That’s a wrap for the 2025 Armed Forces Parachute Championships and what a week it’s been!

Congratulations to our Junior Accuracy team, The Black Swans, representing and taking Gold 🥇 in the team event.

Well done to Bdr King who won Silver and SSgt Salts who won Bronze, both in Junior Accuracy.

In a new event for the team Butterfly Effect won Bronze in Freestyle B, made up of Sgt Williams and camera by Maj Rutherford.

An incredible week for the team - we are very proud of you all! Thank you, as always, to for putting on a fantastic competition and to the and for supporting us.

The skydiving season has well and truly started for some of our team members over the Bank Holiday weekend.

Maj Iain Rutherford spent the weekend with the amazing team at blowing away those camera cobwebs and preparing for a busy season competing ahead.

Skydiving is our passion but we have day jobs and that’s part of the reason we’ve been a bit quiet recently.

We’re a small team so we’re incredibly proud of the achievements of that team. Currently we have a slight overlap that sees 3 of our members serving at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst.

WO2 (CSM) Harris this year posted as the first Company Sergeant Major from the RA into RMAS.

SSgt Tungate this year completed the 4 week challenging Sandhurst Instructor Aptitude Course finishing 3rd overall and then being selected by an Army Personnel Centre board to come to RMAS as a SNCO Instructor.

Maj Rutherford departed the academy in August having served 2 years as a Company Commander.

These roles take significant commitment and so sadly our team members don’t get to fulfil their passion for skydiving as much as they would like. But the privilege that comes from training the next generation of Army Officers and representing the RA is absolutely worth it.

Pictured is WO2 (CSM) Harris and SSgt Tungate on Ex DYNAMIC VICTORY, the final exercise and the consolidation of a year of training for the OCdts. The CSM will have the honour of commissioning his Company this Friday.

Fancy something a little different from your day job?

Ever considered learning to skydive?

We might have just the thing!

The details:

A fantastic opportunity for Pte – Cpl* to be attached to Army Adventurous Training Air Wing (AATAW) Netheravon for 12 months from mid-Oct on TEE basis. No prior parachuting experience is necessary. AATAW are fully committed to investing in their TEE staff who will complete an Accelerated Free Fall (AFF) Course (civ cost over £2000) and receive a civilian qualification. TEE staff will generally complete between 150 – 200 freefall parachute descents (civ cost approx £5000) and if they work hard and are keen to progress, may also be loaded on a Basic Instructor’s Course. On completion of this course, they receive a civilian qualification and would RTU as a qualified parachute instructor.

In return the Wing will ensure that the individuals are well managed, maintaining close liaison with respective CoCs, and inviting key individuals to Netheravon to see the individuals at work and, weather permitting, to tandem jump with them. AATAW will also prioritise units that provide TEE for course places.

*Sgts will also be accepted on the understanding that they will be considered ‘junior staff’ working alongside JNCOs.

Day 2 at British Skydiving Nationals at Skydive Hibaldstow. We entered day two in fourth place with two rounds to complete. With one point between us and our nearest competitor we had two great rounds but Black Phoenix just pushed ahead putting us into fifth overall.

It’s been a great competition with some fab teams, and plenty to take away into next season for the RASPA team. Well done to all our competitors and our camera flyer.
