⛳️Durham Seniors League Update⛳️
This week saw the final game of the season for our Over 55s team.
Unlike last year, when we did the double by winning Division 1 and the Dunholm Shield Cup, this time we knew a point would be enough to secure our place in the division, following Seaham’s defeat to league winners Ryton.
• Michael Farrey and Ronnie Simpson got us off to a great start with a 2&1 victory.
• Dave Smith and Paul Fawcus followed with another 2&1 win.
• Jamie Robson and John Brown unfortunately went down 3&2.
• Barry Etherington and Tony Loadman then put us back in front with a 3&1 victory.
• Geoff Whing and Geordie Pratt lost out 3&2.
• That left myself and Paul Hedley with the chance to win the match, but unfortunately we got battered 5&4! 😂
Final score: Ramside 6 – Whickham 6
The draw was enough to keep us in the First Division, so it was mission accomplished!
A huge thank you from the whole team to Miah’s Indian Restaurant and JML Travel for their continued support throughout the season.
We'd also like to give a massive thank you to Garry Morse and all the Greens Staff. When you play these away games, you really appreciate what a great job they do at home — the grass isn't always greener! 😁
Whickham will be hosting the first 5-man team event for all the teams who took part in both leagues on Monday the 28th 0f September 2026.
Watch out next year… there could potentially be TWO teams!
Finally, a big thank you from myself and Ronnie Simpson, the team manager, to all the players and everyone working behind the scenes who helped keep everything ticking over throughout the season.
It’s been another great season, and we’re already looking forward to the next one!
