🍂 The autumn friction on Dartmoor is absolutely prime right now, but the outdoor window is rapidly closing.

​Before the winter damp sets in and the Tors get greasy, we are in the golden few weeks of the 2026 season. Crisp air, dry rock, and perfect conditions for pushing your grade or learning new systems.

​I have just a handful of Saturday and Sunday dates left in the diary between now and late October. Once they are gone, my outdoor diary is officially closed until spring.

​Whether you want to:

To all the aspiring influencers currently in my inbox:

​I am incredibly flattered by the interest in Climb Devon, truly. But unfortunately, my mortgage and my local petrol station still do not accept "exposure" or "story shoutouts" as a valid form of payment.

​Because of this, I do not offer free climbing sessions.

​However, I am a reasonable man. I am fully open to bringing back the traditional barter system. I will happily exchange a premium, guided rock climbing day on the Dartmoor granite for any of the following items or services:

· ​A 1967 Ford Mustang (I am willing to be flexible on the paint color). I'd exchange this for regular weekend lessons for a year.

· ​A full exterior re-render of my house for an exchange of days equal to the cost of service.

​A complete rebuild of my garden decking (must be structurally sound enough to hold a very senior, very good dog). For an exchange of days equal to the cost of service.

​A pristine, hardcover copy of Jeff Lemire's The Underwater Welder.

​Comprehensive woodworking lessons.

​Automotive technical training (specifically, the kind of training that might finally help me decipher the dark magic of a 2006 Renault Clio's clutch system).

What a brilliant morning out at The Dewerstone! 🧗‍♀️☀️

​I had an absolute blast taking Frankie and her crew out for a private half-day session today. This group brought a fantastic mix of indoor leading and bouldering experience, so the main goal for the morning was translating those skills onto real outdoor granite and looking closely at how to safely set up top ropes.

​Everyone completely smashed it. They were safe, attentive, and climbed brilliantly!

It’s been a minute since I’ve been on here, but it’s been incredibly busy out on the rock! 🧗‍♂️

​A couple of weeks ago, I had the pleasure of taking Mark and Adam out for a comprehensive two-day trad climbing refresher. The goal was to shake off the rust, get them fully dialed back into placing gear, and refine their anchor building.

​Day 1: Hound Tor. There is no better place to get reacquainted with the sharp end. We got hands straight back onto classic Dartmoor granite and ran through the absolute fundamentals of gear placement, equalizing anchors, and rope management.

​Day 2: The Dewerstone. Time to step it up and put it all into practice! We focused on smooth climbing, trusting the placements, and building bomber belays high above the woodland canopy. As you can see in the photos, the guys were totally in the zone and executing their stances perfectly.

​Massive effort from both Mark and Adam over the two days. They were safe, competent, and climbing exceptionally well.
