Fancy giving Rugby League a go? Or maybe you're looking to get back into it? Devon Sharks are training this Friday night from 6.30pm down at Newton Abbot Rugby Club and we’d love to see some new faces.

We’ve got a cracking bunch of lads, a good atmosphere, and the perfect mix of fun and competitiveness as we build towards our first match of the season. Whether you’ve played Rugby League before or this would be your first time, you’ll be made to feel welcome from the moment you arrive.

There’s no pressure, just come down, get involved, and see what it’s all about. If you’ve got any questions, feel free to drop us a message — we’re happy to chat and help get you started.

Join us for our weekly training session this Friday at 7:00 PM at Newton Abbot Rugby Club. Whether you're a seasoned player or new to the game, all are welcome to get involved and enjoy the camaraderie.

Devon Sharks are back!

After taking a year out last year to reassess…..we are back!

As many know, covid like every business, sports club and family affected our club massively. We didn’t know where to go and what direction/pathway we were on. This was cemented with the fall of Tarka Storm and Saltash Essayons.

After numerous discussions we are very pleased to announce our new pathway and our new club management.

Newton Abbot Rugby Club will now be a instrumental part of the Sharks.

The Sharks now become part of the Newton Abbot club structure. Newton Abbot RFC will be able to offer rugby all through the year, becoming a hub for rugby in a key area of Devon.

We welcome Director of Rugby and Director of Business for Newton Abbot RFC, Mike Saxton .

Mike and his team at Newton have done amazing things and growth to the club. With Mike involved, he will bring in new interests, new support and partners to not only the Sharks, but the sport Rugby League.

Phil Johnson will remain the Director of Rugby for the Sharks, but will now focus on the general match day duties, fixtures and up keep of the club.

Ryan Chivers, will continue his fantastic work as Head Coach to the Club.

We are extremely excited for the new pathway we have, and cannot wait to begin.

First year plan:

To build again. The first year is all about building the club again and the players. We are hoping to play up to 5/6 fixtures plus invite a touring team down to Devon.

Second year plan:

Continue to grow the seniors and grow the fixture list. Focus on juniors in the year and bring back the yearly juniors tournament.

This is truly a new start and we cannot thank Mike and the Team for coming on board and having the plans to take the Sharks to new levels.

Think it’s time next year to have a south west rep term. We reckon there could be very good interest Teignbridge Trojans RLFC. For now though. Anyone interested, here’s the dates for west of England

WEST OF ENGLAND REQUEST PLAYERS TO EXPRESS AN INTEREST AHEAD OF SOUTHERN REGIONAL CARNIVAL - ONE WEEK TILL FIRST TRAINING SESSION

In order to qualify to represent the West region, players must qualify to represent England as this is the first rung on the ladders as part of the England Lions RL pathway. Players should be based in the West or South West and/or play for clubs from these areas and able to fully commit to the programme. Rugby League (not registered professionals) and union players will be considered.
