course Record in the process. An outstanding achievement in championship conditions and against such a strong field.

Mike's exceptional round gives him a four-shot overnight lead in the Gross Championship, while Toby Wotton heads the Nett Championship after Round One.
Congratulations to both players on leading their respective competitions, and best of luck to all competitors for tomorrow's final round. β›³

πŸ† Dermid McDonald Cup 2026

Richard Such proved he is just as dangerous in strokeplay as he is in matchplay by claiming the 2026 Dermid McDonald Cup with an excellent 43-point haul.

The 2025 Kerswell Matchplay Champion was one of the early starters and set the clubhouse target that nobody could catch. His round was capped in style with a birdie at the final hole to secure victory by a single point.

Just one shot behind in tied second place were Steve Clarke and Rob Phillips on 42 points. Steve produced a remarkable 21-point back nine charge, while Rob's excellent round was enough to secure Division One honours.

With 154 competitors taking part and 10 players sharing the twos pot, it was another superbly supported day at Stover Golf Club.

Congratulations Richard and well played to everyone who took part. πŸ‘πŸ†β›³οΏΌ

⚽️ THOMAS TUCHEL HAS TO PICK HIS ENGLAND XI...
..but is that really harder than picking an all-time Stover XI? πŸ€”

With all eyes on the England starting lineup tomorrow, we asked former Chairman Richard Pascoe to take on an almost impossible task – selecting his Stover Golf Club All-Time XI.

After several decades around the club, Richard admitted it was no easy challenge:

"Here's my best shot..."

before later adding:

"And many more I've forgotten!"

His final selection features players spanning generations of Stover history, including men and women who have represented the club with distinction over many years.

Richard's captain is Jason Hampton, explaining:

"Hampo has been Devon Captain – so that fits."

Now over to you...

πŸ‘‡ Who was unlucky to miss out of Richards XI? Who makes your Stover All-Time XI?

Be great to hear your selections, memories and debates in the comments.

Could Your Golf Clubs Be Costing You Shots?

Many golfers spend years working on their swing...

Yet never stop to ask whether their equipment actually suits them.

The wrong shaft, incorrect lie angle or poorly fitted driver can make the game far harder than it needs to be.

A custom fitting isn't about buying new clubs for the sake of it. It's about making sure the clubs in your bag help you get the most from your swing.

At Stover Golf Club, our fitting days bring manufacturer fitting specialists directly to the club, complete with the latest launch monitor technology, fitting equipment and extensive club and shaft options. It's an opportunity to work with the experts who know their products best and find the setup that suits your game.

Churston 1 – 6 Stover

Stover travelled to Churston on Saturday to face the reigning SDL champions and produced a strong team performance to secure a 6-1 victory.

The team settled quickly and put themselves in a good position early in the day, with the momentum continuing throughout the afternoon.

Thank you to Churston Golf Club and captain Ross Millar for their hospitality and for another enjoyable day of competitive SDL golf.

A special thank you must also go to the fantastic group of Stover supporters who made the trip. The turnout and encouragement throughout the day were greatly appreciated by the players and helped create a brilliant atmosphere.

Congratulations to all 14 players who represented the club so well.

Thank you, as always, to our team sponsors Castle Hill Insolvency for their continued support.

The result leaves Stover well placed heading into the return fixture, with Churston making the trip to Stover on 27th June. πŸ’™β›³

πŸŒ… Early Bird Stableford

Some stunning scenes greeted competitors this morning as Stover's annual Early Bird Stableford got underway.

With mist rising from the lake, geese on the water and the first rays of sunshine breaking across the course, it was a reminder of why early starts can sometimes be worth it!

Good luck to everyone taking part and thank you to our Club Professional Andy Fox for capturing these fantastic images. β›³

πŸ† Senior Club Championships 2026 πŸ†

The Senior Club Championships are always one of the most eagerly anticipated events in the Stover golfing calendar.

With the course presented in outstanding condition by the greenkeeping team and a strong field assembled, the stage was set for a day of competitive golf. As always, the event was fiercely contested.

In the Handicap Championship, Alan Gill playing off a handicap of 14, produced a superb round of nett 69 to claim the title. A crucial moment came at the par-3 15th where Alan carded a brilliant birdie 2, a score that ultimately proved decisive. The margins could hardly have been tighter, with no fewer than six players finishing just one shot behind on nett 70, underlining just how competitive the championship was.

The Gross Championship saw Danny Greenberry make a flying start, picking up two birdies in his opening five holes and never really looking back. A composed and consistent performance saw Danny post an excellent gross 75, securing the title by three shots from Stover Captain Neil Goddard.

Congratulations to both Alan and Danny on their victories, and to all competitors who took part in another memorable Senior Club Championship. β›³πŸ†

As Stover's Junior Captain for 2026, Brook-Tyler is now turning his attention to fundraising with a Charity Bingo Night in support of Children's Hospice South West – Little Bridge House.
