It’s been just over a year since our very first training session—and what a journey it’s been to get to this point.
Afon Valley’s first season in the Sage & Co Newport and District League Premier X has certainly had its ups and downs. Through blood, sweat and tears, we can look back with real pride at what we’ve achieved.
There have been tough times along the way. From financial struggles to player availability, there were moments when we genuinely didn’t know if we’d make it through.
But fast forward to today, and Afon Valley has gone from strength to strength. From turning up with just 8 or 9 players in the depths of winter, to finishing the season with a full squad, a full bench, and even travelling reserves—it shows just how far we’ve come.
A massive thank you must go to our Chairman and captain, Callum, who has worked tirelessly to ensure we still have a club—one that the boys are proud to play for.
In February, James Oliver-House stepped in as coach, bringing direction and much-needed structure. During this period, performances improved, culminating in us securing our first league point.
We’d also like to thank our sponsors—Unite the Union Wales Aerospace, Thomas Carroll, TSS Balustrade, Sigma 3 Kitchens, and GP Event Technical Services. Without your crucial support, this club simply wouldn’t exist.
Finally, to all players past and present, our families and supporters, referees, ground staff, and everyone who has given their time to help the club—thank you.
