Alresford Mobile Cycle Repairs

Alresford Mobile Cycle Repairs I have retired. I post a lot of relevant stuff. I may organise events and sell refurbished bikes. Does your cycle need some attention? Parts may be required.

I have no experience of their services but I suggest Hampshire Cycles at New Alresford Market most Thursdays and Cottage Cycles, Headbourne Worthy to you. Would you like someone to call round and give you an assessment of what is required and the costs? Basic adjustments can be made on the spot. As much work as possible will be done on the spot and put you back on the road quickly.

BBC News BBC Radio 4 one of your first items on the news this morning was about a mayor in Italy banning e-bikes because he was knocked down by one. My guess is it was an illegal ridden e-motorbike requiring a driving license, VED registration (aka Road Tax), motorcycle helmet and possibly L plates.

It was not an e-bike aka Pedelec or EPAC which are ridden sensibly and legally by at least a million people in Europe and the UK. These bikes provide not assistance above 15.5mph and require you to be pedalling to get motor assistance. Some do have throttles but this is only for startup assistance up to 3mph.

Please use the correct descriptions in your e-bike and e-motorbike news items.

All of these e-bike headlines are actually e-motorbikes! Please edit them.

E-bike users are mostly ex-cyclists who no longer have the oomph to get up hills or they are commuters, shoppers or going to a pub or cafe without turning up sweaty and smelly, and wearing normal clothing.

E-motorbike riders are 95% plus riding illegally and 25% of them use them for robberies and other criminal activities. Many are riding for delivery companies on the cheap.

Celebrating my 11th year on Facebook.

Was it really 11 years ago I set up a stall at the market?

Hope your bikes are still going strong.

And my retirement posts are giving you ideas about how to make cycling more accessible and safe for all those who could, can and do cycle.

📣 Event Announcement: The History of Cycling with the Veteran-Cycle Club 📣

WHAT: A display of historical cycling, from the Victorians through to the late 1930s!
WHEN: Friday the 28th of August, 2026
WHERE: The Square, Wi******er, SO23 9ES - just outside the front of the museum!

Did you know that Wi******er was once home to a famous cyclist? This year is the 160th anniversary of the birth of Frederick 'Dickie' Frost, a Wi******er resident and champion cyclist of the 1890s. At the height of his career, he had won practically all of the trophies offered in this country for cycle racing. Born in Wi******er, he lived at No. 15 The Square, where The London Camera Exchange is today.

On Friday the 28th of August, join the Veteran-Cycle Club outside Wi******er City Museum to celebrate this anniversary year. This group of vintage bike enthusiasts was founded on the 25th of June, 1955, to promote the riding and conservation of older cycles as well as the study of cycles and cycling history. Come along to discover historic bicycles from the Victorian period through to the late 1930s on display in The Square!

Display Highlights:

🚲Bicycles from across Dickie Frost’s lifetime, charting the evolution of cycle design from the late Victorian era to 1939.

🏁Machines similar to those that Frost would have raced will be on display.

🏛️Wi******er City Museum’s Dickie Frost display and 'Penny Farthing' bike (viewable with an admission ticket).

🚵Veteran-Cycle Club members will be demonstrating how these historic bicycles are ridden, maintained, and raced.

Wonder what you might be able to buy at the cycle jumble on the 26th September?

“Absolutely anything to do with bicycles.” is the simple answer. The other one is “You will only find out by coming on the day.”. However one seller has shown me some of his stock:
