It is with a heavy heart that we share the sad news that Keith Butcher, “Butch,” passed away on Tuesday morning.

He was an integral part of the running of Fun Soccer since 1996, and without him, it would struggle to operate.

Every Saturday, come rain or shine, he was there with a beaming smile on his face, delighted to see past students and even parents he had once taught.

The legacy of grassroots football in Newbury is owed to his unwavering commitment and dedication to the community club he founded.

So many players have left Fun Soccer with a love for the game—whether enjoying football socially, joining local clubs, or even competing at a high standard. That is all Butch set out to achieve, and my word, did he achieve it and then some.

We are truly lost for words and are beginning the process of determining the next steps to keep this wonderful grassroots community going.

However, we cannot do this without committed club members. If you feel you could help in any way, please do contact us here.

We need commitment, which can be difficult for the younger generation of coaches due to full-time work commitments. Even the smallest offer of help could make a difference in getting us up and running again.

Until then we are postponing Fun Soccer and will update you further once we have found the right time to all meet.

Happy New Year! Unfortunately, we have to cancel this weekend's Fun Soccer as Butch is unwell. We will be back up and running once we are in a better position. We will keep you all updated. We aim to be back on Saturday 17th January.
