Very enjoyable night at Cwmtydu for some mid week club shore diving.

We had 13 divers out. The visibility was poor, but great to get a group together and go diving.

We struggled a bit with shore cover so thanks to Daniella and Jackie for dropping out of diving and doing this.

Good to have two of our members, Alaw and Archie, doing their first UK sea dives. Well done to one of our instructors, Barry, who did a second dive, so more members could have a go. We were a bit short of experienced divers tonight.

All in all everyone was very happy with their evening of diving and we concluded with a visit to the Bragdy.

More pool training tonight.
Lovely session in the pool with 15 diving, 4 surface cover, on a rainy June evening!

We met at 8.30 at the Glynneath McDonalds on Saturday, the lakes are close by. Max depth was 12m so ideal for drills, testing kit and generally going for a dive.

First open water dives out of the way for Matthew and Archie - well done guys.

Next week Dale onwards and downwards

Today a member of our instructor team did a presentation to Llanboidy Woman’s Institute. The topic was scuba diving in Wales.

The talk introduced members to BSAC - British Sub-Aqua Club and CSAC, as well as a little back ground to scuba.

Then explained about the kit we use to dive was explained and modelled by another club member. We had all the kit there for the members to see and handle.

It then finished but explaining why we dive in Wales. Giving information on the numerous wrecks around the coast, a taste of the marine life that we see, highlighting the work of Neptune's Army of Rubbish Cleaners and Seasearch - explaining how many of our members once qualified also volunteer to dive with a purpose.

Whilst none of the members expressed an interest in learning to scuba dive it was well received and there were lots of questions at the end.

It’s always good to share our passion for diving 🙂🤿

BSAC Wales Regional Coach Vacancy

Bore Da / Good Morning

I hope that this post finds you all well and hopefully heading out diving / snorkelling / boating and / or generally just having fun!

I began my role as Wales Regional Coach in early 2023 and during the past 3 and a bit years have had the great pleasure of engaging with many of you during that time. I wish I could have met you all!

It has been an insightful journey and divers, instructors and clubs in Wales really do some phenomenal things so well done and keep it going! Keep posting on these pages as it motivates and inspires so many others.

I have some additional new commitments and it’s time for someone new to take over this role, so if you are an enthusiastic Instructor and have free time and are interested in becoming the next Wales Regional Coach, please contact [email protected] to express your interest.

The support from BSAC is fantastic and you will have plenty of encouragement from other Regional Coaches and lots of opportunities to expand your own diving.

So, whilst I’ll still be actively diving and involved in my clubs, and will offer my instructing services wider when I can, I wish you all the best and a big Diolch / Thanks from me for what you have done, do and will continue doing. You are great!

Steve

As a club we lucky to have three rhibs for diving. It’s an old fleet but carefully tended by our Equipment Team.

On the right we have Cardigan Diver an Avon 5.8m with a Suzuki 115 engine. An older boat with a new engine and going like a bomb. The trailer has recently been renovated by a club member’s husband, John.

The middle boat is Teifi Diver a 6.3m with a 150 Mariner engine. Going well but the tube was damaged last week and it is waiting for the outcome of an insurance claim. Chris, one of our members has carried out a temporary repair which hopefully will work.🤞🏻

The left boat is Emlyn Diver a 6m Tornado. The trailer for this boat is being renovated by club member, Jon and a new engine is being fitted in the next couple of weeks.

So that is the fleet and hopefully back to full strength soon. This weekend doesn’t look promising weather wise but we are looking forward to some trips out on the boats.

We were back at the pool for training again tonight - lots of fingers crossed for some sea diving this weekend.

Tonight there were 14 in pool with Will, Chris, Nigel, Rod and Dave on poolside support.

A good night of training and members practice. These pool sessions are essential for keeping scuba skills up to date and progressing diver training.

🤿😎Club Trip Report - Plymouth 2026😎🤿

This year’s trip was a little touch and go to start with, after damage to one of the ribs on the Wednesday night, but not much stops CSAC from diving. The attempted boat repair failed, it was theoretically not possible in the timescale. For a full structural repair … patch internal, cure, patch outside it takes 48-72 hrs. So in the end just one club boat was used.

UK diving means a lot of rubbish dives for a few great ones. These were great ones. On the Saturday there were 6 club members diving, with three buddy pairs doing dive one and two buddy pairs doing dive two.

Day one’s weather was hot with low winds. Dive one was the wreck of the Persia with about 10m viz. Divers found plenty of metal (wreckage) as well as a plethora of curly wurly life. Dive two was Hillsea point rock, with an amazing 15m viz and even more amazing marine life. Dai and Dave apparently saw the biggest octopus they have ever seen, sadly no photo.

Apparently there has been no algal bloom at all this year off Plymouth, this is rare, no one knows why. But we were grateful! 🙏

Saturday was a night out at the Barbican for the traditional debrief and social meal out.

Day two, Sunday and the sea was a bit more choppy so there was only one dive. This was the wreck of the Scylla, which had 10m viz and was enjoyed by all.

Sunday’s debrief was at the Mount Batten Hotel. Before heading back down the motorway to West Wales.

The club have had a trip to Plymouth for years now, we even dug up a few historic trip photos. One member noted this was their 23rd Club trip diving in Plymouth!!

So as a club we are all booked up for next year, staying at the Mount batten Hotel and hoping for more great diving and comradie with diving friends.
