Greenham Common parkrun

Greenham Common parkrun Free weekly timed 5km run every Saturday on Greenham Common. https://www.parkrun.org.uk/greenhamcommon/

The event is being made possible through the generous local support of Team Kennet and West Berkshire Council and parkrun UK's national sponsors. Plus the support of Greenham Common Trust and Greenham and Berkshire, Buckinghamshire and Oxfordshire Wildlife Trust for allowing the event to happen. The Event Director are Jeff Bird and Roeland Mertens, but we will need volunteers each week to ensure

the operation of the event. Please email [email protected] if you are interested in helping out. Please Note: These pages are moderated where the Greenham Common parkrun committee feel necessary.

The results are up!

It was a lovely but very breezy morning and despite the strong headwind on the back 53 of you managed to a get a PB!

Greenham Common parkrun's reputation continues to spread far and wide and we had visitors today from exotic places such as Hungerford (welcome the (former) beginner Hares!), Wales and New Zealand (coming over all that way especially for us *footnote 1).

As usual a huge thank you to all the volunteers today, you made my morning so much more easier and enjoyable. You are the lifeblood of this event and without you there wouldn't be a Greenham Common parkrun.

Please consider volunteering if you can, it's hugely rewarding and it's scientifically proven to make you 11.34% cooler (*see footnote 2) and we'd love to have you!

Footnotes:
1) Well they technically didn't come especially for us, but we like to dream

For those who are interested, here's the entry link for the Highclere Castle 10k on Sunday 27 September.

Entries are strictly limited to 300, and about a third of this volume has been snapped up in the first two hours - so get in there now if you want to run this year. There is also a junior fun run. It's a really lovely event on the estate which is not normally open to the public.

Well done to the 363 finishers today, led home by the big two - Mike and Toby - who have completed an incredible 1185 parkruns between them!

The results were a bit tricky and had to be manipulated in a couple of places. Finishers between 215 and 247 might have a time which they don't agree with, so if that's the case then drop us an email and we'll sort it out. Also, Polly WEBB, if you happen to see this then get in touch as you had a duplicate token and so I couldn't allocate you a position.

Big shoutout- WHOOP, WHOOP! - to the wonderful Alison GLASSPOOL, one of our regular volunteers, who today marked her 250th run. She'll still be on this milestone next week as she's handing out the finish tokens, so be sure to give her a hi-five as you pass.

Other noteworthy achievements today: Caitlyn DAVIES (50), Charlotte UNSWORTH (25) and Sophie LAMBOURNE (25).

Huge thanks to our volunteers today, particularly George for stepping in to be timekeeper with zero notice. All our volunteers deserve our thanks, but our Duke of Edinburgh Award helpers are there week in, week out - so thank you all.

OK folks - sorry to post this, but I have been asking via Facebook and email for volunteers all week, and yet we are still looking for a timekeeper and number checker for this Saturday.

All we ask is for the 500 or so people who turn up every week to volunteer a couple of times in a year. That’s all it takes. And the truth is that over recent months we have been entirely held together by the solid efforts of our amazing Duke of Edinburgh Award youngsters and a few stalwart regulars.

So parkrun at Greenham Common will not be going ahead this weekend unless those spaces are filled this evening.

Thank you - Jeff

Well done to all our runners this morning! It was another beautiful (if warm) one. And especially well done to everyone who achieved a milestone or PB today. And great to see so many Newbury 10km shirts out in force!

As always I als want to say massive thank you to all our wonderful volunteers too.

As I said in my briefing, we have been struggling to fill all our volunteer roles over the last month or so. Without all our wonderful volunteers we cant put this event on week after week. So, if you haven’t volunteered over the last 8-10 weeks (or even longer than that!) please can you think about putting in a volunteering stint? There are multiple roles on offer (some allow you to run as well as help), so have a look at our rosta and please let us know if there is a role you’d like to do over the coming weeks.

Park run is literally run on volunteers, so without all our time every so often we can’t keep running it.

Thank you everyone and happy running! See you next week. 🏃‍♀️🏃☺️

The forecast for Parkrun looks great👍 🌞

In 'light' 😉 of this, please take precautions around the sun and wear / bring any sunscreen 🧴, hats 🎩and glasses 😎 with you. We're not having a James Bond theme, but if you are 'undercover' 🥸 then well done.

It may be worth considering bringing a drink 🥛 with you and also consider the welfare of any dogs 🐕‍🦺 you wish to participate with.

Hopefully see you at Greenham Common parkrun.
