Here’s an interesting article for you guys. At the moment Reformer studios are opening left right and centre. The demand for reformer teachers has exploded, leading to a demand for quick training courses to fill those studios with teachers.
Pilates teacher training should take a lot of time and effort. Hours of training, anatomy, postural analysis, observation hours, self practice, practice teaching, leading up to intensive examinations.
Quiz your teacher, they should be proud of their certifications! Where they trained, how long they have been physically teaching Pilates for. It’s expensive and time consuming and they will tell you all about it!
If they are vague about their Pilates training, tell you they’ve been teaching yoga, are a PT, movement specialist etc. be wary. It’s possible to do a fitness reformer weekend course online so they can just start teaching on reformers with no Pilates experience required.

Pilates is a complete movement system in itself, using a host of specialised apparatus that you won’t find in your local gym or yoga studio.
It’s an unregulated industry, people can injure themselves if they aren’t properly taught or trained. To stay safe I’d recommend looking at Peak, STOTT Pilates, BASI Pilates, Polestar, APPI, or Body Control Pilates.
All are big international training providers who demand high quality instructors to promote their brand.
Also have a look for CIMSPA accredited teachers holding Pilates diplomas. Their training has to meet UK educational standards.
