You ever see that episode of The Simpson's where Homer is stuck at the power plant with the sign that says "DONT FORGET, YOURE HERE FOREVER"... and he changes it to "Do it for her"?

Yeah it feels like that.

We focused so much on OPTIMAL... that we didn't get it done.

Optimal is not always practical.

Imperfect action is better than perfect inaction.

Remember that.

Training has no age limit!

Jim approached me last month and asked me to teach him how to strength train - something he's never done before.

What a pleasure it is to coach him and help him learn new skills!

I think a lot of the time, we can put a lot of pressure on ourselves.

I definitely feel that was the case with Rob.

High pressure job, man of the house, not long off having a new addition to the family.

Trying to be the best dad, partner, friend, colleague.

Everything else was first. "Let's get this right first, then I'll work on myself."

It's easy to put ourself to the back of the list.

The odd gym session, some "pretty good" nutrition, and that "new dad sleep"... you know the one:

Broken, walking round like a zombie in the morning so we load up on coffee through the day.

With Rob, the main things that worked for us was:
✅ Regular comms to stay accountable and engaged with the process.
✅ Nutrition structure set. Meal by meal planned out to take away the thinking when his brain was elsewhere.
✅ Supplement around sleep because saying "get more sleep bro" doesn't work for Dads of young kids.
✅ Training had to be HARD. We prioritised machines so that failing on a rep was recommended, but also so that it was safe.
✅ He didn't pretend to know better. Sure, a pretty advanced trainer was Rob, but historically those who try to dictate their own programme and weekends/nights out etc are the ones who fail the quickest.

A steady approach was important for Rob l, where first we found his baseline, and then we pushed.

Now he's 10kg down in around seven months of working together 🤯👊🏻

So proud of this guy. A couple months downtime before we get back to work.

CLIENT SPOTLIGHT:

Someone who has been with me since day dot last year, and what a year (and a half) it's been.

Before joining, Alex struggled to lift past the 20s on DB Bench, but is now lifting 34s for REPS.

Plus now at his lowest weight in YEARS!

He's doing alright I reckon.

Alex is absolutely mint to have in sessions - whether it's footy crack or just overall hard work.

The 4pm sessions wouldn't be the same without him!

From strength to strength in all areas - squats, presses, rows. You name it, his strength has skyrocketed.

And that's with a trips to Bali, Greece, Barcelona and Copenhagen in the mix too.

Hell of a grafter. I appreciate you mate!

August was nice.

S**T CLIENTS 🤬

I've not done a rant in a while.

Absolutely winds me up when people say someone is a s**t client because they're not hitting their calories, following their meal plan or training plan, hitting their steps or whatever.

It's so ignorant to say "well you've only gotta do these few things".

As a coach, you should:
Divide the next few months into time frames and phases.
Create something that is applicable and manageable.
Not be so hesitant to change something if it's not working.

No amount of guilt tripping is going to make someone do something more if it's simply not manageable.

And then that's what there's starts to become resistance between coach:client.

Not all coaches are like the ones I've mentioned but fuuuuuck me, I've seen my fair share of them over my career

Being this funny can often feel like a heavy burden to wear... but I will wear it nonetheless
