So you’re in your late 30’s, 40’s, 50’s and beyond - the answer is unequivocally YES!
And here's the reason why
It’s imperative that you get someone with the following:
Training experience
Coaching experience
Life experience
Multi-sport disciplines
Has his own fitness journey
Is still investing in himself and his knowledge
When you’re middle-aged, life gets more challenging…
You’re balancing work, family, aches and pains, stress/anxiety, wear and tear, health - there’s a heck of a lot to consider when you’re embarking on a health and fitness journey.
You need a coach who’s been there themselves, been there with other clients - and got the success stories to tell.
🔹WEIGHT-TRAINING: An appropriate programme for a 25yr old - should look VERY different to an appropriate programme for a 45yr old.
Different needs, different considerations, potentially different desired outcomes.
🔹 MOBILITY/FLEXIBILITY: As you age, it’s vitally important that you consider improving your range of motion via training, and then getting strong there - to avoid things like hip/knee replacements later in life.
🔹CARDIO: There’s more to cardio than plundering a Stairmaster, there’s no point looking athletic, if you’re not actually athletic - time and attention needs to be paid to the programming here.
🔹NUTRITION: As I’ve gained experience as a coach, I see food differently. Most people view food as the enemy, whereas I use it as a vital tool in improving health, vitality and immunity.
There’s so much more to food than ‘IIFYM’ or ‘calories in v calories out’.
🔹MENTAL HEALTH: Like it or not, we all have to monitor this.
🔹LIFE: Well, as I’ve got older and wiser, I understand the need for balance… I’ve become very experienced in helping people juggle a career, training, nutrition and down time. It’s an art, and it comes with age and skin in the game!
So yes, I think if you’re 30+ and looking for a coach - you need to find someone who understands your needs first hand.
