Busy times leading up to Bah Humbug Time. Drysuit neck and cuff seal replacements for both sea-kayakers and freshwater "bouncers" and a neoprene boot swap from and older diving drysuit onto a not-quite-so-old diving drysuit (neoprene boots are becoming like men's teeth these days. Zero stocks of size 42 anywhere).
Vehicle repairs too, oil change/servicing on a Transit, nearside door sills welded in (inner and outer sills, I fabricated the complex shaped inner sill from galvanised sheet steel). A Dacia Duster came in with no heater fan... that's not good in this weather. Having no gas in the AC wouldn't have helped, but a new heater motor resistor brought the motor back to life tho.
I was also asked to locate and hopefully repair a leaky roof on a Talbot motorhome that has "supposedly" been repaired (and paid for...). However, when that chap had removed the gas heater (and fitted a CDH instead) he'd slackened off the chimney, but never removed it. Rain simply poured in round the non-existant seal now!
To make matters worse, the CDH (Chinese diesel heater) refused to work. It's control panel had developed a fault. A replacement control system is on order and will be fitted ASAP. Lits more work is required on that MH, but we'll get it dry and warm first.

It has been quite a busy and varied time of late. I took a short ( ok, long... two week) break away to a couple of the Western Isles and parts of Scotland. A circum-navigation of both Skye and Mull, then a re-routed sojourn to my favourite spot on the Ardnamurchan Peninsula. I even got caught up (literally) in Storm Amy when driving home on the Saturday, dodging fallen trees, powerlines and telegraph poles and even had to stop and climb up onto my Transit roof to unhitch a comms cable that had caught itself on my woodstove chimney due to its snapped pole taking the line across the road.
Anyway, back to work and boy, how varied has that been... drysuit repairs, sorting out a vanlifer's solar and battery woes (poorly fitted by the previous owner), fixing ill-fitting sliding door on the same van, diagnosing and fixing poorly stop/start battery on a local business owners car, arranging the replacement of faulty electrical isolators in another outlet, further augmenting/improving my own van's woodstove, welding/replacing the long, sliding door sill on another Transit, fitting a new solar power system to a tinyhouse build and fitting a trace heating system to my outdoor water pipes.
Variety, truly is the spice of life!

Wow! That was one very hot day!
Yesterday evening I finished the day attending to "a smell of gas in the cupboard" on a newly fitted out campervan ( not one of mine, I have to say). A quick spray with leak detector and a quick tightening of the offending gland and we're back on track and leak free.
After working all day on the finishing aspects of the campervan I've been converting for a client, I had a look at the Bauer Oceanus 300bar High Pressure Breathing Air Compressor the owner brought in from Inverness. Its all working as it should now. I even tested it with a fill of one of my own 15l cylinders... 😉
I also managed to spray paint the new wings for the Transit, after sanding down the atrocious priming coat they came with! Wow!

It's been a bit busy here!
Campervan builds ongoing (nearly completed), Dacia Duster in for diagnostics and a faulty injection replacement, my Renault Master campervan sold to a new vanlifer, my own Transit brokedown as I was trying to escape for a short break... turns out, after dropping the tank to fit a new in-tank fuel pump, that the breakdown was simply due to faulty/corroded connectors in the fuse and relay box. Pah!
Yesterday, I had a Bauer Oceanic, petrol compressor come in from Inverness, for investigation and repair. It's not providing 300bar...

I've been somewhat neglecting this page over the past couple of years, mainly down to working in some "sensitive/secretive" places.
However, I am now back working in my own yards and workshops more frequently (and freely) repairing and building (rebuilding, in one particular case) campervans and repairing drysuits for paddlers and divers once again.

Oh boy! Nearly got away with it, but no, it got me!
Three weeks ago I felt rubbish after working with a colleague on a construction job. I decided to take a test and back it came, positive (same for him). Bleugh! Oh well, it's just as well I have work to do around my yard otherwise I'd go slightly mad(der). All became good in respect of testing negative after two weeks, but it has left a legacy of continued unwell feeling and breathlessness after even short, medium activity. Pah! I'm feeling my age these days...
Anyway, always look on the brightside of life... I've sold on my wee campervan, to a very happy new owner, managed to do more bodywork repairs to my new(er) campervan, the inside conversion I'd coming along nicely too. Other works have included repairing a pressure washer back to full health after it was left out in the winter and froze the high pressure delivery outlet, repaired a carpet washing machine from the same owner, replaced the wonky front and rear suspension on a Landrover Defender 110 camper, including welding on new spring mounts.
A few other jobs had to be postponed and rescheduled, namely fitting a diesel heater and leisure battery to a VW campervan and some polytunnel dis-assembly work over on the West Coast. These will be sorted shortly, but I must remember to pace myself these days. Hmm!

Bust, busy, busy! Here's a fairly large selection of photos of the recent work I've been carrying out. Stair tread replacement, Stihl saw bigend replacement on a TS410 stonecutter (this is what happens when you don't use the water system to keep dust down), pipework insulation fitting in a chemical plant, towbar fitting (including electrics) on a Combo, lifting out the hydraulic wheelchair lift from my own new van that's going to be a useful camper, lifting out the huge steel framework that the seats were bolted onto...there's over 350kg that's been removed from that van now!
There was another "work away job" (at a military base) that photography was not permitted on so no pics of that one. 😐
Work continues space on a Fiat Doblo that's becoming a "weekender" camper too.

An interesting way to end the day... re-fitting the sliding side door to one of my campervan customers. They'd parked in the only place available, on quite a slope, and the young occupant opened the side door which ran away from her as she hung on for dear life, then it crashed off the buffer and came completely of its rails! Luckily it was caught before the door fell to the ground, as a younger soul was in the line to be flattened!
A phone call to me, in the middle of removing the suspension on a Skoda on the ramps, and an hour or so later, the door was back in place and fully functioning again. It seems counter intuitive to have to take the door apart in order to refit it... but it's all done and the owner can now take her young wards back home, with a story to tell. 😊

Where have I been these past few months? Building this from scratch...
It's for a fulltime van dweller. Now retired and looking outward. It was handed over this evening.
