Newcastle Mona FC delivered an emphatic bounce back performance at home as they cruised to a 4-1 victory against Cat Inn, gaining their first win in the league. The win was a testament to their dominance, especially in the final third, where they created numerous chances and capitalized on the majority of them.
The match began with Newcastle Mona FC asserting their authority right from the first whistle. Their intent was clear as they controlled possession and pressed high up the pitch, putting the Cat Inn defense under immediate pressure. It didn’t take long for the home side to break the deadlock. In the 12th minute, Newcastle Mona’s midfield surfer, Jake Lloyd , with a free kick in to the box the the Cat Inn goalkeeper fumbles the ball for Ben Glover to pounce on making it 1-0.
The early goal rattled Cat Inn, who struggled to string together meaningful passages of play. Newcastle Mona continued to dictate the tempo, with their midfield trio of Jake Lloyd, Aiden Cumberbatch, and Ben Glover bossing the central areas. Their dominance paid off again in the 28th minute when Ben Glover doubled the lead. The midfielder made a late run into the box to meet a perfectly weighted cross from winger Aiden Lloyd, slotting the ball home with a cool finish.
Cat Inn, however, showed some signs of life as the half progressed. They pulled one back in the 35th minute against the run of play through Mona error. A 50 yard pass back from Aiden Lloyd lost momentum on the edge of the box forcing keeper Bogdan to commit to the ball, the Cat in pounced on the opportunity reducing the deficit to 2-1.
Despite conceding, Newcastle Mona didn’t take their foot off the pedal. They continued to push forward and try to get a foothold in the game once again.
The second half began with Cat Inn trying to get back into the game, but Newcastle Mona’s defense, marshaled by center-backs Joel Smith and Ryan Coffey, stood firm. Any hopes Cat Inn had of a comeback were dashed in the 58th minute when Newcastle Mona scored their third goal. A quick counter-attack saw Aiden Lloyd drive at the Cat defence, being to pacey for the back line he is brought down in the box and a penalty is awarded. Josh Fox steps up and puts it to the keepers left, keeper gets a hand but it is made of popadoms and the Mona to 3-1.
With a two-goal cushion restored, Newcastle Mona played with even more confidence. They controlled possession and frustrated Cat Inn, who were limited to speculative efforts from distance.
Newcastle Mona put the icing on the cake in the 82nd minute when substitute Hamish Snape, who had only been on the pitch for five minutes, made it 4-1. , a loose ball on the edge of the box takes a wonder strike into the top corner, sparking wild celebrations among the home fans and putting an end to a 2 season goal drought!
The final whistle confirmed a well-deserved victory for Newcastle Mona FC, who were the better side from start to finish. Their attacking play was a joy to watch, and they defended resolutely when needed. This win puts them off to a good start in the league, while Cat Inn will need to regroup and address the defensive frailties that were exposed in this match.
