LEAGUE TABLE UPDATE - FINAL STANDINGS ‼
Whilst AFYFC Div 2 & DDYFA Div 1 have been done & dusted for a few weeks now, there was a final fixture played out this morning to complete our 2023/24 Division One League Table - AM Soccer would be defeated 6-2 by Blue Brazil, but had already been crowned champions.
For our Sky Blues, it’s been a challenging season with trying to put a squad together being the only dominating theme towards the end of the season.
Players leaving, general availability and long-term injuries reached the point of not being unable to physically field a team with little available players & no goalie – we’d forfeit 6 points in the league & be punished a further 3 points fine by the league committee, seeing us drop down to an eventual 5th spot.
It wasn’t all ‘doom & gloom’ though and we played some great football along the way, scored some cracking goals, and won & lost together as a team – Competitively we’d win 22 matches, draw 2, as well as pick up 8 defeats across the season – overall, another good season for the team, playing well competitively, as well as reaching the latter stages of several cups, including the League Cup Final.
Elsewhere, our fellow Perth teams seemed to follow the same fate, player numbers playing a key role: Fair City would finish rock bottom of Division 2 on a minus-points total.
In the Dundee Region, Dundee West Royals folding at the end of last season brought an end to their dominance, allowing DUSC & Ferry Athletic to fight it out for the league title – the latter crowned champions by 4-pts. At the opposite end of the table, fellow Perth team Scone Thistle would finish second but last, having been promoted from Division 2 last season.
Well done to everyone, no matter where they finished – and of course, congratulations to the teams who won their respective cups & leagues.
