16 Scaldfish Specie Hunter Haul 🤩🔥
I’ve been out catching Pokémon again 🤪 targeting the weird little wonderful things! Had a crew of specie hunters aboard for the last 2 days, that also run a little match whilst in the process, so it was time to have a little change up and get finesse and technical with it, trying to pick out the ‘Unicorns’ of the sea, for those hard to get rarities for the specie hunters tallies! This kind of fishing, however not too sporting and you can’t expect ripping drag and big bendos, I do find very fun, its ultimately the challenge of the hunt and dialling in timings to hit each species and keeping some momentum to the day. As a skipper it can get technical, which I guess is the fun for me!
Day 1 was lovely and in the groove, a ‘scratching’ style day with plenty of drift fishing and a finish on an anchor. Kept the bites coming all day, 13 scaldfish both imperials and common scaldfish for the guys, 4 guys on board having both, that’s pretty cool and which was high on their lists to see, ultimately probably one of the rarest species to get as a hunter! turned out to be the most I’ve ever seen in one session! Loads of gurnards, some flatties and a couple of greater weevers again high on the lists amongst others. Moving on saw a couple of Combers and then lots of red bream at anchor. Ticked off the plan nicely, ended the day on 21 species.
Day 2 plan got underway, we thrown in a bonus hour for an attempt at more scaldfish as Mike who joined just for day 2 needed one, but typically we found 3 more and neither fell to his rod 😅 Then the main plan was to focus on getting some coalfish and to try find a couches as these were high on the lists. The activity was strangely low where I hoped to find coalfish, we got the usual pollack, bass, wrasse and mackerel but it just didn’t seem right, not the usual hectic action I expect, which was the story for the rest of the day, failing to nail on some of the special fish and just picking away the usuals, but even they were weirdly slow to be honest but it didn’t go down without the effort put in, jumping mark to mark and switching it up to try make it click, but it just didn’t, I guess no matter how hard I try sometimes fishing with always be fishing, and not all Pokémon can be caught 😅
I think we ended with 26 species for the 2 days overall.
The guys were great company and we enjoyed a beautiful 2 days on the water with amazing conditions. So cheers guys 🙌🏼
Here’s a few shots from the trip of some of the shapes, sizes and colours, big or small we love em all! 🎣
Plenty more to catch up on when I next get the chance, been FLAT OUT! 😴🎣
