NLD U16 GIRLS' PDG – Applications Closing Soon

A quick reminder to all players wishing to trial for the NLD U16 Player Development Group (PDG) — applications close on Friday 28 August 2026.

If you’re interested in being part of the programme and haven’t submitted your application yet, now is the time to get your application in.

Please note: Once applications close on 28 August, we will not be accepting any further applications.

We’re looking forward to seeing lots of talented young players at the trials and welcoming the next group of NLD girls.

If you're passionate about developing your rugby and challenging yourself in a high-performance environment, we'd love to hear from you!

Assessment sessions will be held on:

📅 Tuesday 22nd September
Venue to be confirmed.

Players are encouraged to attend as many assessment sessions as possible to give coaches the best opportunity to see them in different training environments. A minimum of two assessment sessions is required to be considered for selection.

(L-R) Joe Bunting (Matlock), Coel Gosling (Scunthorpe) and Yaw Afirifah- Mensah (West Bridgford) have all featured in the Midlands under 20 development days and match days this season.

They featured in matches where The Midlands beat the South West and London South East. Great news for NLD clubs. Matt Derbyshire of Melbourne RFC has been heavily involved in the Midlands player development pathway for 2026.

Yaw has also been selected in the England under 20 counties squad to play the combined forces under 23 in July. A true honour!

Rugby Family – We Need to Come Together for Warren

On Friday 5th June, 18-year-old Warren was involved in a serious road traffic accident as a pedestrian, suffering life-changing injuries.

Warren is currently being cared for at Queen's Medical Centre in Nottingham, where he has undergone multiple surgeries and remains under close observation in the Intensive Care Unit.

Many of you will know Warren through rugby. He played his junior rugby at Paviors Rugby Club before moving on to play senior rugby at Ollerton Rugby Club. He is a much-loved member of the rugby community, and right now he needs our support more than ever.

While the incredible medical teams are doing everything they can to help Warren recover, the road ahead will be long and challenging for both Warren and his family.

To support Warren on his recovery journey, his close friend Harry has set up a crowdfunding page and committed to taking on the National Three Peaks Challenge in under 24 hours, climbing Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Snowdon to raise funds for Warren's ongoing care and rehabilitation.

This incredible challenge reflects the friendship, determination and support that surround Warren. Every step Harry takes will be for his friend as Warren faces the biggest challenge of his young life.

Funds raised will help support Warren's long-term recovery, including:

• Travel and accommodation costs for family members needing to stay close to medical facilities.
• Specialist rehabilitation and physiotherapy to give Warren the best possible chance of recovery.
• Supporting Warren's wellbeing throughout his recovery journey.

We are asking the entire rugby family and wider community to get behind Warren and Harry. Whether you can donate, share this post, or simply keep Warren and his family in your thoughts, every gesture of support will mean so much.

Rugby has always been about standing together when one of our own needs us most. Let's show Warren and his family the strength, compassion and unity that makes our rugby community so special.
