More than just a walk 🌿

Harbourside Physiotherapy

Nordic walking uses the whole body, gets us outside and makes movement feel a little less like “exercise”.

No pressure to be fast.
No need to be super fit.
And no need to own any equipment — we provide the poles!

Sessions can also be adapted around injuries, health conditions and individual needs, so you can find a pace and style of movement that works for you.

Hosted with Harbourside Physiotherapy, these sessions are all about fresh air, good company and getting your body moving.

Movement doesn’t have to be complicated to count.

Movement classes can be so much more than just exercising.

They are a space to stop and be.

They foster an environment of awareness and understanding.

Learning about how to move your body with strength, support and grace.

You don’t always need to sweat or come away feeling exhausted.

Sometimes you just need to move in a way that feels good.

4 things to help with your fitness goals, that isn’t exercise.

1. Sleep
2. Hydration
3. Eating whole foods
4. Walking

Start with small goals! Make a plan for one area, for example, walking slightly further each day, or adding in an extra small walk in the week. When that becomes a habit redirect your focus onto something else, like more water.

Things will soon start to feel easier in fitness, health and life.

We spend so much time worrying about what might happen, that we lose opportunities right in front of us.

Take this as a sign to try something that you’ve been putting off.

Try that movement class, see that specialist. Apply for that job, message that friend ♄

Life is what happens when you’re waiting for a ‘perfect time’ now is that time, you can do it.

Pain is a bit like a smoke alarm. 🚹

Sometimes the alarm sounds because there’s a fire and you need to act. But sometimes, you’ve simply burnt some toast.

Pain works in a similar way. It’s an important warning signal, but it doesn’t always mean that you’re causing damage or that you need to stop moving completely.

Sometimes pain tells us that the body doesn’t currently have the capacity for the load, range, duration or type of movement we’re asking from it. In rehabilitation, the answer may be to adjust the movement, reduce the intensity or gradually build tolerance, not avoid it forever.

That doesn’t mean ignoring pain or blindly pushing through it. New, severe or worsening pain should always be properly assessed. But with the right guidance, some discomfort can be a safe and useful part of rebuilding strength, confidence and capacity.

So, before assuming your house is burning down, pause and consider - could it just be burnt toast?👀

Save this for the next time pain makes you afraid to move. ❀

4 things I wish I knew when starting my fitness journey.

1. Make a plan - a plan for the next month/3months/year/5years! Whatever the time frame, use that plan to frame your sessions. 📝
2. Wear whatever you want, anything. I’ve been to the gym in crocs, I’ve exercises in pyjamas. Whatever gets you there and moving ✹
3. Progress takes time, but it’s worth it. In the way you move, feel, think, it’s worth every second.
4. Always make it fun! đŸ„° - this I’ve struggled with throughout the years, but as long as you’re picking things you like, and using that to build habits, you’ll enjoy the journey x

If you want any support in starting your journey, or getting back on track after a lull. Pop me a message♄

People often ask me about the best form of exercise and the answer is surprisingly simple. It’s not strength training cardio or CrossFit. The best exercise is the one that motivates you to get out of bed on a rainy winter’s day or take you off the beach in summer. It’s the one you do at the end of a long workday because you simply can’t miss it.

Ultimately, your fitness level depends on your consistent exercise routine. Planning a routine focused on glute growth or speed but missing two to four sessions because you’re not feeling it can lead to missed progress.

Find what you enjoy and that motivates you. Then gradually incorporate specific training plans. You’ll have built the foundation for achieving your goals and the results will follow. Just start! If you want to learn more, pop me a message. You’ve got this đŸ€˜đŸŒđŸ’ȘđŸŒ
