‘Just show up mentality’ 🤨

Right , bit of a controversial one here… this is something I see a lot on socials , people putting a picture in the gym up and the caption ‘just show up’ so i understand this if your maybe just trying to get a little bit fitter , not really got many high expectations in the gym etc. but if you’re actually serious about making a change quickly and efficiently, in my opinion you can’t ‘just be showing up’ for half of your sessions.

Put it this way , let’s say you train 4 times a week for 1 hour , that’s 4 hours a week , out of 168 hours… for such a short amount of time , you really should be applying maximum effort in every session. (If you want results).

Instead of using ‘just show up’ start using ‘maximum effort’ 📈

Don’t give yourself an excuse before you’ve even stated your session , this is just setting yourself up for failure.

TRAINING ON HOLIDAY 🏝️

Something to keep in mind whilst being away is to not allow those habits that have been built whilst at home ,to go away completely. Obviously you want to enjoy yourself and relax , but there is nothing worse than coming back from a holiday of over eating , daily drinking and zero exercise and feeling like you’re starting from stage 1 all over again . My advice would be to take advantage of your surroundings , a session in the sun will get much more of a sweat on and burn a lot more calories than being at home.

Make your sessions manageable and achievable , 45 minutes / 1 hour sessions. Training at high intensity. Trust me you will feel better for it.

Another issue can be lack of equipment , train at high volume utilising drop sets , super sets , pause reps and tri sets. Swimming is another great way to get some exercise in whilst being away.

Set yourself challenges , 100 reps a day of 1 exercise is something that I think works very well , 100 press ups , squats , sit ups , whatever you feel you may be lacking or want to improve. This will literally take you 10 minutes over a certain amount of sets. Easy.

Also do not over eat at every meal . Most holiday resorts offer a large selection of fruit , rice dishes and lean meats , utilise this and don’t just go for pizza , chips and eat cake after every meal 😂 I know this is quite difficult , but just try and cut down where possible. 🍰

‘I’ll start Monday’ mentality. 😴👎🏼

Something I hear a lot from people who want to get into better shape , or have goals they want to achieve within the gym , is ‘I’ll start Monday’ or ‘I’ll start in a few weeks’ , this is something that will not only hold you back from achieving your fitness goals , but will hold you back in life. So many times I’ve heard ‘I’ll start next week’ next week comes and again it’s the same ‘I’ll just start next week’ and so on and so on.

This is something that comes into play at the this time of the year aswell, with the classic ‘I’ll start in January’ , why? Why not get ahead of the pack and make yourself feel better now and give yourself a sense of discipline and achievement by getting closer to your goals as soon as possible .No one is saying you have to start training every day for 2 hours , eat clean every meal and miss out on food and drink at Christmas time , just start making small changes to create habits for the new year.

The weight loss secret! ⚖️

To be honest , weight loss is the simplest and easiest form of training , and achievable goal.

In order to lose weight you must be in a calorie deficit. What does this mean? This means burning more calories than you consume within the day , this way you will lose weight , the bigger the gap between calories burnt and calories consumed , the more chance you will have of losing more weight faster.

The way you loose the weight all depends on your deadline day , in my experience a good healthy 8/10 kg can be lost over 10 weeks , if given a proper training plan and diet plan. Usually for my clients the first week you get a lot of moaning and frustration , but if you can get through that first week and change those small eating habits , it’s very easy from that point forward.

It’s all about making small sacrifices that will eventually be very beneficial in the future for not only weight loss , but your general health. It’s all about controlling those food cravings and finding a way to still treat yourself whilst being in a calorie deficit

MOTIVATION TO TRAIN. (Read below 👇🏻)

Something I get asked a lot , is how do you stay motivated to train?

First of all ,and most importantly , you’ve got to make sure you’re actually trying to better yourself because you want too , a lot of people don’t realise that they aren’t actually doing this because they want too , but because they feel they have too , motivation isn’t something you can just get over night , you have to want to achieve the goal first , in order to achieve the goal.

Now , if you are motivated but sometimes might feel low energy or lack of enthusiasm, here are somethings that have worked for me and my clients to stay consistent and stay motivated.

1 . Cold showers. 🚿 🥶 / by far the best thing for productivity and mental health , a 2-3 minute cold shower a day , will not only give you amazing health benefits , but will give you lots of energy , and a huge rush of endorphins. This is something I do every day in order to stay energised and keep a clear mind.

2 . Sleep 😴 / a lot of people I speak to who are struggling to stay motivated , will tell me there getting below 7 hours sleep a night , if you’re trying to train , work , and live you’re life , you have to give you’re body enough time to recover , for me you have to be getting 7 or more hours in order to maintain a healthy lifestyle and give your body enough time to recover.

3 . Training type 🏋️‍♂️ / something people don’t realise is that weight training isn’t for everybody. If you don’t actually enjoy the training you’re doing , then you won’t be able to excel and achieve those goals as efficiently as you could be. Giving yourself different methods of training throughout the week , such as swimming , boxing , running etc , may be what you need to enjoy your training , doing a preferred training method maybe 3 times a week then a weight session once a week , may be the way you hit your goals , don’t be afraid to ask a coach for a preferred method of training.
