The fight for Whipsy continues.

Having achieved some success in the removal of obstructions from Footpath 43 and increased awareness both locally and nationally, the developer can, from the 1st September, begin to desecrate this beautiful corner of the Cornish coast again.

Since the 1st April, when the developer was obliged to stop work because of limitations within the Marine Management Organisation, the Whipsy Warriors have been busy gathering intelligence, probing defenses for weakness and exploring every possible legal avenue to get this work stopped forever. We are ready to do battle to protect Newquay 's last wild corner.

Follow for updates and how you can help save this beautiful part of from development.

The Battleground.

Not content with the closure of a section of the South West Coast Path and allowing the continued illegal obstruction of two Public Rights of Way since at least 2007, now seek to close the steps at Whipsiderry beach for between 7 and 15 months so that a developer can build "7 Luxury Holiday Homes" that only the developer wants, on a clifftop that is continually erroding.

These steps are the only safe way off the beach between mid and high tide, especially if members of the public have walked across the sand from Watergate Bay, or Porth Beach. They are not part of the cliff the developer wishes to reinforce. Once again, the rights of the public are being eroded by the very body given the duty to safeguard access rights in Cornwall.

Please consider objecting to the proposed closure of the steps by visiting
the link tree in the Save Whipsiderry Cliffs Instagram bio.

Just back from 2 days climbing down west, in support of Mike "Twid" Turner's Craic Gear climbing charity event, to raise money for the Face Facts charity, which provides facial reconstruction surgery in poorer areas of the world.

Twid is a world renowned International Mountain Guide, with many first accents to his name and is very much a climber's climber.

Plenty of folk out climbing on the Cornish cliffs, with 50+ folk at last night's lectures by Twid and Cornwall's very own offwidth specialist, Stu Bradbury.

The events take place across the country. Get involved, if you can.

A climber's rack is a very personal thing. What you carry as a leader may be dependent on budget, accessibility, location, and/or personal preference (who hasn't got a favourite piece of gear??). Here's my rack for leading folk on sub Extreme grade routes in Cornwall. It might come as a surprise to some, but a single 35m rope will cope with most routes, especially on the granite, which has many ledges that intersect the cliffs.

Forgot to add the prussiks/knife/krab, but I always carry a simple "get out of jail free" kit.

A 50m abseil/rappel line is also useful for getting into those places you can't scramble into.

Bosigran Ridge (also known as Commando Ridge) is unique and is a much sought after prize by local, and visiting, climbers alike. Never hard, occasionally awkward, it's a great adventure, which starts from the moment you leave the car park. It requires a number of skills before you actually start climbing. Just getting to the sea level start requires good route finding, abseiling and decision making.

Having taken many non-climbers on it over the past 20 years, scroll down for some tips for would-be ascentionists.

So, what's going on here, then?? Is it creating a spider's web, or producing scenarios to assist with the delivery of some training I have been asked to deliver for a specific customer?

All will be revealed soon!

Climbing doesn't have to be hard to be fun. Most of the time it's the people you're with and the surroundings that make it so. Sunny days on classic Cornish climbs are just the best.
