Newquay Hydrotherapy Centre The Newquay Hydrotherapy Centre will be providing the community with a fantastic facility to meet their needs.

The HYDY Charity was set up as a need for a hydrotherapy centre became apparent whilst working with local arthritis sufferers who have to travel 13 miles to St Austell for the nearest hydro facility. This current scheme is council operated in a leisure centre complex and has limited disabled access. Another pool is situated at Treliske Hospital, Truro and is for hospital patients only. Members of

Newquay Arthritis Care relied on the local 'Lions' minibus and volunteers to transport them to St Austell. As with all types of therapy the relief was often lost in the travelling time. HYDY Committee members have visited various hydro pools within the country to see for themselves the pros and cons of a working pool environment and to talk with their staff. A visit to the Royal National Hospital for Rheumatic Diseases in Bath was made by the Chairperson and Secretary to meet a top consultant in hydrotherapy (Helen Whitelock) who is widely acclaimed in her work. Helen Whitelock visited Newquay in 2001 and gave a talk to the committee and invited guests on the benefits of hydrotherapy in view of her support of the project. It has been an incredible journey for the Hydy Charity over 20 year, running various fundraising events to ensure they reach their goal. The Newquay Hydrotherapy Pool Charity has come a long way since its conception in 1996 and is now at the stage to celebrate the completion of their ultimate dream for the community.

It is with a great deal of sadness that I’m announcing that as of 1st September 2020 I shall be stepping away from running Newquay Hydrotherapy Centre. Under current restrictions it is impossible to safely open, and keeping customers safe has always been my highest priority.

Although the future of the hydro remains up in the air, I will endeavour to ensure that the transition is as smooth as possible.

I want to say a huge thank you to every single person that has supported and used the hydro over the last 3 1/2 years I have been running it.

I have been lucky enough to meet so many amazing and inspirational people, and I have been honoured that they have shared their stories, struggles and successes with myself. I have seen all users reap the huge benefits from the hydro, and I have been touched and elated to have witnessed the difference it has made to peoples lives.

Through working at Newquay hydro I have made many life long friends, and I also grieve the loss of some people who unfortunately lost their battles but managed to make a huge impact on my life because of the truly inspirational persons they were.

I shall be starting a new job, one which I am very excited about, and hopefully one where I can also hopefully help people.

So from the bottom of my heart, I want to say a huge thank you to you all....it’s been and honour & privilege to be able to work with you.
