Cleary Celtic U19 3–3 Rathfriland U19

A thrilling six-goal encounter saw Rathfriland U19 battle to a 3–3 draw away to Cleary Celtic in the MUYL U19 Savage Cup at the weekend.

Rathfriland made the perfect start, with Joseph Gallagher putting the visitors ahead in the 8th minute. Cleary Celtic responded with two goals before Aodhan Maginn restored Rathfriland's lead just before half-time.

The hosts levelled again in the second half before Rathfriland looked to have secured all three points when Joseph Gallagher scored his second in the 89th minute.

However, Cleary Celtic found a dramatic equaliser in the 90th minute to share the points.

A fantastic effort from the young Swifts, who showed plenty of character and attacking threat throughout a highly entertaining game. Unfortunately a draw wasn't enough and the bow out of the Savage Cup at the group stages.

Donacloney Reserves 4–3 Rathfriland Swifts

Rathfriland Rangers Swifts suffered a narrow 4–3 defeat away to Donacloney Reserves in an entertaining MUFL Reserve Division 3 encounter at The Holmes.

The Swifts found themselves 1–0 down early on but showed great character to turn the game around, with Lewis Redmond equalising in the 36th minute before John Ervine put Rathfriland ahead just two minutes later.

Donacloney levelled before half-time to leave the sides 2–2 at the break.

The home side regained the advantage early in the second half and extended their lead to 4–2, but Rathfriland refused to give up. Sean Quinn pulled a goal back in the 85th minute to set up a tense finish.

Despite pushing hard for an equaliser in the closing stages, the Swifts couldn't find the breakthrough and had to settle for a 4–3 defeat.

A disappointing result, but plenty of character and positives to take from a spirited performance.

Rathfriland Reserves 13 - 1 Lisnarick FC

Rathfriland Rangers Reserves produced a stunning performance to cruise into the next round of the fonaCAB Craig Stanfield Junior Cup with a comprehensive 13–1 victory over Lisnarick Football Club at Iveagh.

The Reserves made a flying start and never looked back, taking a 5–1 lead into half-time before continuing the scoring after the break.

Jonathan Burns led the way with five goals, while Sam McCallister added a hat-trick. Jamie Fitzpatrick, Adam Loughlin, Mark Bronte and Ryan Sloane were also on the scoresheet, with an own goal adding to the tally.

A dominant display from the Reserves, who showed excellent attacking quality and ruthlessness in front of goal to book their place in Round 2.

Thanks to Lisnarick for staying on after the game and we wish them well for the remainder of the season.

Next up is a home league fixture against Lurgan Town U23s next Saturday at 2.15pm.

Saturday’s fixtures saw plenty of goals across the Reserves, U19s and Swifts.

The Reserves ran out comprehensive winners in the Junior Cup vs Lisnarick FC to progess safely to Rd 2. Great to have the visitors stay on at the club for the afternoon and we wish them well for the rest of their season! Goal scorers were Jonny Burns (5), Sam McCallister (3), Jamie Fitzpatrick, Adam Loughlin, Ryan Sloane, Mark Bronte and OG

An entertaining game with a lively finish saw the U19s come away with a point from Cleary Celtic with goals from Aodhán Maginn and Joseph Gallagher (2).
