AJ's Kickboxing Academy AJ's Kickboxing Academy offers Kickboxing classes in Newport for men, women and children from the age of 5 and above Minimum age is 16. Class fees are £5.

Kuroikaze is an eclectic style, incorporating Karate kicks with Western Boxing punches. Muay Thai techniques, locks, takedowns and throws are also a feature of this style making it a complete self defence system. Classes are held at the Mardy Village Hall every Thursday evening between 7:00pm and 8:30pm except the 1st week of the month where classes are held on a Monday. Classes also run in the St

Julian's Beaufort Centre in Newport every Tuesday evening between 7:00pm and 8:00pm. Kuroikaze Martial Arts/Kickboxing was formed by Alan Morgan and Chris Morgan. Previous to this, Alan and Chris spent many years training in Modern Karate Kickboxing, formerly known as Kindai Ryu, under the guidance of Scott Carey, 5th Degree, former triple British Champion and World Title contender in both Semi-point scoring and Kickboxing formats (1987-1994) and Russell Newton, 5th Degree, who achieved double international status as a competitor in 1989/90. It was with these highly renowned and respected Gold Bar Instructors that they achieved their Degree grades. Chief Instructor, Alan (4th Degree Black Belt), has 18 years’ experience as an Instructor and has achieved Silver Badge Instructor Status with the World Kickboxing Association and is recognized as a Level 1 Instructor with the Cobra Martial Arts Association (a nationally recognised Martial Arts association to whom the club is currently affiliated). He is also a qualified ‘C’ Class referee and judge. Senior Instructor, Chris (3rd Degree Black Belt), has 14 years’ experience as an instructor. From the age of 12 to 16 he competed in Light Contact competition and then turned to Professional Full Contact Kickboxing, competing all over the country until he retired from competition in 2009. During that time he won Welsh and English Titles, held British Titles at three different weights and retired as reigning ISKA British and Commonwealth Light Middleweight Champion.

Another fantastic Instructor Training Programme session completed today

Today we focused on motivation, teamwork and member retention. Exploring how understanding both our own motivations and those of our students can help us become more effective leaders and instructors

The group took part in some great discussions around building rapport, increasing student motivation, creating positive team cultures and understanding the important role we all play in member retention

It’s always encouraging to see the level of engagement, reflection and commitment to personal development from everyone involved

The future of our Instructor Team continues to look very bright

A huge well done to this week’s Junior Stars of the Class:

Each of these students was recognised for different reasons, but they all had one thing in common… they stood out through their effort, attitude and willingness to learn

Being named Star of the Class isn’t always about being the best in the room. It’s about giving your best, showing resilience, staying focused and demonstrating the values we want to see on and off the mats

💥 What’s Possible at Just 4 Years Old? 💥

Meet Hudson and Freddie 👬

Both just 4 years old, and independently performing combinations on the heavy bags with focus, coordination and confidence

This is what can happen when young children are given the right environment, encouragement and structure to learn and grow

Martial arts at this age is about so much more than punches and kicks. It’s about developing listening skills, concentration, balance, coordination, confidence and self-belief

Many people underestimate what young children are capable of achieving, but Hudson and Freddie are proof that with consistent training and a positive attitude, amazing things can happen

KINGS OF COMBAT 2026

Saturday night didn’t go the way we had hoped as Talha lost his British title on Kings of Combat

First and foremost, congratulations to his opponent Paddy Mcauley, who performed very well on the night, executed his game plan effectively and deserved the victory

As a team, we’re always honest in both victory and defeat. Talha wasn’t at his best and didn’t produce the performance we know he’s capable of. In the days since the fight, it has become apparent that he had been carrying an injury sustained several weeks ago that was affecting him more than any of us realised at the time

This isn’t about taking anything away from his opponent or making excuses. Once you step through the ropes, both fighters have a job to do and the better man won on the night

The real measure of a martial artist isn’t how they handle success, it’s how they respond to adversity

Talha is still young, still learning and still has a huge future ahead of him. He’ll take the lessons from this experience, recover properly and come back stronger

We win together. We lose together. We learn together

A period of rest and healing will now follow before looking at the next one ❤️🖤

At the end of every Junior class, you’ll see our students lined up, standing quietly, waiting to receive certificates, announcements and bow off together

To some, it might seem like a small part of the lesson

To us, it’s one of the most important

Martial arts is about far more than punches, kicks and fitness. It’s about learning respect, self-discipline, patience and the ability to listen when it’s time to listen

Standing still when you’re excited. Waiting your turn. Showing respect to your instructors and fellow students. Finishing class properly

These are valuable life skills that will serve our students long after they leave the training mats
