Huge congratulations to the Newcastle Blayze Strikers, who represented Northumberland Cricket at the ECB Men’s National Tape Ball Competition last weekend.

One of 18 men’s teams competing at the national finals, the Strikers put together a fantastic run to reach the semi-finals – a brilliant achievement and a great representation of cricket in our region.

Tape ball and Street Cricket are an exciting part of how we’re growing the game across Newcastle, Northumberland and North Tyneside – creating more opportunities for people to pick up a bat and ball, play in different ways and find a route into cricket.

We’re looking forward to building on that momentum and creating even more opportunities to get involved.

Our free Street Cricket sessions give young people the chance to get active, make friends and enjoy cricket in a relaxed, welcoming environment — with no previous experience and no equipment needed.

We currently have sessions running at Excelsior Academy, Chillingham Road Primary, Stakeford Welfare, NUCASTLE and Dame Allan’s, with Callerton Academy and Western Primary coming soon.

Sessions are suitable for a range of ages and abilities, so whether they’ve played cricket before or are completely new to the game, everyone is welcome.

Good luck to the team representing Northumberland at the ECB Men’s National Tape Ball Competition in Blackburn this Sunday.

Newcastle will take on Leeds, Luton, Surrey and Kirklees in the group stage with games starting at 11am.

Run by the England and Wales Cricket Board, the National Core Cities Tape Ball Competition is an annual event celebrating fast-paced, accessible cricket and the communities at the heart of the game.

Best of luck to the full squad — we’ll be cheering you on! 🏏

From the boundary to the finish line - all in this week’s newsletter!

It’s a big weekend for our region, with thousands preparing to take on Great North Run events – including plenty of familiar faces from across the Northumberland Cricket community.

Back on the field, there’s still lots to celebrate too, with cup success, the final stretch of the league season and more opportunities opening up for people to get involved in the game.

Ready to take the next step in your coaching journey?

We’ve got a range of coach development opportunities coming up across the county, whether you’re just starting out, looking to gain your Core Coach qualification or want to build your knowledge in a specific area.

Opportunities include:

• Support Coach – a short introductory course for those supporting coaching sessions
• Foundation Coach – ideal for people beginning to lead coaching activity
• ECB Core Coach – for coaches looking to develop the skills and confidence to lead their own sessions and programmes
• Metro Bank Girls Cricket Fund Aspire Core Coach – a specially designed, subsidised course for female coaches and those working with female players, with a smaller cohort and additional time to put learning into practice

Go Jack! 🏃‍♂️🏏

We’re incredibly proud of Super 1s player Jack, who will be taking on the Junior Great North Run this weekend to raise money for Lord’s Taverners and help more young people experience the opportunities that Super 1s has given him.

Jack has been part of our Super 1s programme for a couple of years and says cricket has helped him build his confidence, use his voice and feel more comfortable around other young people.

In his own words:

“I feel very safe when I’m at cricket because my coaches are kind and funny. Going to cricket every week has helped me to learn to use my voice and learn how to be around other young people without getting too nervous.”

From attending every week and developing his batting and bowling, to going away with his teammates for a weekend and challenging himself to try new activities, Jack has come a long way — and now he’s taking on another challenge!

We’ll be looking out for Jack at the finish line this weekend, alongside the many members of the Northumberland Cricket community taking on Great North Run events.

FREE Girls’ Dynamos Cricket – four-week programme!

We’re inviting girls aged 8–11 to join us for four weeks of fun, friendly cricket this autumn at Duchess Community High School.

Running every Monday from 21 September to 12 October, each session will focus on a different cricket skill, helping participants build their confidence and ability.

Dynamos is all about having fun, developing a love of the game and making new friends in a safe and welcoming environment – whether your child has played cricket before or is completely new to the sport.
