Match Report: Cup Fixture vs AFC Portchester
Our cup fixture against AFC Portchester proved to be a highly competitive and entertaining encounter, showcasing both the quality and resilience within our squad.
Portchester took an early lead, testing our organisation and composure from the outset. However, the response from the team was immediate and assured. We maintained our structure, moved the ball with confidence, and were rewarded when Fern converted an excellent free kick to bring the score level at 1–1.
Portchester regained the advantage before half-time, making it 2–1, but the team remained focused and disciplined. The second half saw a noticeable increase in intensity and cohesion. Our pressing improved, we controlled possession more effectively, and began creating sustained attacking opportunities.
Liv M equalised to make it 2–2 following a strong period of pressure, reflecting the determination shown across the pitch. Momentum continued to build, and Annie’s well-taken goal put us ahead 3–2 after a composed attacking move.
To their credit, AFC Portchester are a strong and organised side. In the final ten minutes they managed to find an equaliser, bringing the game to 3–3 at full time.
The tie was decided by penalties, where we were ultimately defeated 4–2. While the result was disappointing, the overall performance demonstrated the squad’s character, quality, and ability to compete at a high level.
There are many positives to take forward from this match. The work rate, teamwork, and resilience displayed throughout the game reflect the progress we are continuing to make as a group.
