Our Ladies Reserves are currently recruiting for a Manager/Coach to lead the team for the new season.

Details as follows:-

Promoted to NGLFL Division 2, this is an exciting opportunity to help strengthen our player pathway and support the next group of players progressing through the club.

We’re looking for someone committed to developing the team, building confidence and helping players continue to improve throughout the season. The role will also involve working closely with our First Team Managers & Coaches to help create a clear pathway between the Reserves and First Team.

⚽ Matchdays: Sundays AM/PM, depending on the fixture

FINE MARGINS AS BLACKSTONES WIN A TOUGH CONTEST @ STAMFORD

A good summary after today's game, was given by Newark's PR man, Craig Mountney,
"ninety minutes and it's Ground-Hog day, as the blues play some good football but frustratingly we leave with nothing again.

It was a glorious day for football, sunshine, with a few clouds, no breeze and a green grass playing surface.

Blackstones wore, green & white shirts, black shorts, with green socks. For Newark it was the away pink kit.

In this fixture last season, Blackstones, who are known as the "The Stones,"
beat the blues 4-3.

Before today's kickoff The Stones sat in 16th place, whilst Newark were 10th.

Unfortunately Craig's summary was accurate, a game that was even until the third goal scored by Blackstones, and then it was pretty much Newark for the remaining twenty minutes, who had the majority of possession and created a number of chances, a period of time in which passes from the pinks were kept on the grass, seemingly more productive than many of the hopeful high-balls played earlier in the game by Newark.

The long ball of course did work on occasions and created chances for the pinks but key to that was, the early ball, and of course players who had created sufficient space, so as to receive those passes in good time.

The blues were attacking in numbers but often into, a solid crowded, green-line of defence, especially so, inside the packed penalty area, and therefore, often, releasing any decent final pass, finding a player in space, proved difficult.

As a consequence of their attacking in numbers style, on a couple of occasions, the pink-line of defence, looked stretched and vulnerable, to the speedy green counterattacks.

Town should have taken the lead on 10 mins, after a curling well weighted left-footed, high ball, was played into the penalty area by Brad McGregor, Nelson Aideyan, jumped to head but his effort was just wide of the far post.

On 11 minutes a break on the right for The Stones and their No 7 his resulting diagonal pass bounced awkwardly into the penalty area, where Rufus Brooks, was waiting to push the ball home, from short range
1-0.

On 17 minutes Newark equalised, some good work in central midfield by Josh Barrett who made, under pressure, a lovely pass wide to Lewis Smalley, who had found space, he curled a well weighted cross The Stones's central -defender, attempted to deal with the downward trajectory of the ball, but spliced it, with his foot, in an attempted clearance, unlucky for him, the ball spun and lopped over his own head, allowing
Ryan Rushen to jump to finish at the back post 1-1.

Frantic end-to-end stuff but all equal at halftime.

Seven minutes into the second half the Stones's, Josh Sennett, received the ball out wide on the left, he ran ten yards towards the penalty area then cut inside and fired, an accurate curling shot into the top of the net, at the far post. A great goal 2-1.

On 67 minutes a cross and a looping header by Rufus Brookes for his second of the game 3-1.

Another good game was had by the young Newark keeper, Haydon McCarthy, who made a number of fine saves and seems to be growing in confidence as he now can be heard shouting instructions to his defence.

With seven minutes of the 90 remaining Toby White fired a ball 20 yards wide to Brad McGregor who did well to keep the ball in play, he pushed the ball forward, running at a defender, before making a short pass, to Josh Barrett, who ran at the defence with pace, he released a right footed curling shot from 19 yards out that slotted perfectly into the top of the net, at the far post 3-2.

With minutes remaining it appeared Newark might get a point but despite their best efforts to salvage a draw, it wasn't to be.

Overall, Blackstones deserved their victory and the three points but arguably Newark perhaps deserved more for their efforts but credit must be given to the strong green-defence that held out against a number of attacks from Newark.

After today's game Newark drop three places to 13th, whilst Blackstones, remain 16th. Early days yet, for the league, six games played, 28 remaining.

Manager Luke Parsons, commented after Wednesday evenings defeat against Sherwood Colliery that, football, often can be described as, the difference between fine-margins, and so it was again, at Stamford.

It's been said perhaps too often, already this season, Newark look a quality outfit with talented players therefore, better results should follow but meantime, patience might be necessary.

After the final whistle, Newark's own Craig Mountney, also commented,
"Form is temporary class is permanent" Hopefully Newark's class, will shortly turn those small-margins back into winning ways.

Next Saturday 12th September 3pm, Newark have been drawn to play at home, in the first round of the FA Vase, against Lutterworth Town AFC. Like Newark, they are a Step 5 side and play in the Division South of the United Counties Premier League, where they currently sit in 8th place.

Newark Town v Sherwood Colliery FC, Wednesday 02 September 2026, kickoff 745pm @ YMCA Newark

NEWARK WERE LOST IN THE WOOD

Last Saturday, Newark were well beaten in the cup at St Neots. The blues were missing a couple of their regular-defenders and faced a good team. However, despite the torrential rain, they played attractive football, and most importantly, created several chances, against a side, who last season, were playing at the higher Step 4 level.

This season there are eighteen teams, including Newark in the Northern Premier League, seven, like Sherwood, are from, former, coal mining communities.

Tonight's visitors, play their home matches at Debdale Park, owned and operated by the Clubs, associated sports and social. Their former-chairman, now vice-chair, Gareth Bull won £40 million in the lottery. Not necessarily because of ground ownership or availability of income, Sherwood Colliery, were promoted and played at the Step 4 level, during the 2024-2025 season.

Before tonight's kickoff Newark sat in 8th place and Sherwood 15th.

Sherwood or "The Wood" as they are known, finished second in the league, last season. And, only eleven days ago, defeated last season's league champions, Boston Town, now Step 4, in the FA Cup.

Newark finished fifth last season and because Sherwood finished second, they were drawn to play each other, in the semi-finals, of the promotion playoffs. Luke Parson's men, against the-odds, were victorious that day, by a single goal, scored by Harry Allcock. However, tonight, The Wood, took their revenge.

From the kickoff an exciting game that continued in that fashion almost to the final whistle. Two neutrals were watching, to report on Sherwood team's performance, they were watching on behalf of Gainsborough Trinity, as they are to face The Wood, on Saturday, in the FA Cup. After the game, they said, they were impressed with the quality of the football played by both sides and indicated they considered that their team, Gainsborough Trinity, who play at Step 3 level, will face a tough match on Saturday.

Sherwood's recent signing, Ronnie Kokkinos, was arguably man-of-the-match, a player who has played in League One and in the EFL (league) cup for Mansfield, was outstanding tonight, playing from midfield, on 8 minutes, a pass made to that 20 year-old ,No 8, crowned only last season, as Mansfield Town's Academy u19s player of the season, allowed him to dribble at ease past two defenders then to make a delicately weighted forward pass to the feet of Nathaniel Wilson, in the penalty area, who neatly finished 0-1

On 48 minutes Luke White, controlled a waist-high ball on his thigh and then made a square pass to Brad McGregor who's hard left-foot shot, from 21 yards, luckily for the blues took a deflection 1 -1.

Harvey Grice, had another good performance and scored Newark's second, on 57 minutes 2-1, after some lovely accurate passing between Luke White, and Harry Allcock, Harry's forward pass, was threaded like a needle through The Wood's defence to the foot of Grice, who cleverly put it wide of the advancing keeper.

Newark, started the second half, with some considerable purpose, on the offensive, and it appear to be a right decision as the blues had most of the possession and played the better football, in fact they held the lead for 22 minutes, until on the 79 minute, that man himself, Ronnie, appeared again at the edge of the blues-box and fired a left-foot shot that took a cruel deflection off a blue defender, allowing Ethan Wiesztort to fire-high into the net, from close-range 2-2.

The Wood, were awarded a penalty for a handball, no complaints, on 86 minutes put home firmly by Jordan Preston, 2-3,

In the third minute of injury time, another goal for Sherwood, was well taken from 12 yards out, by David Olatomide 2-4.

Sherwood are certainly a good side, and tonight their man, Ronnie, was key to the demise of the blues.

Early last season, many had predicted The Wood were likely promotion contenders, perhaps not just because of their available funding but also at that time, the quality of their squad, having the previous season, as mentioned, experienced a spell in a league higher, playing Step 4 football.

Looking at The Wood tonight, there would be very few, willing to pay-odds against Sherwood not being up there for promotion or thereabouts, at the end of this season.

Another defeat for the blues, but another game in which players performed well, individually and pleasingly as a team. The quality and potential is apparent, so hopefully better days for Newark, are to come.

On Saturday, the blues, face Blackstones FC, in Stamford. Last season, this league fixture, resulted in a 4-3 defeat for blues. Let's get behind the blues on Saturday and cheer them on to victory.

If victorious on Saturday the blues fans might celebrate by taking home, a famous Melton Mowbray's pork pie, stilton cheese or a bottle or two, of ale from Everards brewery or perhaps even better the 3 points.
