We begin last weekโ€™s adventures in the Mournes with Race 7 of the Hill and Dale Series at Millstone. This would be a race that rewarded patience as the crew displayed some strong climbing before a strong headwind greeted them on their descent. Performances to note include Mark Winter and Oonagh Mac Oscar crossing the line as first PRC male and female, with Oonagh also placing 6th in the F35 category. Well done folks! ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿƒ๐Ÿปโ€โ™‚๏ธ๐Ÿƒโ€โ™€๏ธ

Closer to sea level, mother daughter duo Joanne and Katie Weir were in Belfast for the CS Lewis 5 Mile Challenge. Both were rewarded for their efforts on the multi terrain course with a Lion bar and a chance to meet Aslan himself! Well done ladies ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿฆ๐Ÿƒโ€โ™€๏ธ๐Ÿƒโ€โ™€๏ธ

Saturday saw some of the PRC Crew, who made it all the way to Poland, take on the Babis Gรณra Ultramarathon. The event consisted of repeated ascents of the Babia Gรณra peak, the highest peak in the Beskid ลปywiecki region, on a course which offered rugged tracks and technical mountain terrain. The club was well represented across many of the distances on over with John Martin and Richard Hammond completing the 4x challenge, Richard Templeton completing the 3x and Ania Bennett and Simon Hamilton competing the 2x course. Well done folks, thatโ€™s some serious elevation!

We had a fabulous group of women down in Dublin for the BEST TIME EVER! at the Vhi Womenโ€™s Mini Marathon. This 10k, which has been run since 1983, saw over 28,000 women running this year. Our 13 ladies made a day of it, the party starting on the mini bus down to Dublin๐Ÿ’ƒ. An amazing day was had, especially for mother and daughter duo Joanne W and Katie W who both brought home new pbs๐Ÿคฉ. Fabulous running by the ultimate girl squad ๐Ÿ‘‘.

Two runners headed to Manchester for the AJ Bell Great Manchester Run, competing in the half marathon distance. This exciting route passed by some iconic city sites such as Man City AND Man United football grounds, and Coronation Street for those who like a different kind of drama๐ŸŽญ. Well done Simon M and Paul M, it looked like a great time away๐Ÿ‘. A special shoutout to Paul M who also ran a brilliant new pb โญ๏ธ!

Beth G headed over to the Newmarket half marathon in England. In the heart of Sulfolk this course brought Beth along a fast one-lap tarmac course through the rolling countryside and past some iconic horse racing landmarks ๐ŸŽ. The odds were in favour of PRCโ€™s Beth (and some great training was in her legs ๐Ÿ’ช) and she thus ran an awesome new half marathon pb โญ๏ธ. Great racing Beth ๐Ÿ‘!

This weekend we also had Rachel W taking on the Norn Iron 100 Mini. Now, do not let the word โ€˜miniโ€™ distort the truth that this was in fact not a short race, as it totalled an epic 37 miles ๐Ÿค“. Rachel started her run in Dungiven and ran all the way to Gortin, and what a class job of it she did. Rachel finished 3rd female, another podium finish for a podium performance ๐Ÿฅ‰. What a star โญ!

Taking the more scenic route, Mark W took part in the full Norn Iron 100. Again, to tell the truth and give him his dues, this race was actually 106 miles (Mark can explain how those extra 6 miles take effect). The route was a point to point run from Ballintoy to Gortin, taking in 3,800m elevation ๐Ÿซช. His stellar endurance, whilst unfathomable to some, is a testament to his dedicated and meticulous training over the last few months. Well done Mark ๐Ÿคฉ!

Great work everyone ๐Ÿ‘

๐Ÿƒโ€โ™€๏ธRace Report - PRC Internal 5k Race๐Ÿƒ

On Wednesday night (27th) we hosted our internal club 5k race at Craigavon Lakes. We host this event every year as a way for our runners to enjoy a free timed event of which they can test their speed or run a social 5 with club friends. The hot weather is lovely when youโ€™re sitting in the garden but our runners will tell you how hard it is to run in. Despite the heat 64 athletes came well hydrated and ready to run ๐Ÿ.

First over the line was Stephen M in a time of 19.11, followed one second later by Gareth K in 19.12 with Adam M securing 3rd male in a time of 19.19 โญ๏ธ. Our first female home was Naomi A in a time of 21.53, followed by Rachel C with 22.08 then Ellen M in 22.23โญ๏ธ. Those on the podium werenโ€™t the only one celebrating as we had 12 pbs! Iโ€™d like to present some kudos to the following for their fabulous pbs: Pauline M, Naomi A, Naomi W, Beth G, Chris McC, Aidan J, Katie W, Jayne V, Rachel C, Stuart P, Sarah Q and Kev T ๐Ÿ”ฅ

A special thanks to the coaching committee for organising this event for our runners. Thanks also to the steering committee for providing the prizes and post race snacks and water. Finally a big thank you to the volunteers who helped by marshalling or by pacing their fellow club mates. ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘

What a great night everyone! ๐Ÿคฉ

Down the road PRC had a 10/10 day at the Newry half marathon and 10k. This is a fast and flat route with both races heading out the dual carriageway towards Warrenpoint and then back to Newry. Our runners were earning kudos all around as they came home with pbs. The fabulous five runners were Stuart P (in the half marathon) and Ellen M, Paul M, Rachelle S and Seamus M (in the 10k)๐Ÿคฉ. A special mention to Ellen M who also achieved 1st place in her age category ๐Ÿ‘‘. Amazing running you five. We also had Sinead M running the 10k with a very strong performance ๐Ÿ‘. We are one very proud club!

At 6pm on Saturday evening we had 8 runners at the start of the Argory Twilight Endurance Challenge. This entailed athletes completing as many 3.3km loops as they could within the 3hr, 6hr or 12hr races. At 9pm the 3hr challenge finished with Simon M completing a fabulous 23.1k ๐Ÿ‘. 3 hrs later, as the fairytale goes, the clock struck midnight and the 6 hour race came to an end. Richard H had racked up an impressive 56.1k and secured 2nd male ๐Ÿ’ช. Janine M, in her debut ultra, ran a fantastic 46.2k and placed 1st female ๐Ÿ‘‘. This reporter can confidently say that this is sure to be the first of many for Janine! Finally at 6am when some folk began to rise from their beds (not me ๐Ÿ˜ด), the 12hr challenge ended and our last five runners stopped their watches. Both with a staggering 89.1k we had Mark Winter and Chris W who finished 2nd and 3rd male respectively ๐ŸคŒ. With a mighty 79.2k complete Jo Mac and John M came next ๐Ÿ”ฅ. A special mention to Jo who came 1st female ๐Ÿ‘‘. Our final runner was Mark J who ran an impressive 66k ๐Ÿ’ช. We are all in awe of these fabulous results guys, well done!

Great running this past week everyone! ๐Ÿ‘

๐Ÿƒโ€โ™€๏ธ๐Ÿƒ Race Report ๐Ÿƒ๐Ÿƒโ€โ™€๏ธ [part one]

Pour your beverage of choice and take a seat, weโ€™ve got another long report after a glorious week of running for PRC.

Starting with the 5th race of the H&D series at Lukeโ€™s Mountain on Thursday. Nearly 300 competitors took on this race which involves a tricky, rocky downhill with amble opportunities to fall, of which Jon K availed of, resulting in a nasty dislocated finger ๐Ÿซช. Notable performances include top 10 age category finishes for Oonagh M and Rachel W. This reporter can also confirm that despite what the picture on this post suggests, Tim did run the race with both shoes on. Well done on Thursday and good luck at Donard this week everyone ๐Ÿ’ช!

In the Cooley mountains on Saturday, Simon H took part in the IMRA Cooley Half Marathon. This tough course packed almost 900m climb into the 21k over the trails of the quiet Cooley hills. All taken in his stride, Simon ran a fabulous race on a cloudy but warm day. Great work Simon ๐Ÿคฉ!

Thankfully one does not need their finger to run, and so following the H&D on Thursday, Jon K was back on the trails at the Fox Trail Marathon in England. You donโ€™t need me to tell you how warm it was this weekend, but Iโ€™m going to anyway as the the temperature hit 29 degrees C in Guildford, making it a particularly tough 4 hours for Jon, but he got it done and did it well. Great racing Jon ๐Ÿ‘!

Over in Edinburgh on Sunday we had Jacqui B race the Edinburgh half marathon and Tim J race the full marathon. During this event our runners passed by iconic spots such as Greyfriars Kirkyard and the Royal Mile. This race is also boasted as one of the fastest marathons in the world. Tim ran a great run in the full, taking advantage of the flat scenic course ๐Ÿ‘. Jacqui shared with us the mental struggle of having to pass by the finish line with still over 3 miles left of the race. Despite this she ran a fabulous time โญ๏ธ! Well done guys ๐Ÿ”ฅ

Great going everyone ๐Ÿ‘

Head over to part two on our profile!

๐Ÿƒโ€โ™€๏ธ๐ŸƒRace Report๐Ÿƒ๐Ÿƒโ€โ™€๏ธ

The fourth race of the Hill & Dales series took place on Thursday at Meelmore. Back to an up and down route this week, the steep course took on the iconic climb up Spelleck which challenges both strength and route choice. Performances to note include Ellen M who finished 5th in the F55 category โญ๏ธ and Richard H and Oonagh M who were first PRC male and female home ๐Ÿ‘. Good luck this week at Lukeโ€™s Mountain.

On Saturday we had a bunch of runners on the start line of The Coast half marathon and 10k organised by Born2Run. Our runners were treated to scenic sea and majestic mountain viewโ€™s, with the half marathon also getting to visit the tallest onshore lighthouse in Ireland, St. Johnโ€™s! The views werenโ€™t the only fantastic thing about this race as our runners produced some fantastic results. Notably in the half marathon Jane V, Katie W and Claire Y achieved pbs and Babu S and Debbie T brought home new pbs in the 10k๐Ÿคฉ. Brilliant running everyone! ๐Ÿ‘

On Sunday some of PRC travelled to Coalisland to race in the seriously fast Newell Stores 5k and 10k. This flat course boasts the opportunity for speedy times which all our runners achieved. Special mention to Pauline M and Aidan J for their pbs in the 10k and Matthew L who got a new 5k pb ๐Ÿ‘. Great racing everyone ๐Ÿคฉ.

๐Ÿƒโ€โ™€๏ธ๐ŸƒRace Report๐Ÿƒ๐Ÿƒโ€โ™€๏ธ

Last Thursday the Hill and Dales series brought our runners back to the base of the Mournes for another race. This particular race is a unique one in the series as it is uphill only, meaning the finish line is at the top of the 747m mountainโ›ฐ๏ธ . PRC had some strong runners at the race, with some tackling it for the first time and a few others who thought theyโ€™d give it another go to see if it was really as hard as they remembered it being (it was๐Ÿซช!).
Some performances to note includes a top 10 age category finish for Ellen M, Rachel W, Jeny C and Nadine M ๐Ÿคฉ๐Ÿ‘‘.

Well done everyone and good luck for the next race in the series ๐Ÿ‘!

๐Ÿƒโ€โ™€๏ธ๐ŸƒRace Report๐Ÿƒ๐Ÿƒโ€โ™€๏ธ

Sunday was the day to be out running in a teal t-shirt ๐Ÿฉต

First off, at the Dublin City Half Marathon we had Michael M take the start line on Oโ€™Connell street. Joined by 13,000 runners, this 21.1km route took Michael round the north side of the city, along the river bank to finish back in the city centre. Michael absolutely flew around the course, racing his way to a fabulous pb. Well done! ๐Ÿ‘

In Limerick City, Siobhan T took on the Great Limerick Run marathon distance. The 42.2km race provided an alternative way to sightsee in the city with its passing along the river Shannon, Thomond Stadium and the University of Limerick. Siobhan ran an impressively speedy race and definitely one to be proud of โญ.

A big chunk of our PRC runners decided to switch out their Sunday long run round Portadown for the streets of Belfast. 16 runners raced in the full Belfast City Marathon, taking the long way from Stormont to Ormeau Park. We are well chuffed to share how 10 runners achieved a pb including; Rory C, Adam M, George A, Jon K, Philip H, J***y C, Chris W and Paula H, Jacqui B and Laura ๐Ÿ”ฅ. We also have a special shoutout for Jacqui and Laura who completed their first marathon ๐Ÿ‘‘๐Ÿ‘‘. There were also 30 runners within our 6 PRC relay teams. These teams showcased the teamwork, enthusiasm and community that is so integral to PRC whilst also runner impressive legs๐Ÿ”ฅ. In addition we collected lots of evidence that PRC know how to pose ๐Ÿ˜๐ŸคŸ. Amazing work everyone ๐Ÿคฉ!

If you are reading this report first, make sure to go on our page and check out what PRC got up to in part one!

All the way down in West Cork, Ruth W., Paul W. and Stephen M. took on the Rosscarbery Surf Turf โ€˜Nโ€™ Tar Half Marathon and 10k. This is a multi terrain race taking you on road, beach, trail and momentarily on an interesting pontoon estuary crossing. Ruth and Paul ran fantastic performances across the challenging route whilst Stephen flew around the 10k ๐Ÿ‘. All in all a lovely weekend away in the Cork sunshine for those three โ˜€๏ธ.

If you were on social media this week then I imagine you know that London Marathon took place on Sunday morning. We had four teal t-shirts on the start line ready for the iconic 26.2 miles. Jeff S. zoomed around marathon number 22 and even managed to snap a selfie with Joe Wickโ€™s along the way ๐Ÿ”ฅ. Rachel C. ran a fabulous time, and we are very proud to see how her training paid off in the race ๐Ÿ’ช. Despite missing her start wave (wouldnโ€™t be like her to not stop and chat), Ellen definitely did not miss the goal today as she smashed her marathon pb ๐Ÿ‘‘! Paul T. also ran an amazing pb at his 3rd marathon and 1st world major ๐Ÿคฏ. He said the atmosphere gave him such a buzz and we can say we are absolutely buzzing for him! ๐Ÿ”ฅ

Thatโ€™s us for this week. See you all next week when we catch up on what PRC gets up to this weekend.

๐Ÿƒโ€โ™€๏ธ๐Ÿƒ Race Report ๐Ÿƒ๐Ÿƒโ€โ™€๏ธ

Hope you all have your carbohydrate gels ready as PRC were BUSY this past week and we have a long report on the plan today.

Starting off last Thursday with race two of the Hill & Dales race series in Tullymore. We had 15 PRC athletes on the start line facing a 6.6 km route with 330 m elevation. Shout out to Rory and Richard H. who placed in the top 50 out of the 431 racers ๐Ÿ’ช. There were also some impressive age group placings with Rory in the top five of the MO AG and Rachel W. in the top 10 of the F35 AG ๐Ÿ‘. Based in County Armagh, our club is used to rolling drumlins, but itโ€™s clear more and more of our runners are keen on the steeper hills of the Mournes as our club was in the top five most represented clubs on Thursday night ๐Ÿฉตโ›ฐ๏ธ.

The Saturday sunshine reminded our runners that there is an (eventual) end to those cold and wet winter runs. We had five runners take part in the Almac 5k and 10k. Kamil ran round the 5k with two speedy sidekicks, showcasing how impressive racing runs in the family ๐Ÿ’ช. Mike, George, Wayne and Norma took on a second lap of the lakes to finish the 10k race ๐Ÿ‘. Special shoutout to Wayne who got an impressive sub-50min 10k on ๐Ÿ”ฅ. Well done everyone.

On the theme of 10ks, Jon K headed to Killough for the Shore 10k. What a beautiful day he picked to go running by the sea. Fantastic views and a fantastic time clocked by Jon ๐Ÿ”ฅ๐Ÿƒ. Super!

A few hundred metres above sea level, Rory and Jo Mac were competing in the Annalong Horseshoe. The 20k race covered five peaks in the Mournes and a total elevation of over 1700m ๐Ÿ˜ฑ. This was a very tough race but Rory and Joโ€™s strength and resilience saw them cross over the finish line with big smiles on their faces and cold refreshments on their minds ๐Ÿฅต. Impressive stuff.

Please go to part two (I told you this was a long one) of this edition of the PRC race report to hear about the rest of our weekendโ€ฆ
