⚫⚪ Match Report: U12 Milan Girls vs Team Gosforth FC ⚫️⚪️
A huge first step for U12 Milan Sunday Team, as the girls opened their league campaign in Division 6, having played in Division 11 last season.
We made the decision to jump five divisions because we wanted the girls tested, challenged and pushed and today they showed they’re more than ready for it. 👏🏼
Going into the game, we didn’t really know what to expect. The message to the girls was simple: play your game, trust the person next to you, work hard on and off the ball, and leave everything on the pitch.
The first half was a really good contest. Both teams created chances, the game was physical, and the girls stood up to the challenge brilliantly. They stayed patient, stuck to the plan and competed for everything.
At 0–0 at half-time, we made a change of formation to try and create more space and open the game up and it worked.
The breakthrough came from a corner. Wiktoria delivered a brilliant ball into the box, Harper won the header, the keeper could only parry it, and Bella was there to put Milan 1–0 up.
The second came after a fantastic driving run from Izzy, who slipped the ball into Maddie and, in typical Maddie fashion, she powered through and finished to make it 2–0.
From there, the focus became about managing the game. The girls kept the ball, relaxed in possession, opened the pitch up and tried to draw Gosforth onto them rather than forcing things.
Another really mature display from this group. Another clean sheet. And it was brilliant to hear the opposition parents praising the girls after the game. 👏🏼
A big step up in level, but a performance that showed exactly why we made the decision.
