Results from the past week.
Afternoon everyone it’s that time again where we look back on another full week of cricket which saw eight wins, four losses and a draw. So, let’s see who did what while enjoying a brew and the nations favourite chocolate, well mine at least.
Under 9s 2 Innings a side of 8 overs each starting at 200 runs.
Our Under 9s on Saturday morning welcomed Elworth who won the toss and bowled. Our first innings saw runs for Harry Scott-Wright, Spencer Seneviratne, Ted Roberts and Nikhil Pillai as we made 261 for 1 for a net score 256 and in reply Elworth made 233 for 2 for a net score of 223 with a wicket for Harry and a run out. In the second innings Harry top scored with 22 from 6 balls supported by Nikhil with 7 not out and Aaryan Nair with 6 not out as we made 264 for 2 for a net score of 254. Elworth in their final innings were restricted to 243 for 2 for a net score of 233 with a wicket each for Ted and Nikhil as we recorded our fifth win on the trot by 54 runs to keep us in second place and set us up nicely for next week against top of the league Rode Park.
Under 9 Girls 2 Innings a side of 6 overs starting at 200
Our Under 9 Girls on Friday night welcomed Porthill with us winning the toss and batting. Our first innings saw Pearl Podmore top score with 6 not out as we made 242 for 3 for a net score 227 and Porthill replied with 252 for 4 for a net score of 232, Lottie Mackintosh with two wickets and one for Lily Boult-Bates. Porthill’s second innings does not appear on play cricket due to the system crashing but there were a couple of wickets for Lily. Our final innings also isn’t showing but we did make 270 for 0 with some excellent batting which in the end secured victory by 65 runs. Another good showing sees us sit second in the league.
Under 11 Girls 8 a side and 16 overs starting at 200
Our Under 11 Girls should have been at Oakamoor, but due to so many unavailable this week we had to concede.
Under 11 Bears 8 a side & 16 overs starting at 200 runs.
Our Under 11 Bears team this week made the trip to face Wood Lane where they won the toss and stuck us in for a bat. Max Mayor made a solid 11 not out at the start of the innings and there were runs for Roshan Pillai with 8 not out and Matthew Fish 6 not out which kept things going nicely. Noah Mackintosh with 14 not out and Olly Mackintosh with 15 not out batted well and piled on more runs with Fin Matthias adding 8 not out near the end as we finished on 294 for 3 for a net score of 279. In reply Wood Lane’s scorecard is incomplete but they had lost four wickets with two for Vedith Nanjaiah and one for Fin with the scorecard showing we won by 99 runs. Great stuff.
Under 11 Panthers 8 a side & 16 overs starting at 200 runs.
Our Panthers team on Thursday made the trip to face Sandyford who won the toss and bowled. We didn’t make the best of starts as we lost early wickets which put us on the backfoot and by the time the last pair arrived at the crease, we had lost eight wickets and needed some late runs. Archie Wakelin and Kai Hartshorn obliged as they put Sandyford to the sword as Archie made 28 not out off 12 balls and Kai 17 not out off 12 as we finished up with a net score of 353. In reply Sandyford made a good start only losing one wicket in the first eight overs. After that though we took seven wickets over the next eight overs, Joshua Jackson was the best bowler on show with 3 for 10 from his three overs, he was supported by Callum McKinon with 2 for 5 from 2 and there was a wicket for Oliver Butler and then two late wickets for Molly Haynes-Martin as Sandyford finished with a net score of 323 which secured us the win by 30 runs. Great game and performance.
Under 13s 11 a side & 25 overs.
Our Under 13s on Sunday morning made the trip to face Newcastle B side with them winning the toss and batting. Kai Hartshorn took a much-deserved early wicket thanks to a good catch from Noah Mackintosh and Max Mayor made it 26 for 2 with a deserved wicket of his own. Our next wicket came with the score 79 which fell to Matthew Fish, Ethan Mason with the catch this time. Larry Turner now on for a bowl took our fourth wicket to make the score 90 for 4 and then Olly Mackintosh and Edward Goodwin took a late wicket each as Newcastle finished up 145 for 6. Decent showing for the majority of the innings. In reply we lost wickets at regular intervals, but Ethan Mason was in good touch as he made 30. Matthew Fish stuck around as he watched wickets fall at the other end, as we slipped to 62 for 7 and then 74 for 9 with five overs to go. Callum McKinon with 10 not out and Noah Podmore with 5 not out batted well and defended everything thrown at them as they dug in to secure a hard-fought draw.
Under 15s 11 a side & 20 overs.
Our Under 15s last Monday welcomed Wood Lane who won the toss and bowled. We made a bad start as we were reduced to 17 for 4 which is something we never recovered from despite Dan Convey sticking around as best he could making 11, with him being the only player to make double figures as we were all out for 62. In reply we made them work hard for those runs with Rian Waterhouse bowling well with 2 for 3 from his three overs, Tom Dalgarno took 2 for 2 from his two overs and there was a wicket for Dan Convey, but only defending 62 was never going to be easy and Wood Lane crossed the line in the sixteenth over despite our best attempts with the ball.
Phoenix Team 8 a side of 15 overs.
Our Phoenix team on Thursday welcomed Newcastle with us winning the toss and batting. Charlie Griffiths batted well at the top of the innings as he made 59 not out off 50 balls and he was supported by Tom Warburton with 26 from 17 and Martin Bryan with 23 from 16 as we finished on 119 for 3. In reply we made an excellent start as we took two early wickets which both fell to Ole Davies-Majer. Newcastle had reached 63 when Tom Warburton took two quick wickets followed by a third to make the score 73 for 5. Fin Waterhouse made it six down for 82 and then Warbs took his fourth to bowl Newcastle out for 83 and secure that first win. Hurrah. Warbs finishing with 4 for 6 from his two- and a-bit overs.
Ladies Team 16 overs/8 a side/Batters in pairs for four overs each.
Our Ladies team were in action last week against champions from last season Betley, who won the toss and put us into bat. We got off to a good start with Rachael Pillai and Becky Birkin losing just one wicket as they put on 15 runs. In came the Saive sisters next with Ellie and Daisy with both going well until Ellie smashed a ball through the covers that the fielder in shear amazement caught one handed, stunned silence all around. This moment of magic saw us lose another 3 wickets in the following overs with our next pair of Louise Mayor and Denise Shirley needing to stabilise things which they did with some great batting. Denise smashed one through deep cover and yet again the fielder sprung and kept hold of the ball, another amazing catch. We kept the board ticking over with 35 runs from that pair before great batting from our last pair Beth McGowan and Lizzie Gething kept the runs coming as we ended with a net score of 249. Denise making 20, Lou 11 not out, Beth 8 not out and Lizzie 7. When Betley came out to bat we knew it was going to be tough defending a small total as they had some big hitters in their side, we bowled well, kept the fielding tight and going into the last over it was close with Beth bowling superb with them needing two runs off the last ball…Beth held her nerve with a dot ball to secure a great win. Bowling saw Ellie take 1 for 10, Denise 2 for 6 and Beth 2 for 6. Up the Mighty Redbirds.
Saturday
1st XI 50 Overs & Win/Lose/Draw
Our 1st XI on Saturday made the trip to face Porthill 2nd XI where we won the toss and batted. Charlie Griffiths and Rich Walker gave us a good start and platform with an opening partnership of 70 with Rich first to go for 35 followed soon after by Charlie for 34, followed by another quick wicket to leave us 84 for 3 in the fifteenth over. Gamindu Kanishka now joined Tom Warburton at the crease as the two of them kept the scoreboard ticking over until the thirty first over which is when they put the hammer down as the run rate climbed. The start of the thirty-ninth over saw us lose Warbs for a nicely played 51 and the end of a good partnership of 124. Yohan Maddege now joined Gammy in the middle as the runs continued to flow with overs forty-three to forty-seven going for a combined 65 runs with Gammy bringing up his first hundred for the Club as he finished 112 not out from 119 balls and Yugie finishing on 38 not out off 28 as we declared at 294 for 4. Great batting performance, now for a bowl. In reply the first fifteen overs went by without incident for Porthill as they reached 50, which is when Yugie made the breakthrough. 50 for 1 soon became 65 for 5 with a run out for Martin Bryan, two more for Yugie and one for Gammy. Batters five and seven now developed a partnership to try and get Porthill back on track with a partnership of 65. Matt Johnson broke the partnership which was followed by two quick wickets for Gammy to make the score 131 for 8. The game wasn’t over yet though as Porthill continued to frustrate us with their number five and lower order battling hard. Yugie finally made the breakthrough with the score 188 and he wrapped up the innings to bowl Porthill out for 218. Yugie finishing with 5 for 42 from his twelve overs to make it a good day for him and Gammy 3 for 33 from his twelve, together with his hundred made it a brilliant day for him. Well batted Gammy and well bowled Yugie.
2nd XI 40 Overs & Win/Lose/Draw.
Our 2nd XI on Saturday welcomed Porthill 4th XI with us winning the toss and batting. We lost our first wicket on 26 in the seventh over which brought Chris Sheperd out to join Tom Blackwood. The two of them without much risk took the score to 117 when Shep was out for 41, followed a couple of overs later by Tom for 49 which made the score 122 for 3 which soon became 129 for 4 in the twenty ninth over. Skipper Liam Bedson played a couple of nice shots before he was gone for 12 to make the score 152 for 5 and we lost our sixth wicket with the score 168 in the thirty seventh. Martin Mason was our final wicket to fall for 43 when he was run out coming back for a second run, but not before he batted well to take took us to 193 which signalled our declaration. In reply with no Fin this week to take those early wickets someone else had that job and this week it was Liam Bedson who opened and took a wicket with his first ball. Chris Sheperd made it two down and then took our third with the score on 50. Ali Gething then took his first wicket soon after and then Adriel Felsinger got himself a wicket to make the score 60 for 5. The stubborn resistance of their opener was ended by Ali G with the score at 70 and then Adriel with another wicket thanks to a sharp catch from Shep at short leg to make it 76 for 7. Ali G took his third wicket which was then followed soon after by a wicket for Matt Amison and then the final wicket fell to Ole Davies-Majer to bowl Porthill out for 86 for a good solid win.
Sunday
1st XI 40 Overs & Win/Lose/Draw
Our Sunday 1st XI with a few players missing including a late injury meaning we only had ten, welcomed Stone, we won the toss and batted. We made a steady start with 26 on the board before we lost our first wicket which was Adriel for 11 followed soon after by Charlie Griffiths for 12. We then lost three more wickets before the score read 40 which included Gavin Felsinger for 11. More wickets followed with only Dave Griffiths offering any resistance with 25 as we were all out for 68 in twenty-four overs. In reply we took a first wicket with the score 44 and then another wicket with the score of 64 which both fell to Dan Forrester but that was it, as Stone knocked off the remaining runs for the loss of no more wickets. Moving on.
2nd XI 40 Overs & Win/Lose/Draw
Our 2nd XI on Sunday also with players missing including our captain made the short trip to face Silverdale where we won the toss and bowled. Silverdale made a steady start and had reached 47 in the sixteenth over when they lost their first wicket which was a run out for Euan Sheperd, and then we had a second with the score on 56 which fell to Delwar Hossain, which was his first for the Club. The score had reached 93 when we took our third wicket in the twenty sixth over which fell to Kamrul Islam and then the returning Calum Sheperd took the first of his two wickets which were both caught by brother Euan to make the score 136 for 5 in the thirty second over. Our fielding and bowling towards the end became a little ragged with Silverdale batting well as they made their way towards two hundred. We took our final wicket to fall with the score 187 which was a second for Kam, with the innings finishing soon after on 189. Not a bad effort. In reply 16 was on the board when we lost our first wicket and then a second with the score 26. With the score on 50 we lost Dave Shirley for 13 who had battled hard and then a fourth wicket which was Alfie Boult-Bates for 10. We lost another wicket with the score at 65, but then disaster struck with the score 79 as we lost three wickets without the score moving. Delwar was the last wicket to fall as he top scored with 26 playing some nice shots as we were all out for 101. Tough day with the bat for both teams, but there is always next week.
