Meet our director and Business Development Manager - Elijah.

Originally from Nottingham, Elijah is a former elite sprinter representing England and the GB junior squad over the sprint distance of 100m. He dedicated his teen years and twenties to hitting the heights of elite sportsmanship.

Having worked in school for over a decade, Elijah was able to help young lads break the stigma of having to be strong just because your a man. Using all his own experiences of self doubt, not feeling worthy of anything and not feeling like he belonged anywhere, it gave the lads a safe space to open up and be vulnerable. This has become part of Elijah’s mantra that he lives by. It’s OK not to be OK. Many lives have been changed through this.

Since joining The Mental Shift, the one goal has been to provide as many opportunities as possible to the young lads of the Northeast to have a safe place they can express their doubts and be vulnerable. Together we can do more. Together we will do more.

We constantly preach the benefits of Muay Thai and MMA, but we don’t often talk about the other sports that young lads can participate in…

Rugby is an incredibly skilful but amazing sport that that offers the same benefits as martial arts: discipline, resilience, confidence, and community. 🏉

We had the pleasure of doing photos for a local rugby team in Leeds and what we witnessed was amazing - a team that didn’t give up, encouraged each other, and kept going till the final whistle… 🙌🏼

Theres something out there for everyone, you just have to look hard enough.

We are proud to announce that Ocean Davies has embraced the role as Youth Ambassador, at AVT MMA, for our Inside the Cage project in Leeds! 🙌🏼

Ocean is a role model within the gym, and has often been described as the gyms ‘big brother’. With a wealth of experience in MMA, his own personal struggles with mental health, and a drive to improve the lives of young people - Ocean is perfect for this role! 🙏🏼

Ocean will be on hand at AVT MMA to offer advice, support, and a listening ear for anyone that needs it; especially those on our Inside the Cage program. Ocean has already took this role in his stride and we’re excited for what the future brings. 🤞🏼

On 𝗧𝗛𝗨𝗥𝗦𝗗𝗔𝗬 𝟰𝘁𝗵 𝗝𝗨𝗡𝗘, you can expect an evening of fun with LIVE Karaoke, an amazing DJ host, and UV face painting, alongside an amazing selection of prizes to win in the raffle! 🤩

We have had an amazing start to the year and we couldn’t be happier with the work we have been able to deliver across Newcastle and Leeds!

We have:
✅ delivered 240hrs of 1:1 mentoring (480 individual sessions)
✅ delivered 21 Community Muay Thai sessions
✅ engaged 65 young lads through our services
✅ raised £17,000 in donations and funding
