🎣 CONFIDENCE CREATES CAPTURES 🎣

There’s always a sense of satisfaction when a plan comes together, and today’s 9-hour day session was a perfect example.

Just a couple of hours after setting up, I was rewarded with this stunning 8lb 2oz common carp, proving once again that confidence in your approach can make all the difference.

The fish was caught from a very tight spot at 12 wraps, positioned alongside a fallen tree where accurate placement was very essential. The successful setup consisted of a Ronnie rig from Cally's Carpy Customs, paired with a 3oz distance from OTB LEADS to ensure effective presentation over the lakebed.

🍋 Hookbait
A 15mm Peppered Fruit white fluro Pop-Up from Dynamite Baits, enhanced with the matching Peppered Fruit Hookbait Dip, proved irresistible.

🪣 Baiting Approach
Keeping things simple and precise, I introduced just 15 x 15mm Peppered Fruit boilies around the area using a throwing stick. A minimal baiting strategy that delivered an early opportunity and ultimately the result.

Carp fishing often comes down to getting the fundamentals right—location, presentation, and confidence in the bait you’re fishing. Today was a reminder that you don’t always need to overcomplicate things when the approach is right.

A huge thank you to the companies whose products continue to give me complete confidence every time I get out on the bank:

Day Session 17 - Newent Lake

A classic early spring day on the bank with constantly changing conditions. The session started windy but comfortable under the brolly, and it didn’t take long before the rods produced an early take – a Common Carp weighing 8 lb 2 oz to get the session underway.

After the early success things slowed down, so the spots were refreshed with some bait. Carp were soon seen showing and jumping in the area, which was encouraging and suggested fish were still moving through the swim.

Around 2:00 PM the weather took a turn with a heavy storm bringing hail and intense rain for nearly an hour, dropping the temperature quickly. The rods stayed out through the storm, and once the rain eased around 3:00 PM, the swim was topped up again with a few boilies spread using the throwing stick.

By 3:30 PM the clouds began to clear and patches of blue sky and sunshine appeared across the lake. Despite the improving weather, fish activity slowed and no further bites came before packing up at 6:00 PM.

Not the busiest session, but still a great day on the bank and another lesson in how quickly spring weather can influence carp behaviour.

🎣 CONFIDENCE CREATES CAPTURES 🎣

There’s always a sense of satisfaction when a plan comes together, and today’s 9-hour day session was a perfect example.

Just a couple of hours after setting up, I was rewarded with this stunning 19lb 4oz common carp, proving once again that confidence in your approach can make all the difference.

Day Session 16 - Newent Lake 🎣

Despite a cold, blustery wind sweeping across the water, staying tucked under the brolly paid off today. Persistence was rewarded with the capture of a beautiful common carp weighing 19lb 4oz, showing off a stunning dark winter skin — a real character of the lake and a great reward for sticking it out in challenging conditions. 🐟❄️💨

Moments like these make every cold session worthwhile.

Day Session 14 – Newent Lake 🎣

A cold, testing day on the bank with temperatures keeping the carp lethargic and holding off the margins. 🥶 The lake felt quiet, with very little showing and minimal movement throughout the session. Despite working different areas and adjusting tactics, we couldn’t tempt a carp onto the bank this time.

We did manage two freshwater bream, which at least confirmed the spots were being visited 🐟 — but the target species remained elusive. A touch of rain passed through 🌧️, though nothing significant enough to impact conditions too heavily.

Days like this are part of the angler’s journey. Observation, patience, and adapting to conditions remain key. Not every session brings carp, but every session brings experience. On to the next one with lessons learned and motivation intact. 💪🎯

🎣 Day Session 13 – Newent Lake

With March arriving, signs of spring are finally beginning to show 🌱—but the conditions are still very much winter-like on this tricky water.

Today’s session on Newent Lake proved challenging, with the carp remaining elusive. However, persistence paid off with a quality freshwater bream making an appearance—always a welcome bend in the rod when bites are at a premium 🐟

These colder sessions are all part of the process. Reading the water, adapting tactics, and staying consistent are key—especially on venues that don’t give up their rewards easily. The carp may have won today, but every session adds valuable knowledge for the next one.

On to the next 🎯

Day Session 12 - Newent Lake 🎣

Started the session with some lovely weather, which always gives you confidence from the off ☀️. I did have a promising opportunity early on, but unfortunately the carp picked up the hookbait and ejected it before I could capitalise on the chance.

I made a few tactical adjustments throughout the day, trying to turn things around, but it just wasn’t meant to be this time. No carp on the bank and a blank to take on the chin.

That said, every session is a lesson. Time to reflect, go back to the drawing board, and come back stronger with some fresh ideas for the next outing 💭🎯

On to the next session 👊

Day Session 11 – Newent Lake ☀️

What a brilliant day out on the bank at Newent Lake, blessed with beautiful sunshine throughout the session. 🌤️

Although the carp didn’t make an appearance this time, it was still an enjoyable and productive day’s fishing. I managed to land a few freshwater bream, with the largest weighing in at around 4lb 🐟💪

Every session is a learning curve, and I’m already looking forward to the next one with renewed focus and confidence. 🎯

On to the next session! 👊🎣
