I used to think commitment meant pushing harder. Now I think it means coming back consistently.
There’s nothing wrong with challenge. I love a challenge.

But I’m increasingly wary of fitness and wellbeing messages that make exhaustion look virtuous and self-neglect look impressive.

Real strength is much less flashy. It’s the ability to keep showing up without breaking yourself in the process.

Fitness should challenge you, yes. But it shouldn’t leave you feeling punished, embarrassed or broken.

Thursday’s class is designed to help you work at your own level, with options, encouragement and no pressure to keep up. If you want to build strength in a sensible, supportive way, this is your invitation.

There’s a big difference between healthy challenge and ignoring your body.

Healthy challenge might feel like effort, warmth, breathlessness, muscle fatigue or concentration.

Warning signs might feel like sharp pain, dizziness, nausea, chest pain, joint pain, or feeling unusually unwell.

Fitness should involve listening, not overriding.

Strong people don’t ignore every signal. Strong people learn which signals matter.

“No pain, no gain” has a lot to answer for. Effort is useful. Challenge is useful. Feeling your muscles work is useful.

But pain, dizziness, injury niggles, exhaustion and pushing through warning signs are not badges of honour.

Fitness should help you live better - not leave you limping through the rest of the week.

Thursday evening fitness class is on this week.

No choreography. No shouting. No expectation to keep up with anyone else.

Just a friendly, structured session to help you build strength, confidence and consistency. Come as you are, work at your level, and leave feeling better.

June seems like a good month to talk about effort.

Not the dramatic, white-knuckle, push-through-at-all-costs version. The quieter kind. The kind where you show up, listen to your body, build gradually, rest when needed, and don’t treat exhaustion as a badge of honour.

Because strength isn’t just what you can endure. Sometimes strength is knowing when to stop.

Two days. Another Outdoor First Aid renewal completed.

Every few years I spend the weekend to refresh and reassess my first aid skills - not because I expect things to go wrong, but because when you work with people outdoors and through movement, being prepared matters.

From wellbeing walks and trail adventures to fitness sessions and retreats, I’m often supporting people in environments where help isn’t immediately around the corner.

This training goes far beyond emergency first aid. It covers everything from fractures, head injuries and medical emergencies to environmental conditions, casualty assessment and decision-making under pressure.

What I value most is that it builds confidence as much as competence.
Not panic. Not guesswork.
Calm, practical action when someone needs support.

Thankfully, serious incidents are rare - and I hope they stay that way - but my clients deserve to know that their safety is something I take seriously behind the scenes, not just when it’s convenient.

The certificate lasts three years.
The responsibility lasts every single session. ❤️
