Coaches don’t get frustrated with parents…well maybe the failure to reply to the ‘who’s available text’.
They get frustrated with misalignment.
The evidence in youth sport is clear:
Most tension doesn’t come from “bad parents” or “bad coaches”
It comes from unclear roles, mixed messages, and different expectations.
Here are the 5 biggest frustrations coaches consistently report:
Sideline coaching
Focus on winning over development
Unrealistic expectations
Poor communication
Lack of role clarity
None of these come from bad intent and the solution isn’t blaming parents.
It’s alignment.
When coaches and parents work together around the needs of the child:
Enjoyment increases
Learning improves
Dropout decreases
