May has been an incredible month for everyone at Eve Lodge, producing nine winners and seven second-place finishes.

The standout performance was undoubtedly Cabello de Mar’s Group 1 success in Paris last week, while Bay City Roller produced a career-best effort to achieve a Timeform rating of 120 when finishing second in the Tattersalls Gold Cup.

Sea Venture, Behike, EFSixteen and Mrair all arguably booked their places at Royal Ascot next month, while old favourites Prydwen and Reliable Ricki also played their part in what has been a hugely encouraging few weeks.

Traditionally, May has been a slightly steadier month for us, as we never place too much pressure on the horses early in the season. However, I genuinely feel that this year’s team possesses a higher level of quality than ever before. The horses are thriving, the yard is healthy, and the staff have been outstanding throughout.

There is still a huge amount of runway ahead of us this season and, while we have made a bright start, our focus remains on maintaining these standards and building on this momentum throughout the year.

With Royal Ascot just around the corner, excitement levels are beginning to build, and we look forward to the challenges that lie ahead.

Caballo De Mar held off all challengers to secure victory in the Prix Vicomtesse Vigier at ParisLongchamp.

George Scott’s five-year-old was ridden by Oisin Murphy as something of an outsider in the Group One, despite having struck at the same level in the Prix du Cadran previously.

In the home straight there were plenty of contenders with a chance, many of them trained in Britain and Ireland, but under pressure from all sides it was Caballo De Mar who showed the most heart to prevail by a neck from Santorini Star with Al Riffa a short head back in third.

He just tries so hard and he’s such a character,” Scott told Sky Sports Racing.

“The team do such a such a good job with him and he is one in a million.

“He’s done it more than once now but he still always seems to be underestimated, I couldn’t believe that he was about 20-1 at one point on the PMU (parimutuel) and I almost queued up but there were so many people.

“He got such a good ride, Oisin is a rare talent. He’s an amazing horseman and we we’re pleased to have him on board today.”

Murphy added: “It was pretty straightforward, the pace wasn’t very fast early and it turned into a bit of a dash.

“He stays well, the Gold Cup at Ascot was always his target. I’m delighted for Victorious Racing (owners), they’ll be watching from Bahrain.”

It’s been a fantastic week here at Eve Lodge with 5 winners on the board and plenty to be excited about.

Alvin set the tone early, showing the blistering speed we’ve always believed he had. Zubaru and Reliable Ricky followed up with a brilliant double at Doncaster, while it was especially pleasing to see our first two-year-old winners of the season in O’Gorman and EFsixteen. The latter looks firmly on track for Royal Ascot and showed real quality on debut for Victorious Forever.

Caballo de Mar ran a career best to finish second, just beaten a neck while giving weight away, and is now one of the favourites for the Ascot Gold Cup.

Looking ahead, we’re excited to finally get the wraps off Bay City Roller this week. With some rain forecast at Chester, conditions should suit, and I’ve been particularly pleased with his work recently.

Spirits are high at Eve Lodge, as you’d expect, with a 39% strike rate over the last 14 days. That said, there’s plenty more work to do and the whole team continues to pull in the same direction.

It’s been another positive week here at Eve Lodge, with the horses performing exceptionally well across multiple jurisdictions. Collectively, they have earned over £350,000 in prize money across Dubai, Bahrain, and England, which is a fantastic return and a testament to the team’s hard work.

The standout performance of the week was undoubtedly Phantom Flight, who delivered an outstanding victory to secure a second King’s Cup for Victorious. He has been expertly managed by the team in Bahrain and arrived at the race in superb condition. Arguably, he has never looked better, and that was reflected in his performance as he claimed one of Bahrain’s most prestigious prizes. He was given a beautifully judged ride by Benoit, and everything came together perfectly on the day, with the horse producing what could well be his best performance to date in Bahrain.

Back in England, stable favourite Prydwen roared back into form with an excellent second in the Easter Marathon, effectively paying for his year in a single run. It was a tremendous effort from everyone at home to have him performing at such a high level at the age of eight. Alvin also looks a young sprinter going places and was arguably unlucky not to win at Lingfield on the same day. Overall, the horses are forward, healthy, and in great form—long may that continue.

Phantom Flight was produced with a perfectly timed challenge by jockey Benoit De La Sayette to provide owners Victorious Forever and trainer George Scott with a memorable victory in the 2026 running of HM The King’s Cup, run in honour of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, King of the Kingdom of Bahrain.

The win was Phantom Flight’s fourth success in the Kingdom and a first Group race win in a career that has spanned five years. The runner-up was the defending champion, Sovereign Spirit, with European Group 1 winner, Calif, in third. The Group 3 race is the most prestigious prize in Bahrain’s racing calendar, with a prize fund of $400,000.

It was also a momentous result for jockey Benoit De La Sayette, being his first success in a Group race and the perfect way to round off his first winter based in Bahrain. The red and white colours of Victorious Forever were last carried to victory in The King’s Cup by Isle Of Jura in 2024, also trained by George Scott.

We’re excited to be represented with runners in Saudi Arabia and Qatar as the team prepares for a big international weekend.

Phantom Flight will take his chance in the $3,000,000 Neom Turf in Saudi Arabia, with Callum Shepherd booked to ride, while No Retreat heads to Qatar to contest the $500,000 ITM Cup, where he will be partnered by Adrie de Vries. Both horses have been trained with these targets firmly in mind, and it’s a great opportunity to compete on some of the biggest stages in the region.

It’s always a privilege to run at such prestigious international meetings and we’re very much looking forward to seeing how both perform.

On a strong supporting card, one of the most anticipated races was the Bahrain Mile (sponsored by BBK) in which local hero Byline was up against No Retreat.

In the end, victory was emphatic in favour of No Retreat, providing the team of Victorious Forever, trainer George Scott and jockey Callum Shepherd with another horse to be excited about and one who could be campaigned in major races both in the Middle East and Europe.

Held up off a strong pace, No Retreat pulled clear of Byline and international raider Northern Express.

Speaking after the race, winning rider Callum Shepherd said: “He was very good, it was really smooth. He seems to have taken a big leap forward the last two starts and he’s earned his place wherever he goes next, he’s a proper Stakes horse.”

Trainer George Scott revealed that No Retreat’s next run will be in the Middle East: “He goes to Qatar in two weeks, I am looking forward to that. We’ll see how he goes there and we’ll take it one race at a time, but I do love this horse. I would have been very upset if he didn’t win well.

Speaking about how well the horse has taken to being based in Bahrain, Scott added: “He loves a strict routine and he doesn’t take much work. When you’re in the UK there are variable factors that change, but here it’s the same thing every day, which he enjoys. Today was a race of some magnitude, but bigger tests will await him now. He’s got the physical capability to keep improving.”

Objector made it two wins from two starts under Darragh Keenan after absolutely bolting up at Wolverhampton last week. Although he still showed signs of greenness, he’s clearly a horse with plenty of ability, and he also has a wonderful temperament to go with it.
Drawn wide, he broke well and tracked the leader throughout, always travelling strongly and never looking like getting beaten, before powering clear to win by 11 lengths. He’s a horse who still has some physical maturing to do, and as I mentioned in my post-race comments that he could certainly be for a handicap at Royal Ascot.
Congratulations to his owner Kevin Cook, who looks to have a smart horse on his hands.

🇧🇭 In round three of the Bahrain Turf Series Phantom Flight secured a fourth Listed success when winning the Al Adiyat Cup (sponsored by Bareeq) and in doing so he delivered a performance that left his trainer purring with delight.

Trained by George Scott and ridden by Callum Shepherd, the Victorious Forever owned six-year-old put up arguably a career best effort in demolishing the high-class field in the 1800m race. The eventual runner up, beaten four lengths, was Hi Royal with Panning For Gold staying on for third.

Speaking after the race, trainer George Scott, said: “I was so happy with him today, he was electric, wasn’t he? I thought that was the performance of horse at the top of his game.

“I want to thank our amazing team out here. The girls have been coming out each year and Rosie Jessop rides Phantom Flight every day, she’s just completely invaluable to us, knows the horse so well and she clearly had him spot on today.”

The $80,000 Listed race was run at a strong pace set by Signalman, with Phantom Flight tracking Hi Royal who sat second, but as soon as Callum Shepherd asked Phantom Flight to lengthen in the home straight there was only one winner.

Callum Shepherd said: “The race went beautifully, it was a strong field and he dealt with them very well. We were on the hip of Hi Royal throughout and then he kept extending all the way to the line when I asked him.

“He loves it here and he’s just grown up again this year. He became quite tricky to ride towards the end of last season and then he was almost horizontally laid back in the summer, but we seem to have found a nice middle ground. Today, he was very responsive but relaxed at the same time.”🇧🇭
