Good afternoon all
So last training session I discussed with the athletes who were there, what I was entitled to expect as their coach.
We had the initial “100% etc” I asked them to go away and think about what I should be able to expect from our athletes.
And I would question whether we have had it now for a long time.
So I told them last week was obviously on, and I will be there this week.
We will see what they say, what we have number wise.
But if I am not convinced of where the group is going, following on from a disappointing 2025, then this Monday will wrap up my 25+ year coaching commitment.
I am so busy now with everything that if we don’t buy in, I will unfortunately draw a close to our group.
I have enjoyed working with the group and helping our group on and off the track,
And I will miss the group, and I never ever thought I would walk away from coaching, but currently I am not making a difference on or off the track.
I hope you can appreciate where I am coming from, if I can be convinced that the group can go forward the way it should then we will talk again, I’m sorry but I question this and believe we have been a long way off.
So let’s see where we are on Monday at training.
Thanks
Jason

It felt almost like a relaunch!❤️
As I guess that’s what it was!
But actually Scott and I were chuffed to have 7 at training.
We haven’t had 7 for a long time.
Now as long as we keep numbers this high and work rate and focus at these levels, then we will do well as a group.
Well done to the 7, Byron back after 2 years!
Ben new to our group
Louis now 2 from 2
Our 2 girls back training after a break
And the brothers on the track.
Well worked everyone.
Lots of work to be done, fitness levels need some work- so let’s try and get this done.
We enjoyed that 👏👏

Well today was just the 3 ballers so I made the decision to do some baller related work.
I’ve seen so many baller coaches do some of these drills with no prompts or cues, and have no real idea of what they are trying to achieve.
All 3 of them worked their arses off, shorter rests, more explosive, good plyometric movements and change of direction accelerations,
Finishing with a core battering.
Got to be honest I really enjoyed it 👏👏💥

Good evening all
It’s been a while, I’ve still been focused on our group but have had so much else going on.
As a group we are down to 6.5 athletes now, obviously by far the smallest the group has ever been, we continue to focus on our athletes who do want to work hard and enjoy training, but I can’t lie I am smegged the group has shrunk the way it has.
We have started tweaking some of the work we are doing by finishing each session with pain and core work!
All 4 tonight gave a decent show, with Bens best session for absolutely ever 👏👏
Well done all of you.
(I am torn whether to try and grow the group or just work until we are down to not many at all?)

A few bits and pieces and pretty much all positive:
1 Byron Povey back to being what I expect and demand of him, unable to train but at training and coaching brilliantly to the 4 athletes present tonight, leading by example without being able to train, and holding down 2 jobs and a college course. Well done mate keep it up! 👏
2 The 4 training tonight had an excellent session, with only 4 and it being warmer we did crouch starts and block starts, so an opportunity to really start to coach and make a difference. Lots of work to do, but some real positive starts.
Absolute credit to the 4 who listened, focused and tried to implement the cues.
Not as many metres, but better quality.
3 My trumpet 🎺 blowing time:
Our 2 Academy boys have been told by their dads this week that their football has improved, why? Because they are moving better and faster, everything we set up to achieve, very well done boys, lots more still to do 👏👏
Quinn and Charlie top work tonight trying new things and ideas👏 working so hard.

Their homework this week and ongoing is either plank or press ups on their fingers. Plus standing long jumps as we add plyometrics.

I do have a disappointment but too many positives tonight and ready to go, the group is good to go👏👏

Wishing all our athletes and parents a very happy new year.
A special mention to my sidekick Scott for his support in 2024, for an older gentleman he really is a top chap.
2024 has had it all for the group, from the consistent trainers who have hit numbers and shown improvements and potential for 2025. Very well done to you guys, let’s really keep it up and push on, you are our focus for 2025, and the reason we made the decision to continue.
Because it was part of 2024, I can’t lie I was disappointed to lose some of the group, with a couple in particular very tough to take, and a couple of the sh*tty comments on the way out of the door, which were just embarrassingly wide of the mark.
It can never be said as a coach, as a coach only gets judged on results, look at Rooney today!
But we are confident in what we do and how we do it, that if you turn up and train @ 100% consistently, we will get the results. If we turn up to less than 50% of sessions then no coach anywhere will help you progress.
You can’t say with athletes that have left that you could have possibly helped more, as that is irrelevant.
But as young athletes and ballers you have 1 crack at this, and 1 crack only, so always give it your best shot, give it 100%.
Most senior athletes quit the sport after university, if not sooner, and senior balling is a completely different ball game!!
To the 2 athletes who are either injured or struggling to get to training, to the injured, you’re not bulletproof, so take care of yourself, and let’s make 2025 what it should be, and to the other get your arse to training or hang up your spikes!
You like another are very capable of running sub 13, and closer to 12.5 if you really put in the work??? What that would give you mentally and emotionally would be game changing for you, plus the discipline and focus required to achieve this would potentially change everything.
We all need targets for 2025, and I am happy to talk and work with anyone to help us achieve these together…
But remember it won’t work without your commitment and discipline. You decide how 2025 will look.
I also want a new group photo as the old one bears no resemblance to our group anymore…
Happy new year everyone from Scott and I ❤️

Final training session of 2024 completed, and a good way to wind up the year.
Very disappointed with a couple of the losses this year, but that is very much their loss and now Scott and I are very focused on those who very obviously want it.
We have the core 5 or 6 who have been very consistent since the changes plus the 3 we have added hopefully sets us up perfectly for 2025. We are hoping that this group of 9 will want to work hard, develop and take themselves and our group forward and upwards again towards summer season 2025.
We are completely confident that with the correct commitment and focus we can hit any realistic targets.
We are going to start 2025 with a testing session and ensure a structure to get athletic results.
Tonight’s session was a great way to sign off , set by the girls.
4 * 30
4 * 60
4 * 90
1 * 150
As we had 5 it allowed them all to race 1 rep against each other.
Some fantastic application and focus on our knee drive , and real perspiration.

Plus a reminiscence from a training session blast from the past from the original role models.

So it just leaves Scott and I to wish you all a fabulous Christmas and new year.

Well we are now back up to 10, 1 new one for their 1st session tonight, the 2nd ECFC U13, making the younger group very competitive.
2 back for their 2nd session and both settling in well.
Brad making the U20’s competitive and adding a new discipline to the group, making that group as Byron returns from injury an excellent group to develop.
And to our consistent athletes who have supported and worked hard, very well played.
And the 🍩 who said I’m an elitist well…
Good work tonight to the 10 of you in cold windy conditions.
4 * 30
30 / 50 / 90 / 110 / 90 / 50 / 30
150
They all have homework:
What is lactic acid and what causes it?
What is the 100m world record?

Finally we have said on either the 6th or 13th we will start 6 week testing so we can monitor fully development.
The 2 things being tested:
Standing long jump
60m dash ( Americans do 40 yard)

Well done 👏 👏

Another post on the South West Championships held today in Exeter. As I said same weekend as the National Championships.
So today is supposed to be the best of 9 counties?? Numbers should be high?
Yet an U15 would have got a silver medal in the senior 200m.
Huge congratulations to all those who won medals with strong times, but the turn out today has to be looked at surely? Or maybe I’m wrong like normal?
And to our athletes, look at the times?
What could have been achieved?
I don’t believe in what ifs at all, work hard and achieve what you deserve.

Well despite Nationals and South West Championships being on the same weekend, very well done to all who competed, some PB’s and some great results.
It’s the 2nd time we have focused on a particular athlete, but you can’t not…
Keeley has done it again as a year 1 U17.
Double silver medals in the 100 & 200.
I have watched her put in the extra work necessary on top of her coaches sessions to deliver this ridiculous season.
Yes she is ridiculously naturally talented, but take nothing away from her, her and her parents have worked harder than anyone, to give results in the sprints locally probably never been bettered.
Yes we have super spikes, yes the tracks are quicker, but this are fantastic times for a year 1.
Once we have finished our winter break let’s lay down some personal challenges and see what we can achieve.
This time last year I asked all my athletes to write me a couple of paragraphs on what our targets were.
Can you remember?
How did you get on with them?
Did you hit them? - fantastic if you did👏
Were they unrealistic?
Did I not help you achieve them?
Where do we go from here?

I am currently also talking to Teignmouth Rugby Club about helping a couple of their age groups develop their speed, but the athletics is what has started this, and I would like to finish it?
Who is coming with me? Who is going to put the work in? Who is bailing before we start back?
I will take any athletes of any level, what I do not want to take is an athlete who will not aim to hit their own goals and put in the necessary effort and commitment, communication and focus.
I will give you the results, that is still a promise, this will then give you so much more, on and off the track.
It’s a game changer?

Very well played Keeley👏👏👏

Athletic Football Coaching is 1 year old this week!!🎂❤️
We have had some great highs and success, some fantastic PB’s , and also some quality personal development.
We value all of this very highly, and we hope to deliver on this in year 2.
I have to be honest that we have had more negatives than we would have liked, athletes who hadn’t bought into our group and our ethos, and we lost on the way through.
Where we haven’t motivated and inspired them to buy into our group.
Injuries and motivational insecurities, but we hope that our current group continue to develop and grow as young adults.
Really well done to those who continue to work towards our end goals, and have been along for the ride.
Happy Birthday to us, and here’s to a positive year 2, and an increase in attendance and pushing.
Well played all👏👏
