🥋 FACTS OVER FEAR
DO YOU REALLY NEED A SPORT ENGLAND-RECOGNISED NGB TO HIRE A SPORTS HALL?
Not necessarily.
First, let’s make one thing absolutely clear:
Taekwondo Council United Kingdom is a National Governing Body for Taekwondo in the UK.
We provide a national framework of governance, safeguarding, insurance, instructor standards, welfare, development, competition standards and support for our member clubs and organisations.
TCUK is also recognised and connected through a growing network of respected organisations and frameworks, including the Safeguarding Code in Martial Arts, BMABA and the NWG Network, among others.
What TCUK is not is a Sport England-recognised NGB — and we are completely transparent about that distinction.
That distinction matters, because being an NGB and being a Sport England-recognised NGB are not the same statement.
TCUK supports over 8,000 members across more than 200 venues nationally, and to date we are not aware of a TCUK club or organisation being unable to hire a venue because TCUK is not Sport England recognised, once the appropriate processes, documentation and due diligence have been completed.
What venues commonly want to see is that a club is:
✅ Properly insured
✅ Safeguarded
✅ DBS compliant where required
✅ Run by appropriately qualified and experienced instructors
✅ Risk assessed
✅ Health & Safety compliant
✅ Properly governed and accountable
And that is exactly how it should be.
If a venue does specifically ask for affiliation to a Sport England-recognised NGB, speak to us.
We can help you establish exactly what the venue requires, review the criteria, provide supporting documentation and, where necessary, assist with communication with the venue.
Ask what the venue actually requires.
Ask for the policy.
Ask for the criteria.
And if you need support — ask us.
Make decisions based on facts, evidence and proper due diligence — not fear.
