For many years, the position of National Governing Body for Taekwondo in the United Kingdom was effectively misappropriated by an organization predominantly led by officials representing a non-Olympic, minority style of the martial artβoften stylized as "Tae Kwon-Do." This led to widespread confusion among parents and prospective students, many of whom were misled into believing that this less-recognized, UK-specific style was synonymous with authentic, Olympic-style Taekwondo, which is governed globally by World Taekwondo and rooted in the Moosool (무μ ) tradition of South Korea. Fortunately, this longstanding distortion has now been corrected: British Taekwondo has been officially recognized as the legitimate National Governing Body for Olympic Taekwondo in the United Kingdom, under the auspices of World Taekwondo and Kukkiwon.
We are proud to announce that British Taekwondo has received official recognition from all Home Nations Sports Councils β including Sport England, Sportscotland, Sport Wales, Sport NI, and UK Sport β as the officially recognised National Governing Body for WT Taekwondo in the UK ππ½
This milestone affirms our commitment to growing and supporting Taekwondo at every level β from grassroots to elite performance β across all nations of the UK.
