A message from Reg Coopers family:

To all at Netherton Cricket Club, my family and I want to thank you all for the support and lovely messages in memory of our dear Uncle Reg.

The cricket club was the perfect venue to hold the celebration of his life. We all understand why this club was so close to uncle’s heart.

Thank you to all who came to show their respects and to everyone who donated to Uncle’s chosen charity, Summer Iris Foundation. Summer was very dear to uncle, he loved her as he does all the children. He would be so pleased to have raised the amazing amount of £561.60.

Thank you again to all at Netherton Cricket Club. Wishing continued success for years to come.

MESSAGE FOR ALL MEMBERS FROM THE FAMILY OF REG:

On behalf of my family and me, I would like to thank everyone for the lovely messages written on the Netherton Cricket Club page in memory of our uncle Reg Cooper. The messages have been heartwarming in a time of grief for my family. Uncle Reg was a big part of our family and will leave a huge hole in our hearts and lives. Uncle Reg’s funeral will take place on Friday 27th February. Uncle will be going home for 1pm where we will have prayers in his home. We will arrive at St Andrews Church for 1.45pm where a service to celebrate his life will be held. We are taking Uncle Reg to Gornal Crematorium for 2.50pm where the committal service will take place. This will be followed by a gathering at Netherton Cricket Club, the place where Uncle spent many a happy times. We are planning to raise a glass for Uncle at 5pm.

Uncle Reg’s wishes are that there are no flowers. He did however ask for donations to be made to the “Summer Iris Foundation” which is a personal family charity where we raise money for the bereavement services at Birmingham children’s hospital.

We warmly welcome anyone who would like to help us celebrate the life of our dear Uncle, the cricket club will be open to all who wish to join us and raise a glass in his memory.

With love Maureen and Family.

We are extremely saddened to inform everyone that our very own Reg Cooper passed away peacefully in his sleep overnight, aged 94.

Reg was a lovely man, and a legend at Netherton Cricket Club, joining in 1963. During his 60 plus years as a member, he has served virtually every major role within the Club. During his playing days, he would frequently open the batting and bowling and still have time to run off the field to prepare the tea. Over the last few months he could still have been found winning games of crib and drinking a pint or two of mild at the club. Loved by all at the club he was a forever present in all club events and functions, signifying his dedication to Netherton Cricket Club. He was also a very popular figure throughout the local community, known by most as “Uncle Reg”. A true one of a kind gentleman.

The club will forever be indebted to all the work Reg has done throughout his life to turn the club into what it is today. Whilst the club will never truly be the same without Reg there will be memories of him in every corner that will last forever.

In 2023 we celebrated Reg’s 60th year with a testimonial match to him. From that day onwards the bar at the clubhouse was renamed to the Reg Cooper bar as tribute to the many years of service Reg provided.

If anyone would like to get in touch to provide tributes or tell a tale about Reg we would appreciate everything anyone would like to contribute. We will be posting further tributes to Reg and will update with any funeral details once we know more.

All of our thoughts are with Reg’s family at this time.

RIP Reg
