Results from the past week.

Afternoon everyone it’s that time again where we look back on another full week of cricket which saw eight wins, four losses and a draw. So, let’s see who did what while enjoying a brew and the nations favourite chocolate, well mine at least.

Under 9s 2 Innings a side of 8 overs each starting at 200 runs.
Our Under 9s on Saturday morning welcomed Elworth who won the toss and bowled. Our first innings saw runs for Harry Scott-Wright, Spencer Seneviratne, Ted Roberts and Nikhil Pillai as we made 261 for 1 for a net score 256 and in reply Elworth made 233 for 2 for a net score of 223 with a wicket for Harry and a run out. In the second innings Harry top scored with 22 from 6 balls supported by Nikhil with 7 not out and Aaryan Nair with 6 not out as we made 264 for 2 for a net score of 254. Elworth in their final innings were restricted to 243 for 2 for a net score of 233 with a wicket each for Ted and Nikhil as we recorded our fifth win on the trot by 54 runs to keep us in second place and set us up nicely for next week against top of the league Rode Park.

Under 9 Girls 2 Innings a side of 6 overs starting at 200
Our Under 9 Girls on Friday night welcomed Porthill with us winning the toss and batting. Our first innings saw Pearl Podmore top score with 6 not out as we made 242 for 3 for a net score 227 and Porthill replied with 252 for 4 for a net score of 232, Lottie Mackintosh with two wickets and one for Lily Boult-Bates. Porthill’s second innings does not appear on play cricket due to the system crashing but there were a couple of wickets for Lily. Our final innings also isn’t showing but we did make 270 for 0 with some excellent batting which in the end secured victory by 65 runs. Another good showing sees us sit second in the league.

Under 11 Girls 8 a side and 16 overs starting at 200
Our Under 11 Girls should have been at Oakamoor, but due to so many unavailable this week we had to concede.

Under 11 Bears 8 a side & 16 overs starting at 200 runs.
Our Under 11 Bears team this week made the trip to face Wood Lane where they won the toss and stuck us in for a bat. Max Mayor made a solid 11 not out at the start of the innings and there were runs for Roshan Pillai with 8 not out and Matthew Fish 6 not out which kept things going nicely. Noah Mackintosh with 14 not out and Olly Mackintosh with 15 not out batted well and piled on more runs with Fin Matthias adding 8 not out near the end as we finished on 294 for 3 for a net score of 279. In reply Wood Lane’s scorecard is incomplete but they had lost four wickets with two for Vedith Nanjaiah and one for Fin with the scorecard showing we won by 99 runs. Great stuff.

Under 11 Panthers 8 a side & 16 overs starting at 200 runs.
Our Panthers team on Thursday made the trip to face Sandyford who won the toss and bowled. We didn’t make the best of starts as we lost early wickets which put us on the backfoot and by the time the last pair arrived at the crease, we had lost eight wickets and needed some late runs. Archie Wakelin and Kai Hartshorn obliged as they put Sandyford to the sword as Archie made 28 not out off 12 balls and Kai 17 not out off 12 as we finished up with a net score of 353. In reply Sandyford made a good start only losing one wicket in the first eight overs. After that though we took seven wickets over the next eight overs, Joshua Jackson was the best bowler on show with 3 for 10 from his three overs, he was supported by Callum McKinon with 2 for 5 from 2 and there was a wicket for Oliver Butler and then two late wickets for Molly Haynes-Martin as Sandyford finished with a net score of 323 which secured us the win by 30 runs. Great game and performance.

Under 13s 11 a side & 25 overs.
Our Under 13s on Sunday morning made the trip to face Newcastle B side with them winning the toss and batting. Kai Hartshorn took a much-deserved early wicket thanks to a good catch from Noah Mackintosh and Max Mayor made it 26 for 2 with a deserved wicket of his own. Our next wicket came with the score 79 which fell to Matthew Fish, Ethan Mason with the catch this time. Larry Turner now on for a bowl took our fourth wicket to make the score 90 for 4 and then Olly Mackintosh and Edward Goodwin took a late wicket each as Newcastle finished up 145 for 6. Decent showing for the majority of the innings. In reply we lost wickets at regular intervals, but Ethan Mason was in good touch as he made 30. Matthew Fish stuck around as he watched wickets fall at the other end, as we slipped to 62 for 7 and then 74 for 9 with five overs to go. Callum McKinon with 10 not out and Noah Podmore with 5 not out batted well and defended everything thrown at them as they dug in to secure a hard-fought draw.

Under 15s 11 a side & 20 overs.
Our Under 15s last Monday welcomed Wood Lane who won the toss and bowled. We made a bad start as we were reduced to 17 for 4 which is something we never recovered from despite Dan Convey sticking around as best he could making 11, with him being the only player to make double figures as we were all out for 62. In reply we made them work hard for those runs with Rian Waterhouse bowling well with 2 for 3 from his three overs, Tom Dalgarno took 2 for 2 from his two overs and there was a wicket for Dan Convey, but only defending 62 was never going to be easy and Wood Lane crossed the line in the sixteenth over despite our best attempts with the ball.

Phoenix Team 8 a side of 15 overs.
Our Phoenix team on Thursday welcomed Newcastle with us winning the toss and batting. Charlie Griffiths batted well at the top of the innings as he made 59 not out off 50 balls and he was supported by Tom Warburton with 26 from 17 and Martin Bryan with 23 from 16 as we finished on 119 for 3. In reply we made an excellent start as we took two early wickets which both fell to Ole Davies-Majer. Newcastle had reached 63 when Tom Warburton took two quick wickets followed by a third to make the score 73 for 5. Fin Waterhouse made it six down for 82 and then Warbs took his fourth to bowl Newcastle out for 83 and secure that first win. Hurrah. Warbs finishing with 4 for 6 from his two- and a-bit overs.

Ladies Team 16 overs/8 a side/Batters in pairs for four overs each.
Our Ladies team were in action last week against champions from last season Betley, who won the toss and put us into bat. We got off to a good start with Rachael Pillai and Becky Birkin losing just one wicket as they put on 15 runs. In came the Saive sisters next with Ellie and Daisy with both going well until Ellie smashed a ball through the covers that the fielder in shear amazement caught one handed, stunned silence all around. This moment of magic saw us lose another 3 wickets in the following overs with our next pair of Louise Mayor and Denise Shirley needing to stabilise things which they did with some great batting. Denise smashed one through deep cover and yet again the fielder sprung and kept hold of the ball, another amazing catch. We kept the board ticking over with 35 runs from that pair before great batting from our last pair Beth McGowan and Lizzie Gething kept the runs coming as we ended with a net score of 249. Denise making 20, Lou 11 not out, Beth 8 not out and Lizzie 7. When Betley came out to bat we knew it was going to be tough defending a small total as they had some big hitters in their side, we bowled well, kept the fielding tight and going into the last over it was close with Beth bowling superb with them needing two runs off the last ball…Beth held her nerve with a dot ball to secure a great win. Bowling saw Ellie take 1 for 10, Denise 2 for 6 and Beth 2 for 6. Up the Mighty Redbirds.

Saturday
1st XI 50 Overs & Win/Lose/Draw
Our 1st XI on Saturday made the trip to face Porthill 2nd XI where we won the toss and batted. Charlie Griffiths and Rich Walker gave us a good start and platform with an opening partnership of 70 with Rich first to go for 35 followed soon after by Charlie for 34, followed by another quick wicket to leave us 84 for 3 in the fifteenth over. Gamindu Kanishka now joined Tom Warburton at the crease as the two of them kept the scoreboard ticking over until the thirty first over which is when they put the hammer down as the run rate climbed. The start of the thirty-ninth over saw us lose Warbs for a nicely played 51 and the end of a good partnership of 124. Yohan Maddege now joined Gammy in the middle as the runs continued to flow with overs forty-three to forty-seven going for a combined 65 runs with Gammy bringing up his first hundred for the Club as he finished 112 not out from 119 balls and Yugie finishing on 38 not out off 28 as we declared at 294 for 4. Great batting performance, now for a bowl. In reply the first fifteen overs went by without incident for Porthill as they reached 50, which is when Yugie made the breakthrough. 50 for 1 soon became 65 for 5 with a run out for Martin Bryan, two more for Yugie and one for Gammy. Batters five and seven now developed a partnership to try and get Porthill back on track with a partnership of 65. Matt Johnson broke the partnership which was followed by two quick wickets for Gammy to make the score 131 for 8. The game wasn’t over yet though as Porthill continued to frustrate us with their number five and lower order battling hard. Yugie finally made the breakthrough with the score 188 and he wrapped up the innings to bowl Porthill out for 218. Yugie finishing with 5 for 42 from his twelve overs to make it a good day for him and Gammy 3 for 33 from his twelve, together with his hundred made it a brilliant day for him. Well batted Gammy and well bowled Yugie.

2nd XI 40 Overs & Win/Lose/Draw.
Our 2nd XI on Saturday welcomed Porthill 4th XI with us winning the toss and batting. We lost our first wicket on 26 in the seventh over which brought Chris Sheperd out to join Tom Blackwood. The two of them without much risk took the score to 117 when Shep was out for 41, followed a couple of overs later by Tom for 49 which made the score 122 for 3 which soon became 129 for 4 in the twenty ninth over. Skipper Liam Bedson played a couple of nice shots before he was gone for 12 to make the score 152 for 5 and we lost our sixth wicket with the score 168 in the thirty seventh. Martin Mason was our final wicket to fall for 43 when he was run out coming back for a second run, but not before he batted well to take took us to 193 which signalled our declaration. In reply with no Fin this week to take those early wickets someone else had that job and this week it was Liam Bedson who opened and took a wicket with his first ball. Chris Sheperd made it two down and then took our third with the score on 50. Ali Gething then took his first wicket soon after and then Adriel Felsinger got himself a wicket to make the score 60 for 5. The stubborn resistance of their opener was ended by Ali G with the score at 70 and then Adriel with another wicket thanks to a sharp catch from Shep at short leg to make it 76 for 7. Ali G took his third wicket which was then followed soon after by a wicket for Matt Amison and then the final wicket fell to Ole Davies-Majer to bowl Porthill out for 86 for a good solid win.

Sunday
1st XI 40 Overs & Win/Lose/Draw
Our Sunday 1st XI with a few players missing including a late injury meaning we only had ten, welcomed Stone, we won the toss and batted. We made a steady start with 26 on the board before we lost our first wicket which was Adriel for 11 followed soon after by Charlie Griffiths for 12. We then lost three more wickets before the score read 40 which included Gavin Felsinger for 11. More wickets followed with only Dave Griffiths offering any resistance with 25 as we were all out for 68 in twenty-four overs. In reply we took a first wicket with the score 44 and then another wicket with the score of 64 which both fell to Dan Forrester but that was it, as Stone knocked off the remaining runs for the loss of no more wickets. Moving on.

2nd XI 40 Overs & Win/Lose/Draw
Our 2nd XI on Sunday also with players missing including our captain made the short trip to face Silverdale where we won the toss and bowled. Silverdale made a steady start and had reached 47 in the sixteenth over when they lost their first wicket which was a run out for Euan Sheperd, and then we had a second with the score on 56 which fell to Delwar Hossain, which was his first for the Club. The score had reached 93 when we took our third wicket in the twenty sixth over which fell to Kamrul Islam and then the returning Calum Sheperd took the first of his two wickets which were both caught by brother Euan to make the score 136 for 5 in the thirty second over. Our fielding and bowling towards the end became a little ragged with Silverdale batting well as they made their way towards two hundred. We took our final wicket to fall with the score 187 which was a second for Kam, with the innings finishing soon after on 189. Not a bad effort. In reply 16 was on the board when we lost our first wicket and then a second with the score 26. With the score on 50 we lost Dave Shirley for 13 who had battled hard and then a fourth wicket which was Alfie Boult-Bates for 10. We lost another wicket with the score at 65, but then disaster struck with the score 79 as we lost three wickets without the score moving. Delwar was the last wicket to fall as he top scored with 26 playing some nice shots as we were all out for 101. Tough day with the bat for both teams, but there is always next week.

This week in our juniors our Under 9s are away Rode Park in a top of the table clash, our Under 9 Girls are away at Burslem Friday night, our Under 11 Bears are at home tonight to Norton-in-Hales, our Panthers are at Onneley against Audley and our Under 13s are away at Newcastle A on Sunday morning. Our Under 15s tonight are away at Audley and finally our Under 17s start this Wednesday against Woore.

In the seniors our Ladies are due to play Woore at some point this week, our Phoenix team on Thursday is at home to Silverdale. On Saturday our 1st XI is at home to Checkley 2nd XI with our 2nd XI away at Knypersley. Finally on Sunday our Sunday 1st XI is away at Moddershall to face Sport Asia with our 2nd XI at home to Holmes Chapel.

So that’s it for another action-packed week which saw many good team performances.

Thanks for reading.

Results from the past week.

Its fake Monday which means another week of cricket has come and gone which saw five wins, three losses, two draws, some abandoned games and we also have the report from the Staffs Megafest Ladies Softball Tournament. So put that kettle on, get comfortable and have a break, have a Kit Kat while we look back at who did what.

Under 9s 2 Innings a side of 8 overs each starting at 200 runs.
Our Under 9s this past week had a free week, basking in the glory of their four wins on the trot no doubt.

Under 9 Girls 2 Innings a side of 6 overs starting at 200
Our Under 9s Girls played on Friday night and welcomed Newcastle, they won the toss and bowled. We made 215 for 3 in our first innings with Beatrice Dalgarno top scoring with 6 not out and in reply Newcastle made 216 for 2 for a net score of 206, with a wicket each for Beatrice and Mila Sheperd which was her first for the Club. Beatrice in our second innings top scored again with 8 not out as we made 220 for 4 for a net score of 200 and in reply 224 for 1 for a net score 219 with the one wicket falling to Lily Boult-Bates which is her first for the Club as we lost by 25 runs.

Under 11 Girls 8 a side and 16 overs starting at 200
No game for our Under 11 Girls last week due to the weather.

Under 11 Bears 8 a side & 16 overs starting at 200 runs.
Our Under 11 Bears team on Tuesday made the short trip to Whitmore where we won the toss and bowled. Our bowling and fielding were very good with Fin Matthias getting things started with a wicket in his first over, followed by a wicket for Kai Hartshorn in his second over. Vedith Nanjaiah took a wicket in the eighth over and then later Olly Mackintosh got himself a wicket which saw Whitmore make 254 for a net score of 234 with a good, disciplined bowling display. In reply Olly Mack with 10 not out and Matthew Fish with 11 not out got us off to a solid start but the middle overs saw us lose seven wickets to put us on the back foot. Orla Bacon attempted to stop the flow of wickets with 8 not out but wickets continued to fall which saw us finish on 275 but lost ten wickets doing so meaning we had a net score of 225. Poor showing with the bat which is not something said very often about this team.

Under 11 Panthers 8 a side & 16 overs starting at 200 runs.
Our Under 11 Panthers were meant to be at Sandyford but the rain stopped that from happening.

Under 13s 11 a side & 25 overs.
Our Under 13s on Sunday morning welcomed Wood Lane, where we won the toss and bowled. Wood Lane got off to a steady start against some good bowling from us. The tenth over saw us make a deserved breakthrough thanks to Fin Matthias and a good catch from Edward Goodwin with the score at 41. Larry Turner seven overs later picked up our second wicket with a caught and bowled and the second to last over saw Edward get himself a deserved wicket. There was some good stuff bowled by everyone, but in particular from Max Mayor, Olly Mackintosh and Vedith Nanjaiah as we restricted Wood Lane to 112 for 3 with the bowling and fielding much better this week. In reply we lost a wicket to the first ball of the innings and then a second wicket in the eighth which brought Larry Turner to the crease. He smashed his first ball over mid-wicket for four and played in an aggressive manner with some nice shots. After six overs of Larry, he played one shot too many and was out for a well-played 25 off 20 balls to make the score 50 for 3. We then lost another wicket with the score at 60 and then with the score at 67 in the nineteenth over we lost Edward who had battled hard through most of the innings for 11. We then lost three wickets over the next three overs to make the score 73 for 7 and by the twenty third Olly Mack and Noah Podmore had arrived at the crease. The two of them comfortably defended everything thrown at them and even helped themselves to some runs as we secured a well-earned draw finishing 80 for 8. Good stuff and fought to the very end.

Under 15s 11 a side & 20 overs.
Our Under 15s had a free week this past week.

Phoenix Team 8 a side of 15 overs.
Our Phoenix team should have welcomed Nantwich but the rain on Thursday had other ideas.

Saturday
1st XI 50 Overs & Win/Lose/Draw
Our 1st XI on Saturday welcomed Stafford on what looked and played like a very tricky wicket, the opposition won the toss and batted. Dan Gibbs made the breakthrough in the second over and then Matt Johnson after beating the bat and off stump on several occasions finally had our second with a good spell of bowling to make the score 50 for 2 after eleven overs. The introduction of spin a few overs later instantly paid off with Gamindu Kanishka taking our third in his first over and Yohan Maddege taking his first the very next over to make the score 60 for 4 in the fifteenth. Stafford for the next fifteen overs tried to rebuild as we kept things really tight and it was Dan Gibbs who made the breakthrough, helped by a smart catch in slip from Dan Redfern to make the score 85 for 5, and then Gibbo had their other batter out who had hung around to make the score 88 for 6 in the thirty fifth over. Yohan took his second a few overs later and then Gammy in the next over made it eight down for 99. Any thoughts Stafford had for some quick runs late on were put to bed by Yohan with two wickets in two balls to bowl Stafford out for 104. We bowled very well on a wicket that helped with Yohan leading the way with 4 for 18 from nine and bit overs, Dan Gibbs 3 for 35 from nine, Gammy with 2 for 12 from ten and Matt 1 for 13 from seven. In reply it would be a tough chase on that wicket which was soon proven with the loss of two wickets inside the first two overs. Dan Redfern and Tom Warburton now came together and looked to get us back on track and for ten overs they did just that with plenty of overs in which to get the runs. The thirteenth over saw us lose Dan though for 12 and soon after that Warbs for 10 to make the score 30 for 4 and put us in a pickle. Martin Bryan and Gammy now at the crease inched us closer but we lost Mart with the score on 50 and then another quick wicket followed to make the score 51 for 6, which soon became 64 for 8 in the thirtieth with the loss of two further quick wickets. Gammy needed a partner to dig in and support and at this moment out walked skipper Dan to try and support Gammy. For the next ten overs there were no boundaries hit as both batters took ones and occasional twos to get us ever closer. The forty first over came round which saw us inch closer helped by a first boundary for eleven overs. After two more runs were added, Gammy required six for his fifty and the team three runs for the win. The first ball of the forty-third over saw Gammy skip down the track and hammer the ball over long on for six to secure a brilliant nail-biting win and keep us right in the mix near the top of the table. Top stuff.

2nd XI 40 Overs & Win/Lose/Draw.
Our 2nd XI on Saturday made the trip to face Whitmore at Market Drayton where the opposition won the toss and bowled. After ten overs we had made 29 with the going tough on what I imagine would be a similar track to what was played on at Leycett. As we just started to accelerate, we lost Tom Blackwood for 22 to make the score 43 at the end of the thirteenth. Chris Sheperd now joined Benj Shirley in the middle and the two of them kept the scoreboard ticking over as they added 68 for the second wicket which is when we lost Benj just short of his fifty for a well-played 48. With the score 111 for 2 in the twenty seventh over James Mayor now came to the crease looking to score quickly which he did as he made a quick 20 to help push us up to 150. We lost two further wickets in our hunt for runs including Shep for an important 62 with our innings finishing at 179 for 5. In reply there are certain things in life which are a given like Fin Waterhouse taking early wickets which he did in his second over and then his fourth over to make the score 38 for 2. Chris Sheperd now on for a bowl had success in his first over as he tempted their number three to go aerial through mid-wicket only for Merzo to produce a brilliant one-handed diving catch to make the score 51 for 3. The very next over saw Ole Davies-Majer join the party by taking a wicket to make it four down for 52 which signalled Whitmore to go slightly more defensive and as a result didn’t lose another wicket for twelve overs. Shep was the man to make the breakthrough and two balls later he was celebrating again with another wicket to make the score 90 for 6. Liam Redfern now took the crucial wicket of their top scorer to make the score 127 for 7 with two further wickets falling quickly to the returning Fin to make the score 130 for 9. Despite bowling seven further overs at the last pair our bowlers could not make the breakthrough and so we had to settle for a frustrating draw.

Sunday
1st XI T20 Plate
Our 1st XI was drawn away at Moddershall to face their 2nd XI and Hanford 1st XI in the T20 competition, the first game saw us win the toss and bat. We lost two wickets in the first few overs to make the score 15 for 2 which brought Tom Warburton out to join Charlie Griffiths. For just short of the next seven overs the two of them batted well as they moved the score up to 68 when Charlie was run out for 24 which brought Yohan Maddege out to join Warbs. The two of them added 49 very quickly with Warbs on the charge but in doing so was our next wicket to fall with the score 117, Warbs making a brilliant 70 off 44 balls. We lost two further wickets in the next over including Yohan for 14 to make the score 124 for 6. We lost a seventh wicket near the close as our innings finished on 145 for 7. In reply Ali Gething took a wicket with the first ball of the innings, but we had to wait fifteen overs for the next one with the score 129 which fell to Liam Bedson. The following over saw Tom Warburton involved in two wickets with a wicket for him and then a run out to make the score 130 for 4. The nineteenth over saw two wickets for Liam Bedson and then the final over saw Hanford needing seven to win but two wickets in the over, one another run out and one for Dan Gibbs saw Hanford fall short by two runs. Great game to watch as a neutral.

The next game we faced Moddershall where we won the toss and batted. We lost our first wicket in the second over and a second wicket in the seventh over which was Charlie Griffiths for 13. The next over saw us three down with the loss of Rich Walker for 31 with the score 52 for 3 in the eighth and then a few overs later we lost Dan Gibbs for 20. We lost a further three wickets over the next few overs including Warbs for 22 with our innings finishing at 108 for 8. Little below par but something to try and defend. Yohan struck in his second over and then Ole Davies-Majer had a wicket in his first over to make the score 34 for 2 in the seventh. Tom Warburton took our third wicket to fall in the eleventh and a few overs later Dan Gibbs took two in one over to make the score 91 for 5 in the eighteenth to give us a real chance of victory. Despite a valiant effort Moddershall got over the line off the very last ball which saw us knocked out. Great effort from the team over the two games.

Staffs Megafest Softball Ladies Festival at Fordhouses C.C
8 overs a side of 1 Innings each.
On Sunday our Ladies team were invited to play in the Staffs Megafest tournament to celebrate the start of the Women’s World Cup at Fordhouses CC in Wolverhampton. Our Ladies team representing Sri Lanka faced Penkridge Scotland in our first game with them winning the toss and bowling. We didn’t make the best start losing a wicket first ball, but our second pair got us heading in the right direction with Deb Warburton showing good intent with her first six. Our last pair scored 23 off the final two overs with Denise Shirley making 20 as we finished up 256 for 3 for a net score of 241. In reply our bowling and fielding kept Penkridge in check with Denise taking 2 for 9, Nicola Mackintosh 1 for 8 and Becky Birkin 1 for 4 as well as a good catch from Deb which saw us restrict Penkridge to 242 for 4 for a net score 224 and secure the win. Up and running for the day.

Our second match saw us take on our friends from down the road Onneley West Indies where we won the toss and batted. Amy Lawrence and Lizzie Gething got us off to a great start with 28 coming off the first two overs with Lizzie making 26. Our next pair of Becky and Emily continued that fine start by adding another 24 runs from the next two overs with Becky making 19. Our next pair Sue and Camila kept things going and then our final pair of Louise Mayor and Denise added 29 runs with Denise making 21 as we finished up 295 for 0 from our 8 overs. In reply we kept things tight with some good bowling and restricted Onneley to 243 for 2 for a net score of 233. Another good performance and second win accomplished.

Our third and final game saw us face Dunstall Ireland who won the toss and bowled. We had to bat well in this game against some good bowling, but we still managed 264 for 0 with Lizzie top scoring with 11 and Louise finishing the innings off with two fours. In reply we had to bowl well defending a lower score than previous games. We took two wickets, Deb with her first wicket and Lizzie taking the other and we bowled very well to restrict Dunstall to 259 for 2 for a net score of 249 to make it three wins from three. Fantastic.

What a day for our Ladies as they produced three brilliant victories which saw them win Team of the Day supported by family and friends who turned up in great numbers. Deb Warburton won Prosecco Moment of the Day for her first wicket, first six and a great catch. Big thanks to Dave Shirley as our official umpire. Thanks to Denise for her time and efforts over the last couple of years and thanks to the Ladies squad who have well and truly put Leycett Ladies on the map.

That is all for this week, the week started off slowly with the weather having a big say but what an end to the week. More of the same next week from all our sides please.

Thanks for reading.
Goodbye

08/06/2026

Results from the past week.

Another week has come and gone with the weather playing havoc with some of our junior sides over the course of the week, our seniors managed to get full games in which wasn’t always a certainty as we edged closer to the weekend. So, let’s get the kettle on, find yourself the treat of treats and let’s see what happened.

Under 9s 2 Innings a side of 8 overs each starting at 200 runs.
Our Under 9s on Saturday morning made the trip to face Alsager where we won the toss and bowled. Our bowlers in the first innings were in fine form as we restricted Alsager to 243 for 7 for a net score of 208, Reggie Roe had our best figures with 2 for 4 closely followed by Ted Roberts with 2 for 5 and there was a wicket each for Beatrice Dalgarno, Harry Scott-Wright and Ronnie Currie. In reply we made good progress in our first innings, making 256 for 2 for a net score of 246 with runs this week for Harry with 14 not out, assisted by Ted Roberts and Joshua Jackson who both made 6 not out. Alsager in their second innings were much improved as they made 250 for 3 for a net score of 235 with wickets falling to Joshua Jackson, Theo Porter and Harry. Our final innings saw us struggle to an extent, but we still managed 233 for 4 for a net score of 213 which gave us the win by 16 runs to make it four wins on the trot. Great stuff and so pleased for this team who had some tough times last season.

Under 9 Girls 2 Innings a side of 6 overs starting at 200
Our Under 9 Girls on Wednesday should have been at Silverdale but the weather had other ideas, and the game was called off.

Under 11 Girls 8 a side and 16 overs starting at 200
Our Under 11 Girls on Wednesday were away at Little Stoke with us winning the toss and bowling. Little Stoke at the break had reached a net score of 305 when the rain came and the game was abandoned.

Under 11 Bears 8 a side & 16 overs starting at 200 runs.
Our Under 11 Bears should have been at home to Woore but this was called off due to the weather.

Under 11 Panthers 8 a side & 16 overs starting at 200 runs.
No game last week for our Panthers as they had a free week.

Under 13s 11 a side & 25 overs.
Our Under 13s on Sunday morning made the trip to face Audley who won the toss and stuck us in for a bat. Ethan Mason and Max Mayor opened and after Ethan had played a couple of nice pull shots for four missed one and was bowled to make the score 14 for 1 which became 14 for 2 in the same over. Larry Turner now joined Max as they moved the score to 48 when Larry was gone for 17 in the ninth over. Edward Goodwin now joined Max as they continued to score runs easily. Max in the fourteenth over brought up his first retirement for the 13s by pulling a no ball for four and then we lost Edward with the score 93, followed by another wicket the next ball. The eighteenth over saw us lose two wickets in the over to make it 97 for 7 and we were eight down with the score 99. Archie Birkin now joined Oliver Butler in the middle who had been battling away as they kept the scoreboard ticking over, but with the loss of Oliver that brought Max back out to bat. The twenty third over saw Max add to his score with two fours and then the twenty fourth over saw us take 15 from it, but as we entered the last over and with Max nearing fifty, he was caught on the square leg boundary for 44 as we were all out for 134. Another good batting display which saw us make more runs this week than any previous week and what can I say about Max, batted superbly showing the temperament and maturity of someone far older, so much so that we forget that he is only nine years old playing two age groups higher. Simply amazing. In reply Audley got off to a good start and had pilled on the runs before we took our first wicket which didn’t come till the twentieth over which fell to Vedith Nanjaiah and then took a second one the very next ball with both wickets as a result of good catches from Edward Goodwin and Archie Birkin. That though was as good as it got with the ball despite some decent spells from Max and Ethan as Audley knocked off our score with three overs to spare. Plenty of positives again and despite the loss the team is heading in the right direction.

Under 15s 11 a side & 20 overs.
Our Under 15s should have been at Woore but this was cancelled due to that pesky weather again.

Phoenix Team 8 a side of 15 overs.
Our Phoenix team on Thursday were away at Silverdale where we won the toss and bowled. Silverdale from their overs amassed 199 for 1 with our one wicket falling to Fin Waterhouse. In reply our batters made a good go of it but it was always going to be tough a chase and we finished on 127 for 3, Dan Gibbs with 26 off 18 balls and Charlie Griffiths with 34 off 28 got us off to a decent start and then Tom Warburton added 47 not out from 37 balls with Isaac McDonald making 11 not out. Tough night but good experience for our juniors that are playing.

Ladies Team 16 overs/8 a side/Batters in pairs for four overs each.
Our Ladies team on Tuesday made the trip to face Rode Park where we lost the toss and were asked to bat. Rachael Pillai got us going with 11 not out, there was solid batting from Louise Mayor and Nicola Mackintosh with 6 not out each. Denise Shirley made 20 and our innings was finished off by Lizzie Gething who made 12 and Ellie Saive who made 10 not out as we finished with 294 for 3 for a net score of 279. In reply Lizzie Gething was our best bowler with 3 for 24 from her four overs but they were the only wickets we took as Rode Park made 324 for 3 for a net score of 309. Good effort against one of the better Ladies teams.

Saturday
1st XI 50 Overs & Win/Lose/Draw
The 1st XI on Saturday made the journey to face Cheadle 2nd XI in the first red ball game of the season, where we won the toss and bowled. The first nine overs went by without incident before we made the breakthrough in the next over with the score 30 which fell to Yohan Maddege and nine overs later, we had our second which was a second for Yohan to make the score 69 for 2. The twenty second over saw Yohan take his third wicket and then the next over saw Gamindu Kanishka take two in one over to make the score 75 for 5. Yohan then took his fourth with just one run added to really put the pressure on Cheadle and then with the score 93 they lost their seventh thanks to another wicket for Gamindu. Cheadle needed someone to stick around with their opener who was still out there riding his luck slightly and their number nine did just that as they added 48 for the eighth wicket until Dan Gibbs brought himself back on and after a few overs he had both nine and ten out in consecutive balls to make the score 141 for 9. Isaac McDonald a few overs later then finished the innings off as we bowled them out for 157 in the fortieth over. In reply Charlie Griffiths and Rich Walker opened and added 36 runs in the first thirteen overs when Rich was gone for 18 which brought Dan Redfern out to join Charlie. The two of them added 77 for the second wicket with Charlie next to go for a nicely played 44 in the thirty seventh over. We lost a third wicket with the score 133 and then lost Dan an over later for an important 55 with the score 141 in the forty fourth. Gammy with 14 not out and Dave Speakman with 6 not out saw us home for a comfortable win in the end. Top stuff.

2nd XI 40 Overs & Win/Lose/Draw.
Our 2nd XI on Saturday welcomed Stone 3rd XI with us winning the toss and bowling. Fin Waterhouse as he so often does had an early wicket and then Liam Bedson in the eighth over removed their other opener to make the score 42 for 2. Our bowling and fielding in these first twenty overs were a bit off key and as drinks approached, we needed a breakthrough which came just before drinks through Joe Tomkinson with a decent spell of bowling to make the score 94 for 3. After drinks we tightened things up with a much-improved display in the field and with the ball. Ali Gething on for a bowl took our fourth wicket but several overs now went by until we took a fifth which fell to Adriel Felsinger in a good spell. Fin Waterhouse returned to take two in three balls to make the score 155 for 7, he then had his fourth an over later before Adriel took his second and the final wicket to fall to see Stone finish on 171 for 9. More than they should have got but very chasable. In reply we got off to a steady start of 29 off the first ten overs and as we approached drinks our score was 61 when we lost Tom Blackwood for 31 followed soon after by our other opener Adriel who made 15. As we looked for quick runs, we lost two wickets in consecutive overs to put us four down for 78 in the twenty seventh over. That became five down the very next over. Matt Amison now joined Fin Waterhouse as they tried to up the rate, but Amo was next to go followed by another quick wicket to leave us 116 for 7. James Hopkin now joined Fin as the two of them took the score to 142 when Jim was gone for 13 with our innings ending at 147 for 8 with us having to settle for a draw. Not at our best with bat or ball but still undefeated.

Sunday
1st XI 40 Overs & Win/Lose/Draw
Our Sunday 1st XI was in action away at Newcastle where we lost the toss and were asked to bat. Charlie Griffiths and Charlie Blackwood opened and put on 69 for the first wicket when we lost Charlie B for 21 followed by another wicket on 79 and then the loss of Charlie G for a well-played 50 with the score on 95. Two quick wickets followed to leave us 105 for 5 and then 114 for 6 with Adriel Felsinger next to got for 27. With the score 128 we lost Ole Davies-Majer for 12 and after some late runs from Euan Sheperd with 10 not out and Dave Griffiths with 31 not out we finished our innings on 167 for 7. Decent effort in the end. In reply after ten overs Newcastle had reached 28 and it wasn’t until the score had reached 46 when we took our first wicket which fell to Charlie G with an assist from father Dave. Dan Forrester took our second wicket to fall eight overs later to make the score 94 for 2 and it was soon 98 for 3 with a wicket for Adriel. Adriel then took two wickets in an over to make the score 127 for 5 and then Fin Waterhouse made it 131 for 6 with his first. Fin’s next over saw him take our seventh with the score 140 but crucially overs thirty four and thirty five went for 26 runs which put them on the verge of victory and despite Ole Davies-Majer getting a late wicket to put them eight down it wasn’t quite enough as Newcastle got over the line with a few overs to spare. Decent effort and much improved from our last visit to Newcastle.

2nd XI 40 Overs & Win/Lose/Draw
Our Sunday 2nd XI welcomed Kidsgrove with us losing the toss and being asked to bat. We made a bad start with a wicket down after three balls and we were three down by the sixth over for 25. Another wicket followed with the score 40, another one at 58 and we lost our sixth wicket with the score 62. Dave Shirley’s stay at the crease was over soon after with him gone for 19 to make the score 77 and after two more quick wickets and some debut runs for new player Delwar Hossain our inning was over at 87 all out. Not a great batting performance. In reply we needed early wickets and not for Kidsgrove’s opener to pull anything too short to the boundary, but that’s what he did and 39 was on the board before we took our first wicket which fell to Zac Hartshorn and he had a second wicket with his very next ball. Three overs later Dan Convey had a wicket and then Zac had his third and our fourth to maker the score 67 for 4. But with not enough runs to play with Kidsgrove, soon crossed the finish line for the loss of no more wickets. One to forget for the team.
