Greenham Common parkrun

Greenham Common parkrun Free weekly timed 5km run every Saturday on Greenham Common. https://www.parkrun.org.uk/greenhamcommon/

The event is being made possible through the generous local support of Team Kennet and West Berkshire Council and parkrun UK's national sponsors. Plus the support of Greenham Common Trust and Greenham and Berkshire, Buckinghamshire and Oxfordshire Wildlife Trust for allowing the event to happen. The Event Director are Jeff Bird and Roeland Mertens, but we will need volunteers each week to ensure

the operation of the event. Please email [email protected] if you are interested in helping out. Please Note: These pages are moderated where the Greenham Common parkrun committee feel necessary.

What a beautiful day for parkrun! Hope you all enjoyed it as much as I did ๐Ÿ˜

Thanks as always to my fabulous team of volunteers - grateful to have so many from Newbury AC. They are looking for volunteers to help out at the Highclere 10km on Sept 27th. Either comment here if you can do so and we can pass your details on, or email in to us at [email protected]

Congratulations to Stefan Thiel and Helen Randall on their volunteering milestones! ๐ŸŽ‰ (Stefan 25th, Helen 100th) Happy birthday again to Harriet and Sam ๐ŸŽ‚

An extra special well done to Emily and Amelia (aged 6) who ran today 3 legged! They are raising money for the Oxford Hospital Charities and St Catherineโ€™s school and if anyone would like to donate Iโ€™ve popped the link below.

Well that was quite the soggy one! I know we all wanted rain but I don't think my feet will ever feel dry again! :)

First of all big thank you to all our volunteers, you are so awesome and you made my day so much easier.

369 of you faced the rain and absolutely smashed it today, setting 23 PBs! Runner milestones today: Emma Blackmore on 400, Sharon Weinstein on 200, Stephen Andrews on 100, Corinne Davis-cooke on 50, Nessie, Matthew and Norma on 25 and Ruth on 10!
We also had a volunteer milestone with our local legendary marshal Mike Hart on 50! (Photo from when Dame Kelly Holmes Official travelled all the way to visit us to get her picture taken with Mike)

How did you get on?

What a great morning for a parkrun today ๐Ÿ™‚, a bit cooler ๐Ÿ˜Ž after having some rain earlier in the week.

Hopefully you had a friendly experience with the local wildlife ๐Ÿ„, I hear some were close to the course ๐Ÿฎ

I'd like to particularly thank the volunteers today, ๐Ÿ‘ Melissa Hughes for organising an excellent roster for me๐Ÿ‘. And then to all those that helped with an incident around 400m from the finish. I don't know all the helpers but thank you to those that did (some are recognised under 'other volunteers') and to the wonderful parkrunners that took the faller to the minor injuries unit. It is a real credit to our community when people are looked after by new friends โค๏ธ

We also had our usual happy crew of friendly marshals, including one which stole the show in their new fashion parade ๐Ÿถ

We had Melody doing her 25th parkrun, John Hutchinson doing his 100th and the amazing Sue Ormiston doing both her 50th volunteer and 300th parkrun ๐Ÿ‘.

We also hosted visitors from Edinburgh, Milton Keynes and Essex, we hope you enjoyed Greenham Common parkrun today and hopefully see you again soon

Results are up, let us know if there were any issues with them and let us know how you got on today

Happy parkrunning ๐Ÿƒโ€โ™€๏ธ๐Ÿƒโ€โ™‚๏ธ๐Ÿšถโ€โ™€๏ธ๐Ÿšถโ€โ™‚๏ธ

Good morning parkrunners! ๐ŸŽฌ

We're at the midway point between last week's exciting episode of parkrun, featuring the wonderful Dame Kelly Holmes, and this week's episode - and who knows who might make a surprise cameo this time! ๐Ÿ‘€

But before we can confirm that this week's episode is going ahead, we have a few starring volunteer roles still waiting to be cast:

โญ First Timers Welcome
โญ Number Checker
โญ Token Sorters

We also have space on the cast list for a few more Course Marshals, a second Tailwalker, and a second parkwalker. These aren't essential, but they're always very welcome!

If you'd like to take your place in the spotlight, please comment below or email [email protected]๐ŸŽญ

We can't promise running royalty will be in attendance again this week... but we can promise the company of lots of lovely fellow volunteers in other starring roles! โค๏ธ

Lights, camera... parkrun! ๐ŸŽฌ๐Ÿƒ๐Ÿƒโ€โ™€๏ธ๐Ÿƒโ€โ™‚๏ธ

What a brilliant morning at Greenham Common parkrun. With our friends at Victoria Park back on this week, we saw a big drop in numbers, but those who came to the OG and best parkrun in Newbury were rewarded with a visit from the legend that is Dame Kelly Holmes !

We have wanted Kelly to come to Greenham Common for so long, particularly given its history, so this was a fantastic surprise.

Weโ€™re very grateful to you, Kelly, for generously taking so much time to speak to our runners, walkers and volunteers, and for having all those selfies! Enjoy the rest of your weekend at the festival!

Well done to all 318 finishers today, but particularly those who hit a milestone:

10: Grace Miller
25: Aaron Jones, Matthew Oberholzer, Nicole Philpotts, Nigel Jefferies
50: Sam Lyons
100: Peter Slavin, Liz Eastlake
200: Vernon Jarvis
250: Peter Jenkins, Neil Germain (former event director)
V25: Sarah Godwin, Katie Makant

And a massive thank you to the 34 volunteers who put this weekโ€™s event on for you. Could you help us next week? Please email if you can: [email protected]

Now share your photos, selfies and stories from today!!

Hi folks. We need somebody else to hand out tokens on Saturday morning, and one or two more barcode scanners unless you want to be queuing for a long time! It would be great if one of our quicker runners could scan after running. Please msg below or email [email protected]

Good morning! Our volunteer roster is looking a bit thin for this Saturday, so please let us know if this is the week you could help with timekeeping, handing out tokens, or marshalling the course or car parks. Many thanks.
