We are a family run traditional Shotokan Based Karate club based in the Newquay area, training both children and adults. We are not some faceless national 'chain' of Martial Arts, we have the structure and caring attitude of a family run business to help nurture our students which we hope comes through in our teaching and shows through in our students. We offer flexible options to pay to train and
you are NOT bound into any long term contracts to train with us. Flexibility is key in what we do to allow EVERYONE to train in Martial Arts at our specialist training centre which is Newquay's only dedicated Martial Arts Centre, The Dojo - Newquay. We aim to deliver structured training in the traditional art, mixed with modern training equipment and methods. We aim to teach you Karate for fitness, your well being and also cover many aspects of self protection and dare I say the buzzword ‘Self Defence’. We teach what we feel to be PRACTICAL Karate to Adults and Children to give you that full experience of what Karate can actually do for you. We are also proud to be recognised by Sport England as the ONLY Shotokan Karate club in Newquay that has attained the Safeguarding Code in Martial Arts, showing our dedication above and beyond for safeguarding ALL of our students, we have now held this prestigious title for 6 years+
As the BIGGEST Shotokan Karate Club in the area we are also the ONLY Shotokan Karate club that has provided a full time dedicated training space for our students , The Dojo - Newquay which is a fully matted full time Martial Arts space dedicated to all Martial Arts and quite unique for Newquay (none of this training in a dusty village hall to maximise profits) as all the money that comes into the club gets reinvested into the Dojo for upkeep and rental costs. There will be a lot of questions that you will have, and whilst we can answer most on the website simply contact us and we can run through any specific questions with you. We try to operate under as non-contact rules as possible for children, as we regard our responsibilities with regard to child protection to be at the core of what we do. But we do allow children to take part in sparring if you get the correct protection equipment (available through your club instructor)
All our instructors are qualified to black belt (“Dan”) grade as well as being fully insured and carried out an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check. As a family based club, Sensei Lee (4th Dan) is the instructor in the club, Jane (his lovely wife) is our administrator. We also have James Sensei (2nd Dan) and Jan Sensei (3rd Dan) that cover classes when Sensei is unavailable . Sensei Lee has been chief Instructor at the club for 15+ years and has trained extensively across the UK and in Okinawa (the birthplace of Karate). We also encourage leadership in our Juniors classes with our chosen higher graded juniors taking on the roles as JUNIOR LEADERS, helping where necessary and giving guidance to the lower grades. Based at THE DOJO - NEWQUAY on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays and exclusive AFTERSCHOOL CLUBS @ NJA on Mondays and St Columb Minor Academy on Wednesdays
