Town Moor parkrun

Hi Everyone,

It is our pre-Great North Run event on Saturday and I am delighted to tell you that our volunteer roster is already full.

Just like last year, we are encouraging participants to come along wearing a Great North Run t-shirt from a previous year. We are going to select a year on Friday and the first 3 people who reach our start banner wearing the GNR t-shirt from that particular year will win a (chocolate based) prize.

I mentioned in a post last Friday that three running clubs have produced a special GNR running bib in remembrance of our Town Moor stalwart, Ed White. The running clubs will be distributing these bibs again this Saturday and they will be available to anyone who would like to wear one and remember Ed at the Great North Run.

Also, we will be joined by Brooks on Saturday.

Brooks will be bringing a selection of shoes for participants to trial around our 5K course.

We will also be joined by Brooks athletes Casey Clinger and Clayton Young as they complete their final shakeout before Sunday's Great North Run.

The shoe trial slots tend to fill up quickly so I would sign up soon.

And finally, a quick mention to our volunteer, Dai Davies who kindly donated the funds for us to get new finish tokens. It costs £40 to buy a set of 224 tokens so it would be great if you could remember to return your token to us after your run.

UPDATE : ALL THE SPARE PLACES HAVE NOW BEEN TAKEN

Newcastle College have a number of places available for the Great North 5k run next Friday.

The places are free but they are offered on the following basis:-

- the entry cannot be sold or given to someone else;
- you will go to the race tent to collect your number from the Newcastle College stand and to collect your run t-shirt;
- you will run as part of the Newcastle College Blue Wave (alongside Northumbria University)

Thanks so much to all volunteers and MARVELlous 616 participants at today's event #718 ... it was a breezy morning and well done to all of you!! The results should now be processed and posted on the website. None of the new tokens were lost ... well done!!

Morning All,

We are ready to go for the morning.

We have a full volunteer roster and a pacer roster that is just short of a 19 pacer. Contact us if you can fill either of those slots.

We will have the Foodbank with us in the morning. As usual, they would be happy to receive any donations you are able to make. They accept cash/card donations or would be happy to have any non-perishable food items/toiletries.

We will be using our brand new set of Finish Tokens for the first time tomorrow. Please don’t take any of the tokens home with you. They have cost quite a lot of money to replace.

A few weeks ago we lost 8 tokens in one week and this prompted us to introduce a new supplementary funnel which feeds participants towards the Barcode Scanners. This has worked well and in the last 4 weeks, we have lost just 1 token. As a result, the supplementary funnel will be a permanent feature at our event.

As you will be aware, Town Moor stalwart, Ed White passed away a few weeks ago. ED was part of the Great North Run ‘All Runs Club’ and the 13th September would have be Ed’s 45th GNR.

In rememberance of that, three local running groups have produced a special running bib which they are giving away to anyone who would like to wear one and remember Ed at one of the GNR events over the coming week.

You will find representatives of this group around the start/finish area if you are interested in picking up one of these rememberance bibs.

PACER WEEK

We have managed to fill the main volunteer roster very quickly this week. As Saturday will be the first parkrun of the month, we can open up a pacer roster.

Well done to all 598 participants this morning. Results went out by 11am, and Ali is now posting up his fabulous photographs in batches. If you spot any errors in the results please get in touch by email at [email protected]. We would also appreciate an update on the young lad who fell on Grandstand Road if anyone can let us know? Thanks to my wonderful gang of volunteers today who helped put on a smooth event.
Finally happy birthday to Steve who celebrated his 50th birthday on the Moor today.
