โฝ๏ธ DAMOLLY LADIES MAKE THEIR MARK AT OMAGH 7s! โฝ๏ธ
The ladies headed to Omagh today for a 7-a-side tournament and what a day! ๐โฝ๏ธ๐งก
We knew going in that it was going to be a challenge, with the majority of the teams having played NIWFA League football last season. Nerves were definitely high heading into that first match, but in true Damolly style, the ladies gave it everything from the first whistle!
A fantastic midfield performance from Jenna, Emma A and Tanya created chance after chance, with some brilliant passing continually finding Laura up front. Omaghโs defence did everything they could to keep her out, but perseverance paid off and Laura eventually converted two goals to get us off to the perfect start! โฝ๏ธโฝ๏ธ
At the other end, Selina and Lisa dealt confidently with everything that came their way, while the midfield worked tirelessly to support them and help secure the clean sheet. A real team performance and exactly what Damolly is about - working for each other! ๐ช
Match two against Enniskillen brought a few changes, with Barbara coming in and, in her usual style, covering every inch of the pitch, while Chloe stepped into CDM. Emma M also came into defence, continuing that strong defensive line and helping the team secure another clean sheet. The only goal of the match came after a throw from Chloe, enabling Barbara to cross into the box for Laura to finish and make it two wins from two! ๐
Our final group match against Armagh just didnโt fall our way. An unfortunate moment around the goal put us one behind before a cracking strike sealed the win for Armagh. A couple of decisions might have gone differently on another day, but the ladies showed their grit, kept battling and played right to the final whistle.
That took us into the Cup Semi-Final against the eventual tournament winners. By then the tired legs were starting to show, but Damolly still created some great chances and never stopped competing. Unfortunately, we just couldnโt find the finish this time and our tournament came to an end.
To say weโre proud of these ladies is an understatement. ๐
They didnโt just turn up to play against established league teams: they brought the game to them, picked up two wins, reached the cup semi-final and showed exactly what this team is capable of.
And the timing couldnโt be better! This was our warm-up for the Winter 7s League running from October to February, where once again weโll be facing a mix of teams, many already competing in the NIWFA leagues.
Today showed one thing very clearlyโฆ
