Your fitness journey is like building a house

You can’t just go from having nothing to having a fully built house in a day

You have to start with the foundation, become comfortable in the gym environment, learn the basics and understand what your body needs.

Then we build up from there, you increase your strength, improve your fitness and see physical and mental changes.

There will never be a fully finished product you’ll always want to push yourself further but what you’ll have is a sense of pride in what you’ve built.

Calorie deficit = fat loss

The principle itself seems simple but creating this deficit is difficult for lots of different reasons.

The foods we enjoy the most tend to be higher in calories, we enjoy meals out and maybe a drink at the weekend.
Now we don’t want to miss out on these things because we want to enjoy life while still getting into great shape.

So, what do we do?
there are a few directions we can take this as long as the outcome is a calorie deficit.  
For example, we can make some substitutions and I don’t mean swapping pizza for chicken and rice, what we can do is maybe go for a small pizza instead of the large, add toppings like chicken or peppers the ones that are a little less in calories, use low fat cheese too all these small things can save you a couple hundred calories.

Another strategy we can use is banking our calories if you know you’re going out for a meal or drinks at the weekend, we can shave a couple hundred calories per day off our total Monday-Thursday and have those extra calories we’ve banked at the weekend.

Generally, what I’m getting at here is that even though we need to make changes and adjust our lifestyle you can still enjoy yourself and all the things you would do normally do all while looking better and feeling better.

This is how you should look after a session^

Too many people have fear around because they’ve had bad experience with it or seen and heard of others crippled from being tormented during a training session.

What happens after you leave a session like that is, you are sore for days, your energy levels are down and you can’t continue with life like you normally would.

This is counterproductive when aiming for fat loss because it will affect how much we move during our day to day life therefore burning less calories through your week overall.

The benefits of strength training 🏋🏻‍♂️

Let’s talk a little bit about a few of the benefits of strength training!

Firstly muscle gain, increasing strength and progressing our lifts in the gym will help you gain muscle. Gaining muscle while on your fat loss journey will then help you appear leaner.

Secondly gaining strength will help improve your everyday life making things like lifting in the shopping, lifting and playing with your kids, and even getting up and down the stairs easier. As you get older your strength deteriorates and you want to delay that natural process as much as possible.

Lastly pain relief, from my experience as a coach I’ve seen a lot of people who are in pain and a lot of this pain comes from weakness especially in areas like knees, hips, back and shoulders. If we can strengthen these areas we can help relieve it.
