It’s been a week since Boardmasters wrapped, and we’re taking a look back at another one for the books. With more than a dozen competitors riding our boards in the LQS Longboard event, we were so proud to have such a strong crew representing, with too many great performances to mention.
The standouts were Emily Currie, who made her way through to a stacked final to finish 4th, and Adam Bearman Griffiths, who hung up the rod, picked up his Cherry Picker and put on a show for the local fans, surfing his way to a 5th place finish.

This time last week, it was so nearly three for Lukas Skinpup Skinner.

After posting the highest heat total of day one, Lukas looked like the man to beat, leading the final right up until the dying minute, when he was just pipped to the post by Sam Piter.

At the end of it all though, the talk on the beach wasn’t about disappointment. It was about the standard of surfing in that final, despite the tiny waves – and how good it was to see a local surfer right there in the mix, pushing the bar of European surfing.

This year, thanks to headline sponsor YETI Europe, the event was upgraded to a 4000 meaning Lukas walked away with his biggest result ever in terms of points, putting him in third on the Euro QS rankings.

While it would have been epic to see him take the win again, as he himself said in an interview afterwards, success in surfing is as much about consistency as it is about winning and three finals in a row certainly is that.
